Chapter 58: Please Stop Talking
One sentence made Ouyang Shasha both embarrassed and angry, but she couldn’t retort another word, otherwise she would be labeled as “unable to speak.”
She glared at Chi Muyang with a defiant look, her eyes almost piercing holes in him!
But as she looked at him closely, she found the young man to be vaguely familiar, but she couldn’t remember where she had seen him.
Chi Muyang walked to the painting, pretending to examine it carefully. Then he turned around and smiled at Jiang Jinyun, saying:
“Madam, you can call the police.”
The people present were in an uproar.
“Is it really fake?”
“He just took a few glances and said it’s fake, he’s too confident, isn’t he?”
“Yeah, how can you be so sure?”
Although a few people had said similar things before, their reactions weren’t as intense.
It was no wonder. The young man in front of them was just a boy in his early twenties. He just casually took a few glances and could determine whether a painting was real or fake. Everyone was indeed doubtful.
Seeing someone voicing dissent, Ouyang Shasha joined in, saying:
“Are you really a professional appraiser? Do you have any credentials? Why should we believe you?”
Chi Muyang turned to face Ouyang Shasha, his eyes curved into a smile, but his laughter held arrogance and sharpness.
A face flashed through Ouyang Shasha’s mind, and she suddenly realized:
“You’re the one who had dinner with Su Yiren that day!”
She finally remembered! The person she saw at the restaurant that day was him!
No wonder he was helping Su Yiren!
It turned out they were already in cahoots!
She hurriedly tugged at Lu Yunting’s sleeve,
“A 霆!Do you remember this person? When we went to the restaurant that day, we bumped into him and Su Yiren…” Her voice trailed off because she noticed that Lu Yunting was looking at her with a cold, icy gaze.
Her head buzzed. She realized she had said the wrong thing.
In this situation, surrounded by well-known figures in Jiangcheng, she actually said that the young mistress of the Lu family was on a date with another man, and she and Lu Yunting had seen them together. This kind of scandal would spread throughout the Jiangcheng upper circle tomorrow!
“I, I didn’t mean anything…” Ouyang Shasha tried to correct herself, but it was too late. She stammered a few words, but found Lu Yunting’s gaze even colder.
“Heh…” Someone chuckled, prompting everyone to look at him.
Chi Muyang stood there, his hand in his pocket, like a noble young master, looking at Ouyang Shasha with a smirk,
“What did I just say? A beautiful woman who can’t talk is really annoying.”
“You!” Ouyang Shasha was furious. The anger she had just suppressed was rekindled,
“He’s just speaking up for Su Yiren! Don’t be fooled by him!”
“Miss Ouyang,” Jiang Jinyun, who had been silent, suddenly spoke, her voice filled with authority and displeasure,
“Please stop talking.”
“Mother! I…” Ouyang Shasha wanted to say something, but she received a cold look from Jiang Jinyun and stopped her noise.
“Oh, why can’t she speak?” A lady smiled and walked up to Ouyang Shasha,
“I’ve known Shasha since she was a child. She’s always been gentle and sensible. If she can say these things today, it’s for the good of your Lu family.”
Su Yiren looked up at her and sneered in her heart.
This woman was a good friend of Ouyang Shasha’s mother, Mrs. Wang of Rentai Pharmaceuticals.
Since she married Lu Yunting,Mrs. Wang had never looked at her favorably. Every time she attended an event, she had been sarcastic towards her.
Jiang Jinyun didn’t take it seriously. She raised an eyebrow and smiled,
“Mrs. Wang, where did you hear that? These are all Lu family matters. It’s really inappropriate for her, an outsider, to always target my daughter-in-law. Yiren has been a good wife to the Lu family for so many years, she’s always been well-behaved and considerate. But now she’s been slandered by Miss Ouyang, first saying she’s entangled with Mr. Sheng, and then saying she’s secretly dating this young man. Is this for the good of my Lu family?”
“Where did I say she’s entangled with him?” Seeing Mrs. Wang speak up for her, Ouyang Shasha immediately became emboldened and dared to retort,
“I just said they had dinner together.”
“Oh, so that’s not what you meant,” Jiang Jinyun casually glanced at her,
“That’s good.”
Then she swept her gaze over the crowd, her voice calm but commanding,
“As the daughter-in-law of the Lu family, I will not allow outsiders to bully me.”
Everyone fell silent.
Those who had been openly or secretly supporting Ouyang Shasha almost all shut their mouths.
How dare they provoke the Lu family? They had just been following Ouyang Shasha because Lu Yunting was backing her up, hoping to curry favor with him.
But when the Lu family matriarch spoke, they knew that no matter how powerful Lu Yunting was, he was no match for Jiang Jinyun.
Seeing the somewhat awkward atmosphere, Su Yiren had to laugh and say,
“Mom, most of the elders here have business dealings with our Lu family. They all treat me like their own child. How could anyone bully me? Don’t get angry over a few idle words. If you get sick because of this, I’ll really be a sinner for generations to come!”
Her words immediately appeased Jiang Jinyun. She sighed and said:
“You’re just too kind.”
Su Yiren smiled and reminded her:
“The most important thing right now is to deal with this painting.”
“Yes! Mrs. Lu, where did you get this painting?”
After seeing Jiang Jinyun’s attitude, the tone of the crowd immediately changed. They all asked her where she got the painting.
Jiang Jinyun glanced at Ouyang Shasha, whose face was pale, and then saw Lu Yunting shaking his head slightly at her. It seemed he didn’t want her to reveal the truth.
Jiang Jinyun felt annoyed, but she didn’t want to publicly mention the fact that Ouyang Shasha had gone to her house to deliver the painting. Rumors were dangerous. She didn’t want her son and daughter-in-law’s marriage to be ridiculed by outsiders and become the subject of their gossip.
After a moment of contemplation, Jiang Jinyun said in a calm voice:
“I will hand this painting over to the police later. It’s not convenient to disclose the details publicly. But everyone can rest assured that I, like all of you, will not tolerate piracy.”
Everyone applauded, praising Jiang Jinyun for her courage and sense of justice.
Su Yiren sighed in her heart.
She understood Jiang Jinyun’s actions, but she didn’t want to let this matter go easily.
Even if the police would later go to Ouyang Shasha to investigate, it would only be a private inquiry. Since she had publicly embarrassed her, she shouldn’t blame her for publicly humiliating her.
Ouyang Shasha had been jumping up and down for so long. If she didn’t give her a taste of her own medicine, she, Su Yiren, would be too pathetic.
The topic gradually shifted back to the sunflower. Suddenly, someone remembered something and asked:
“But… isn’t that the Lu family’s ancestral home in the painting? Wasn’t it said that only Lu family members can enter? How could Bu Yu paint this?”
