Chapter 120: Are You Two Dating?
The group walked through the lush peach forest and came to a corner of the ancient house.
Looking up, the ancient and heavy outer walls stretched as far as the eye could see, each brick and tile exuding a sense of timelessness, as if telling the stories of the years they had witnessed together.
Stepping through the gate, they entered a spacious courtyard paved with blue bricks. On either side were artificial hills and trees of varying heights. Surrounding the courtyard were covered walkways, and through the carved and hollowed windows, they could see lush greenery and picturesque scenery.
The group passed through the outer courtyard and walked a little further before reaching another open courtyard.
On one side of the courtyard were flowerbeds of various colors, and on the other stood a grape arbor. It was the season for grapes to ripen, and clusters of red and purple grapes, like tiny jewels, hung among the lush leaves, inviting admiration.
Under the grape arbor were placed exquisite rattan tables and chairs. Su Yiren’s gaze was immediately drawn to the white-haired old woman sitting in a rattan chair.
The old woman was dressed in plain clothes. Hearing the sound of footsteps, she turned her head towards them subconsciously and sighed,
“Afeng, hasn’t my granddaughter arrived yet?”
Su Yiren glanced at Chu Yufeng, who nodded at her.
“This is your grandmother.” He said, then pulled Su Yiren’s hand and walked to the old woman, saying respectfully,
“Mom, Yiren is here.”
Chen Wanning looked in the direction of the voice, stretched out her hand, and her voice trembled slightly.
“Yiren?”
Su Yiren watched as the hand reached out to the side, subconsciously grasped it, and looked at Chu Yufeng in surprise.
Chu Yufeng lowered his eyes and said softly,
“Your grandmother is blind.”
Su Yiren’s heart skipped a beat. She stepped forward and squatted in front of Chen Wanning, calling out sweetly,
“Grandma, I’m Yiren.”
Chen Wanning smiled and nodded. Her cloudy eyes had long lost their color, but her expression was joyful.
“Good child, good child, let me touch your face.”
Su Yiren placed her hand on her face, and Chen Wanning gently stroked from her forehead to her cheeks and then to her jawline, tears streaming down her face involuntarily.
“You look so much like your mother…”
Her words made Su Yiren’s nose tingle, and she also shed tears. The grandmother and granddaughter cried together as soon as they met.
The several big men behind them, seeing this scene, also felt a bit of heat in their eyes.
Chu Yuheng stepped forward and persuaded,
“Mom, you’re not well. The doctor said you shouldn’t get too emotional.”
Su Yiren quickly took out a tissue and wiped away Chen Wanning’s tears.
“It’s all my fault. I made Grandma sad.”
Chen Wanning shook her head repeatedly.
“It’s not your fault, it’s all my fault. If I hadn’t been so stubborn back then, how could your mother…”
“Mom, let’s not talk about the past. Yiren has brought her friends back to see you. Let’s all be happy.” Chu Yufeng suppressed the sourness in his eyes and comforted her.
Su Yiren turned around and called Si Hong over, then said to Chen Wanning,
“Grandma, this is my friend, Si Hong.”
Si Hong walked forward, squatted in front of Chen Wanning like Su Yiren, and politely called out, “Grandma.”
Chen Wanning readily agreed, her smile deepening.
“You can tell he has a good temperament just by his voice.”
She reached out her hand to Si Hong, and Si Hong immediately grasped his grandmother’s hand, feeling a little surprised.
But the grandmother’s next action surprised him even more. She actually put their two hands together, gently patted them, and asked with a loving smile,
“Are you two dating?”
Su Yiren’s face flushed, and she quickly explained,
“No, no, he’s just my good friend.” She then quickly looked at Si Hong, using her eyes to signal him to explain as well.
But Si Hong ignored her hint and instead smiled at his grandmother and said,
“Grandma, how could I be so lucky!”
“Everyone has their own good fortune.” Chen Wanning smiled kindly. Although she didn’t say anything more, she didn’t separate their two hands.
The group entered the main house, and Su Yiren helped Chen Wanning sit on a soft chair and placed a cushion behind her waist.
“Grandma, Uncle, how did you find me?” Su Yiren had been so stunned when she saw Chu Yufeng that day that she completely forgot to ask this question.
Chu Yufeng replied, “A while ago, one of my students wrote a thesis that mentioned several well-known domestic designers and included several photos, including yours.”
Third Uncle Chu Yuheng interjected,
“You and your mother look almost exactly alike when you were young, so Second Brother went to Rongcheng to find you and wanted to confirm it in person.”
Chu Yufeng nodded. “But this matter shouldn’t be publicized. What if it wasn’t you? It would be bad for you. So I waited at your company for a few days, wanting to confirm it with you personally.”
Through the conversation, Su Yiren learned that the Chu family was a scholarly family, and her grandfather was also a master of calligraphy and painting, who had served as the president of the National Calligraphy and Painting Association.
His calligraphy was elegant and flowing, ancient yet beautiful; his paintings were lively and natural, with bold and magnificent brushstrokes, and he was renowned both domestically and internationally.
But he was a low-key person. He had many works, but he didn’t profit from them, truly a “rare word.”
Su Yiren finally understood where her mother’s beautiful handwriting came from and also understood who her painting talent was inherited from.
Her several uncles were also exceptional talents.
First Uncle Chu Yubai was an engineer who often stayed in the most difficult places, building bridges and roads, and he didn’t return home once a year.
Second Uncle Chu Yufeng was an economics professor who taught at a famous university in Jiangcheng and had many students.
Third Uncle Chu Yuheng followed in his father’s footsteps and is currently the director of the National Institute of Literature and has a high level of calligraphy and painting skills.
The youngest uncle’s profession was the most “unprofessional” in the eyes of his parents: a photographer.
But even though he was constantly “disliked” by his parents, the youngest uncle was doing very well in the photography world. He is currently a travel photographer and his whereabouts are uncertain.
After listening to everyone’s stories, Su Yiren also told everyone about her family’s affairs over the years, in more detail than what she told Chu Yufeng that day.
But as she spoke, Su Yiren discovered a problem: she had a blank in her memory for several months.
She had no memory of what happened during that time. She only knew that she had a car accident, and when she woke up, her whole body was wrapped in bandages. After recovering, she returned to China with her parents.
At that time, her grandfather’s health was declining, and her father returned to China to take over the Su Corporation.
But not long after, her parents had an accident, a shipwreck, and their bodies were never found.
Su Yiren blinked in confusion. She had asked why she had a car accident at the time, but her parents only said it was because a truck was driving in the wrong lane and hit her car.
Su Yiren had never doubted anything, but at this moment, she actually felt that something was fishy.
So, while the others were chatting, Su Yiren leaned closer to Si Hong and asked him in a low voice,
“Do you remember the car accident I had before?”
Si Hong quickly glanced at her. “Of course I remember.”
Su Yiren lowered her voice and asked, “What was the real reason for the car accident?”
