Chapter 30: The Calm Before the Storm
She had just married Lu Yunting, feeling that fate had finally favored her, pulling her into happiness and giving her a home.
She had also finally come to terms with her parents’ passing, wanting to live bravely.
Art is born from the heart.
She painted that sunflower during that time.
Large swathes of yellow blossoms bloomed in a riot of color, their vibrant hues eclipsing the sky.
But this painting was not public, only her teacher and Chi Muyang had seen it.
But her teacher said: If one day, you want to display it, it will surely cause a sensation in the professional field.
At the time, she didn’t want to go public, nor did she want to chase fame and fortune, she just wanted to quietly immerse herself in her own world, painting everything she loved.
However, even the most vibrant colors will fade with time.
A painting is like that, and so is love.
It’s better to let this sunflower see the sunlight while it’s still blooming.
Su Yiren remained silent for a moment before nodding under Chi Muyang’s expectant gaze.
“It can only be exhibited, not sold.”
“Of course! How could it be sold without your signature!” Chi Muyang was as happy as a child,
“I can imagine how sensational it will be!”
Su Yiren curled her lips, not really caring.
“The painting is still at home, I’ll have it sent over tomorrow.”
Before she could finish, her phone rang.
Just as a staff member came over to look for Chi Muyang, Su Yiren walked aside to answer the call.
“Where are you?” Lu Yunting rarely called her, but his tone lacked any emotion.
“Out.”
“Where’s out?”
Su Yiren paused for a moment, replying rather rudely,
“That’s none of your business.”
The other end of the line fell silent. Su Yiren moved her phone away to check and found that the call duration was still running, he hadn’t hung up.
Just as she found it strange, Lu Yunting said:
“We’re not divorced yet, how can it not be my business?”
Su Yiren was displeased, “You’re twisting the meaning.”
She was bristling with anger, ready to argue with Lu Yunting, but he lightly threw back a sentence:
“Is your stomach still upset?”
It was like a casual question, his voice flat, without much emotion.
But Su Yiren was taken aback.
She subconsciously glanced out the window, the sun was setting, about to disappear.
Nothing out of the ordinary.
Why was he acting so strange?
She didn’t answer, Lu Yunting asked again,
“Still uncomfortable?”
“Oh, no,” Su Yiren looked at the fiery red sunset outside, replying awkwardly:
“Much better.”
“Hmm,” Lu Yunting pondered for a moment, his tone slightly smug,
“My treatment definitely works.”
Su Yiren rolled her eyes, she had never seen anyone so narcissistic.
She actually wanted to ask Lu Yunting why he knew acupuncture, when did he learn it, but the words died on her lips.
Even if she asked, he wouldn’t answer, maybe even sneer at her, why bother?
“Did you call for something?” Su Yiren asked calmly.
“Nothing.”
Lu Yunting didn’t actually know why he called, but after finishing work just now, her pitiful image from last night, curled up in a ball, suddenly flashed in his mind, and he impulsively picked up his phone.
“I actually wanted to ask how the dress is.” He found a random excuse.
Mentioning that disastrously designed gown, Su Yiren raised her eyebrows, vaguely replying:
“It’s okay.”
Lu Yunting really didn’t know what to say next, he glanced at the itinerary Zhou Tong had just handed him, and said:
“I have an engagement tonight, I won’t be back for dinner, tell Mom.”
Su Yiren was surprised, ending the call, she double-checked the number that just called, it was indeed Lu Yunting’s.
What was he suddenly up to?
Not only did he call to inquire about her health, but he also knew to report his schedule?
The sun must have come up from the west.
She suspected that Lu Yunting was in a good mood today, or maybe there was a new project at the company, he was happy, so he called her.
“Senior Sister!” Chi Muyang ran over from a distance, interrupting Su Yiren’s thoughts.
Seeing his sweaty face, Su Yiren took out a tissue to wipe it for him,
“Why are you so tired, where did you go?”
Chi Muyang mysteriously took out a cup of milk tea from behind him, his eyes sparkling with stars,
“I heard there’s a particularly good milk tea shop nearby, I just ran out to get it.”
Su Yiren suddenly smiled, taking the milk tea and thanking him.
“It’s been so long since I had milk tea.”
She remembered the last time she had milk tea, it was a long time ago when she went shopping with friends.
She usually just drinks water or various types of tea.
Even her friends joked that she was already entering retirement mode.
Actually, she just didn’t put her mind to eating and drinking.
Being alone, she also didn’t bother, she just made do.
“But I don’t know what’s good to eat in this Jiangcheng.”
Chi Muyang deliberately said pitifully:
“I haven’t had a good meal since I came back, Senior Sister, you have to take me!”
Su Yiren smiled helplessly, “Okay, what do you want to eat?”
“I want to eat… the most expensive thing in all of Jiangcheng!”
Su Yiren raised her eyebrows, “You’re really not polite.”
“Who told you to be rich,” Chi Muyang said mysteriously with a smile:
“I know how much your last painting sold for, Amy told me secretly.”
Su Yiren tapped his head, “I’ve decided to fire Amy.”
“Ah, no!”
—
Su Yiren didn’t take Chi Muyang to the most expensive hotel in Jiangcheng.
After all, those hotels mostly sell service, the food is actually mediocre.
But she also chose a good restaurant, the dishes were exquisite and delicious.
Chi Muyang parked the car in the parking space in front of the restaurant, opened the back door, and extended his hand in a gentlemanly manner.
“Get out, my princess.”
Seeing him smiling from ear to ear, looking like a mischievous child, Su Yiren smiled helplessly, swatting away his hand reaching towards her,
“Don’t be silly.”
Chi Muyang laughed loudly, like a big dog, sticking to her as they entered the restaurant.
The two chatted softly as they walked, looking very intimate.
The sky had darkened, Su Yiren didn’t notice a black car parked in the parking space opposite them, the scene that just happened was also clearly seen by the person in the car.
A few minutes ago, Zhou Tong had just parked the car, Lu Yunting answered a call.
He simply waited a little longer in the car, but he didn’t expect to see this unexpected scene.
He blinked in disbelief, took another look at the woman’s back, and finally confirmed one hundred percent that the woman was Su Yiren, his boss’s wife.
Zhou Tong slowly took a breath, his heart pounding.
His gaze slowly shifted to the rearview mirror, discovering that Lu Yunting, sitting in the back, was looking at the restaurant entrance expressionlessly, his lips tightly pressed together, his eyes quiet and deep.
The calm before the storm.
