Chapter 8 – Tao Ronggui’s Disgrace

Sang Feiyu asked the nurse around for a while before confirming Tao Ronggui’s room.

She hurried upstairs, her footsteps rapid, her figure frantic. Just before entering the hospital room, she pinched herself hard—so hard it brought tears to her eyes.

“Ronggui!”

“Are you okay?”

She wailed the moment she entered, without even getting a clear look at the man.

Everyone in the room—patients and family alike—turned to look at her, their expressions varied.

Sang Feiyu didn’t care. She looked up and strode toward a man wrapped up like a mummy.

She had to hold back a laugh—Tao Ronggui, you finally got what you deserved!

Tao Ronggui clenched his teeth until they cracked, his hatred boiling over like a raging river, unstoppable.

Sang Feiyu sneered inwardly but looked utterly heartbroken on the outside. “Even though you and your family beat me, abused me, imprisoned me… for the one shred of conscience you showed by helping me escape, even if I still hold resentment, I had to come visit you.”

“I’m not an ungrateful snake like your family.”

The moment she said that, the room exploded with chatter.

Tao Ronggui’s eyes turned blood-red, his face twisted with fury—he was on the verge of being driven mad by Sang Feiyu.

He was about to open his mouth and argue when an elderly woman in the next bed asked curiously, “Young lady, what’s going on here?”

Sang Feiyu looked like she wanted to say something but didn’t dare, her face full of terror.

A man in the room spoke up, “Don’t worry, girl. With us here, he won’t lay a finger on you!”

Only then did Sang Feiyu cautiously speak. “He’s my cousin—my uncle’s son.”

“My uncle’s family were peasants from the countryside. They followed my grandparents to Yangcheng to rely on us.”

“My mother couldn’t stand their vile habits, so she moved us out. But they kept occupying our house.”

At that, everyone in the room began to relate a little.

Who hadn’t had poor rural relatives come mooching off them?

Sure, not all people from the countryside were like that—but the ones who came to mooch usually were.

Tao Ronggui finally snapped. “That’s our home!”

“You’re just a girl. Once you marry, you’re not even part of the family anymore!”

The old woman couldn’t help but spit at him. “Pah!”

“Even if she dies, that house still wouldn’t be yours!”

“If you ask me, your family should’ve been kicked out long ago. Otherwise, you’ll just end up being driven to an early grave by them.”

Sang Feiyu sniffled and continued, “It’s too late now.”

“Boohoo…”

As she cried, her tears were real—drawing even more attention from people nearby.

This scene—one man silent, one woman crying—was too striking.

The elderly lady asked urgently, “Too late for what?”

Sang Feiyu didn’t hide anything. “They caused the car accident that killed my parents!”

“They even tried to kill me, so they could inherit everything!”

The whole room gasped. The old woman dropped her enamel teacup with a crisp clink, but no one looked—it was all eyes on the man wrapped like a dumpling.

If looks could kill, Tao Ronggui would already be a pile of sashimi.

He roared, “You’re talking nonsense!”

If his arms and legs weren’t broken, he would’ve stuffed a sock in Sang Feiyu’s mouth himself!

The man from before clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles turned white. “That family is sick beyond saving!”

His father growled lowly, “Heaven will take care of them.”

The others in the room also began pointing and whispering at Tao Ronggui.

Hearing everyone gossip about him, Tao Ronggui mentally collapsed. He completely broke down.

How was he supposed to face anyone ever again?

He’d thought that by letting Sang Feiyu go, he’d be rewarded with a massive inheritance, his aunt’s favor, his mother’s affection, and his older brother’s admiration. He imagined the entire family would one day have to grovel before him—whether he wanted to take them to the “beautiful country” or leave them to rot would be up to him.

But reality had slapped him hard across the face. All those dreams—shattered.

Facing Tao Ronggui’s venomous glare, Sang Feiyu shrank back slightly and casually rolled up her sleeve, revealing her scar-riddled arm.

She didn’t need to say a word—someone else shouted for her:

“Oh heavens!”

“Girl, what happened to your arm?!”

“There’s not a single uninjured spot on it!”

Everyone now clearly understood—this girl had truly suffered inhuman abuse.

“Young lady, do you need help?”

“I have relatives in the Public Security Bureau!” the man in the room added.

Sang Feiyu shook her head. “The Red Armbands already arrested my uncle’s family.”

“It’s just… my cousin is still on the loose.”

“He’s violent and vicious. I’m afraid he’ll retaliate against society in a fit of rage.”

The man immediately asked, “What’s his name?”

“Tao Ronghua.”

“I got it. I’ll call my relative tonight. We’ll make sure he’s caught as soon as possible.”

Sang Feiyu thought to herself: with the Revolutionary Committee and Public Security involved, even if Tao Ronghua fled to the ends of the earth, he’d still be dragged back.

And as a fugitive, his crimes would only multiply!

“Big brother, thank you.”

“I will never forget your great kindness.”

Everyone who helped her—she would repay them one day if given the chance.

“No need to thank me. It’s just a phone call.”

“I just can’t stand filthy scum like him!”

That filthy scum—Tao Ronggui—was practically bursting with rage, but he couldn’t argue back.

Sang Feiyu, seeing Tao Ronggui utterly disgraced, left the hospital satisfied.

Revolutionary Committee Interrogation Room

Tao Jiaxing had just been through brutal torture. His clothes were fused to his torn flesh, making it impossible to tell where skin ended and blood began.

If Sang Feiyu saw him in this state, she wouldn’t even bother to raise an eyebrow.

He was merely getting a taste of what she had suffered in her previous life.

“Where exactly did you hide the assets?” the interrogator snapped, clearly losing patience.

They’d been beating him for over half an hour. Why was his mouth still so tight?

What they didn’t know was—Tao Jiaxing really didn’t know.

If he had known, he would’ve confessed in under ten minutes—anything to lessen the beatings.

Biting his lip in agony, Tao Jiaxing finally squeezed out, “Only Sang Feiyu knows where my brother’s assets are hidden!”

The Red Armband officer’s face darkened like the bottom of a burnt pot. “You’re still trying to pin this on that young comrade?!”

It had been his wife who examined Sang Feiyu’s injuries, and she’d said the girl’s body was so bruised she couldn’t bear to look.

If Sang Feiyu were her daughter, she’d fight those bastards to the death!

He was a father himself, which made it hit harder. Right now, when he looked at Tao Jiaxing, he could hardly see him as human.

He raised his whip in a fury—but just before it came down, a piercing scream tore through the room—!
