After the Capitalist Heiress Was Reborn, She Emptied the Family Fortune and Joined the Army Chapter 24

Chapter 24 – Tonight, I Am But a Legend

Jiang Zhou stared at the room number on the door for a while, confirming he was at the right place. Then, he pulled out a stick-like object, inserted it into the door crack, and blew a wisp of faint green smoke inside.

His darling Jingjing was still at home waiting for good news—he had to act quickly and efficiently!

After waiting at the door for a moment, he took out his lock-picking tools and easily opened Sang Feiyu’s door.

He glanced around, confirmed no one was nearby, and slipped into the room without hesitation, locking the door behind him.

When he shone his flashlight on Sang Feiyu’s delicate and beautiful face, he was instantly captivated.

A girl this beautiful and rich—who wouldn’t fall for her?

Of course, this didn’t change the place Jingjing still held in his heart. A man’s heart was big enough to hold a whole group of women!

Jiang Zhou suddenly changed his original plan. He tossed the sack aside and fumbled with his shirt buttons in excitement.

In his head, he chanted, “Beautiful girl, your big bro is here to pamper you!”

“Don’t miss me too much afterward. Tonight, I’m just a legend.”

Jiang Zhou quickly stripped himself completely and strutted toward the bed with a swagger, dancing joyfully. He reached out to remove Sang Feiyu’s clothes—

But suddenly, Sang Feiyu’s eyes flew open, a bloodthirsty smile on her lips. “Die, you piece of trash!”

“AHHH!”

“A ghost!”

Jiang Zhou was so terrified that he ran around the room in a frenzy. In his panic, he crashed headfirst into the door.

Sang Feiyu quickly entered her space, splashed water on her face, and checked the mirror to make sure she had wiped off the ghostly lipstick. Only then did she exit the space.

Time inside the space moved differently from the real world. Though Sang Feiyu had spent a while getting ready, to Jiang Zhou it was instantaneous—he hadn’t even had time to react before she returned.

Just then—BANG!—the door was violently kicked open by Ning Zhiyuan.

By pure coincidence, Jiang Zhou had been standing right behind the door. The impact slammed into his head so hard it felt like his skull cracked. He howled in pain.

Shock and agony flooded him all at once!

Next door, Zhao Hui and Sang Youde heard the commotion and rushed out. “What’s going on?!”

“This disgusting pervert tried to assault me in the middle of the night!” Sang Feiyu shouted.

Of course, she didn’t need to say much. Everyone could already guess what had happened just from Jiang Zhou’s naked body.

Clearly still traumatized by Sang Feiyu’s earlier disguise, Jiang Zhou clung to Ning Zhiyuan’s leg and screamed, “There’s a ghost!”

“She’s a ghost!”

“AHHH!”

Sang Feiyu tried not to laugh as she looked at her grandparents, who immediately understood what had happened—she must’ve used her space to disguise herself as a ghost and scared the man senseless.

They were baffled though—how did a guy with such a fragile heart dare break into a room and attempt assault in the middle of the night?

Ning Zhiyuan’s brow furrowed, and without a word, he flung Jiang Zhou off his leg. The next moment—THUD!—a loud crash echoed through the building.

By the time the dozing front desk staff rushed up, Jiang Zhou was already lying unconscious, barely breathing.

Worried this might affect Ning Zhiyuan’s future, Zhao Hui leaned down to check his breath. “He’s still alive, shouldn’t be a problem.”

Once the front desk staff got the full picture, they immediately reported it to the Public Security Bureau.

Sang Feiyu fetched a basin of cold water and splashed it right onto Jiang Zhou’s face!

The moment he opened his eyes and saw Sang Feiyu, he instantly recalled the terrifying ghostly version of her.

He let out a scream, “Ghost!!”
And fainted again on the spot.

Zhao Hui looked at him with disdain and muttered, “Not even as brave as a fly, and you dare come around doing evil?”

Sang Youde simply added, “They say humans can be scared to death by other humans—now I believe it.”

In the end, Jiang Zhou was taken away by the police, and Sang Feiyu and the others had to go to the station to give their statements.

“She… she’s a ghost!” Jiang Zhou shouted to the officer on duty.

Officer Ah Feng yawned, looked at Jiang Zhou’s swollen face, and said impatiently, “Ghost my foot!”

“This is feudal superstition—it must be eradicated!”

“And don’t think you can play dumb or act crazy to escape punishment. Be honest and get leniency, resist and face severe consequences. Now tell me—why were you sneaking into someone else’s room in the middle of the night?”

Jiang Zhou’s mind raced, and he quickly said, “I… I was dreaming, and when I woke up, I was already in her room!”

“Where I come from, we call that sleepwalking.”

Officer Ah Feng rolled his eyes. “Oh, so you wanna play like that?”

“Fine. I’ll play with you.”

Sure, they were used to being on night duty, but who actually wanted to be called out on a mission in the middle of the night?

If it weren’t for this guy, he’d still be off in dreamland!

With one hand, Ah Feng hoisted Jiang Zhou and dragged him into a side room. The door slammed shut—and soon after, sounds that were best left undescribed started echoing from inside.

As the saying goes: if one beating doesn’t work, give him two. Eventually, Jiang Zhou couldn’t take it anymore and confessed, “It was someone named Tao Jingjing! She told me to kidnap the girl.”

“She said we needed to pry open her mouth and get those assets to save her family.”

Ah Feng narrowed his eyes. “And kidnapping someone requires you to strip naked?”

Jiang Zhou, guilty and flustered, mumbled, “I… I just felt a little hot.”

Smack!

A loud slap snapped him back to his senses.

“I admit it! I was tempted by her looks—I was wrong!”

“I swear, I didn’t even touch a single hair on her head!”

“And she suddenly smiled like a ghost, with blood tears under her eyes—how would I even dare do anything to her?!”

“I didn’t die of fright—that’s just dumb luck!”

That part, at least, was the truth.

Meanwhile, Tao Jingjing had no idea that the man she loved had already sold her out. When the Public Security Bureau arrived to arrest her, she was still sound asleep.

“Who are you people?!”

No one bothered to answer. Ah Feng, still grumpy from lack of sleep, cuffed her without a word and dragged her off!

When Tao Jingjing finally saw Jiang Zhou at the station, she was livid.

“How could you betray me?!”

Jiang Zhou was full of regret too. “If I’d known this would happen, I never would’ve helped you get revenge!”

He’d been a small-time crook for years—petty thefts, minor cons—and had never been caught. Yet the first time he tried to help the woman he loved, he got arrested. It was the most humiliating moment of his life.

He wouldn’t be able to face his old crew ever again!

“You’re even dumber than me! Why would I ask someone as stupid as you to do anything?” Tao Jingjing shouted, fuming.

“I haven’t even come for revenge, and you’re blaming me?”

At that moment, Jiang Zhou suddenly found his beloved Jingjing not so lovable anymore.

Watching the two of them turn on each other like rabid dogs, Sang Feiyu felt immensely satisfied as she left with her family.

The sky hadn’t fully brightened yet, so they all returned to their rooms to catch up on sleep.

Feeling a little hungry, Sang Feiyu entered her space to find something to eat—only to discover her grandparents each holding a roast goose leg, lounging in imperial-style chairs, enjoying life to the fullest.

When Zhao Hui saw her, she handed over another leg. “Your grandpa bought these yesterday.”

“There’s also orange juice—want some?”

And so, the three of them sat there: a roast goose leg in one hand, a bottle of orange juice in the other, filling their bellies in pure satisfaction.

Sang Feiyu licked her lips after eating and sighed a little, “Too bad Ning Zhiyuan didn’t get to enjoy any of this.”

Since the space was something hard to explain, they had all agreed not to invite Ning Zhiyuan in for food.

What they didn’t know was… Ning Zhiyuan had already quietly slipped out—
