After the Capitalist Heiress Was Reborn, She Emptied the Family Fortune and Joined the Army Chapter 15

Chapter 15 – Three Ferry Tickets to Hong Kong

Tao Yingying walked in confidently and handed an envelope to the Red Armband personnel.

“Inside are the evidences showing their plan to flee with their family fortune.”

The Red Armband in charge of Sang Feiyu’s interrogation didn’t hesitate. He tore open the envelope on the spot. Inside were three ferry tickets to Hong Kong.

The dates on the tickets had already expired.

Zhao Hui had originally been preparing to tell everyone about her battlefield stories, but now she had no mood to continue.

Everyone turned in unison to look at Tao Yingying, seemingly expecting her to offer more useful information.

Just then, Director Li of the Revolutionary Committee walked out of his office and said, “Have Sang Feiyu come out and explain what these three ferry tickets are about.”

And just like that, Sang Feiyu was brought out. Facing the crowd’s suspicious stares, she looked calmly at the three expired tickets and said without a change in expression, “These don’t belong to me or my family.”

Tao Yingying sneered, “Still being stubborn when you’re at death’s door. What’s the point?”

Sang Feiyu looked steadily at her. “And how can you prove these three tickets belong to my family?”

Tao Yingying replied slowly, “Your family has three members—three tickets.”

Sang Feiyu almost laughed out of frustration. “There are plenty of families with three members. How exactly do you prove that these three tickets were ours?”

No matter what Tao Yingying said, Sang Feiyu continued to ask and emphasize the same thing:
How can you prove the ferry tickets belonged to them?

Tao Yingying was getting irritated from the repeated questioning and turned to Director Li. “Director Li, only she knows where the assets are hidden.”

“My second uncle never trusted my side of the family. He wouldn’t leave such things in our care.”

Director Li hadn’t even spoken yet when Zhao Hui interjected, “If anyone can bring in a few ferry tickets to frame others, then won’t everyone start doing that?”

Director Li originally intended to scold the person for speaking out of turn—Who gave you permission to talk?

But when he saw her worn, faded green military uniform and chest full of tightly clustered medals, the words died in his throat.

Clearly, whether or not he could afford to offend her, he had to show respect.

Without people like her—the soldiers—where would peace come from in this era?

Seeing the effect of her words, Zhao Hui added, “The Revolutionary Committee is a place of fairness and justice. Not somewhere for false accusations and wrongful framing.”

Even Sang Feiyu felt a little guilty hearing this, but she couldn’t help admiring her grandmother’s skill in handling the situation.

It seemed she had definitely backed the right person.

With her limited experience at under twenty years old, there was no way she could go head-to-head with these old foxes.

“You’re absolutely right, elder,” Director Li said, involuntarily straightening his back as he spoke.

Tao Yingying’s eyes widened. “Director Li, you can’t just believe her nonsense!”

“Sang Feiyu is her biological granddaughter—of course she’s going to protect her!”

Director Li’s face darkened like ink. “What’s the use of baseless accusations?”

“How do you prove these three ferry tickets were owned by Sang Feiyu’s family?”

Tao Yingying asserted, “There were three of them, and there are three tickets.”

“And the date is just a few days after my second uncle passed away. If he hadn’t died, they would’ve already escaped.”

Sang Feiyu shot back, “And where exactly did you find these tickets?”

Without waiting for a response, she continued, “Don’t tell me they were found at my house. That place was already turned over to the state. I believe the Revolutionary Committee thoroughly searched it. If the tickets were really there, with their capabilities, you think they wouldn’t have found them?

Director Li narrowed his eyes, his gaze toward Tao Yingying growing colder. “Exactly. Do you think my people are blind?”

“They couldn’t find just three ferry tickets?”

The dozen or so Red Armband members who’d searched the house rushed to chime in:

“We searched that house thoroughly, even uprooted the trees in the yard. We didn’t see any ferry tickets.”

“We flipped through every piece of furniture. No tickets.”

“But the place had clearly been searched before us. Aside from some bulky furniture, they had no usable daily items left.”

“We even compared the ropes in their basement to the marks on Comrade Sang’s wrists and ankles—they matched.”

“Could it be that you searched the Sang family house during the kidnapping, and that’s when you took these ferry tickets?”

Tao Yingying involuntarily shivered, her face pale. How did things turn out so differently than she expected?!

She had gone through so much effort to get those three tickets from Chairman Liu.

She had even offended him over it.

Chairman Liu had given them three large goldfish bars, and her mother had already delivered them to that man at the repair shop. They thought they could rescue her father and make Sang Feiyu pay with her life.

Now it seemed she herself was about to be punished.

No!

She couldn’t be arrested again!

Tao Yingying pulled herself together and pretended to remain calm. “Those three tickets were found by my father—he got them from her.”

“My father was furious about Second Uncle’s plan to flee with the fortune.”

Sorry, Dad.
Right now, sacrificing you is the only way I might get out of this safely.

Director Li questioned, “So what you’re saying is—you admit your family kidnapped Sang Feiyu?”

Tao Yingying took a deep breath. “I admit it.”

“I tried to talk my father out of it, but he wouldn’t listen. I couldn’t stop him.” She quickly distanced herself from her father.

“And what were you going to do with the ferry tickets you took off her?”

“Were you planning to flee with the stolen property?” Director Li pressed.

Tao Yingying panicked, “No!”

“Then why didn’t you turn in the evidence immediately?”

“Why wait until today?”

Tao Yingying choked—she didn’t know how to answer.

Director Li narrowed his eyes. “Dashou, go to the ferry company and check when these three tickets were purchased.”

“And try to find out who handled the transaction.”

“In the meantime, we’ll have to trouble Comrade Tao to stay with us a bit.”

Tao Yingying was nearly in tears.
How did she end up dragging herself down with it?!

Unlike her, Zhao Hui and Sang Feiyu were treated quite differently after Director Li received a phone call—he even had someone pour them a cup of tea.

“Please, make yourselves comfortable. We’ll talk again once our people finish investigating.”

Sang Feiyu exchanged a glance with her grandmother. Both began to feel more at ease.

The reason Sang Feiyu was certain those ferry tickets weren’t theirs was, first, the date was wrong. Their actual tickets were one day earlier.

Second, those tickets weren’t in their house—they were hidden by her father in the woods near the dock.
Their plan had always been to dig them up just before boarding, to avoid getting caught if the house was ever searched.

Thinking of that, Sang Feiyu couldn’t help but admire her father’s foresight.

Just then, two solemn-looking police officers in uniform walked in.

“Excuse me—who here is Sang Feiyu?”
