Chapter 98: I Don’t Want to Hurt You
Shen Tongyu took a shower and, as usual, snuggled into Su Yiren’s bed.
She often went to play with Su Yiren before, and if it was too late, she would just stay at the villa.
Anyway, Lu Yunting wasn’t home much, and she sometimes stayed for several days in a row.
Su Yiren turned off the lights and told Shen Tongyu a bedtime story.
Just after the beginning, Shen Tongyu said:
“I don’t like fairy tales anymore.”
Su Yiren laughed: “You were begging me to tell you one a while ago, how come you don’t like listening to them after summer vacation?”
The light from the nightlight fell on Shen Tongyu’s eyelashes, and the disappointment in her eyes was clearly visible.
“Fairy tales are all lies.”
Su Yiren pursed her lips, already guessing what the little girl was going to say next.
Sure enough, Shen Tongyu sighed,
“In fairy tales, handsome princes and beautiful princesses always end up together, but in reality, there aren’t many such happy endings.”
Su Yiren looked at the ceiling and answered in a soft voice:
“Yeah, in reality, everyone has their own helplessness.”
She suddenly felt it was inappropriate to talk about life and love with such a young girl.
But nowadays, kids mature early, even if you don’t say it, they will understand.
Shen Tongyu continued to mutter:
“I don’t have a happy family at all. My parents argue all the time, always threatening to get a divorce; my aunt is pregnant, but my uncle is still out there having a good time and doesn’t come home; I thought you and my uncle were a perfect match, you’ve been married for so many years, you’d definitely be together in the end, but I didn’t expect…”
Shen Tongyu originally intended to bring them together, but the more she spoke, the more heartbroken she became, and finally she sighed.
Su Yiren turned her head and rubbed her head,
“These are not things you should be thinking about.”
Shen Tongyu shook her head, “But I don’t understand! Why get married if you don’t like each other?”
Su Yiren said earnestly:
“Some people are in love when they get married, but after a long time, that feeling of love fades; or, maybe someone else outside makes them like them more, and then they want to pursue new happiness; there are also people who get married just for the sake of benefit, or because they are arranged by their parents and elders, two people bound together like this will never be happy, just like me and your uncle.”
Su Yiren paused and continued:
“If two people are not happy together, it’s better to separate early, so that both of them can find new happiness.”
“But you like my uncle very much, right? You told me before!”
Shen Tongyu turned over and lay beside Su Yiren,
“And my uncle is very good to you too!”
Su Yiren looked into her clear eyes and asked:
“What kind of ‘good’ do you think it is?”
Shen Tongyu rested her chin on her hand, thought for a moment, and answered:
“He gives you a lot of money; I remember when he came back from a business trip, he bought you jewelry and bags; he said you like quiet, and he didn’t allow me to come and bother you often; oh, once he even asked his assistant to buy you your favorite buns!”
The scenes she described flashed one by one in Su Yiren’s mind, some memories were fresh, while others were only blurred shadows.
Su Yiren took a slow breath and said softly:
“Xiao Yu, when you grow up and have a boy who truly loves you. You’ll find that your uncle’s ‘good’ to me isn’t really ‘good’ in the true sense.”
Shen Tongyu blinked, she was about to say something else, but saw that Su Yiren had closed her eyes, obviously not wanting to talk anymore.
She lay in bed and sighed softly.
Seeing her aunt’s appearance, she suddenly didn’t want to help them get together anymore.
Maybe, as her aunt said, sometimes, when two people separate, they might be happier?
—
The next day, Su Yiren woke up very early.
When she went downstairs after changing her clothes, she saw that Si Hong’s door was still closed, thinking that he was still asleep, she quietly went out.
She first ran a few laps around the sports field, then went to the equipment area to stretch.
The leisure and sports area of the community was very complete, with a tennis court next to the sports field.
Su Yiren had just finished stretching when she looked up and happened to see Lu Yunting walking out of the tennis court.
He was wearing black sweatpants, a gray T-shirt, and a large tennis bag on his shoulder.
He had obviously just finished exercising.
Su Yiren only glanced at him and then turned around to face him, pretending not to see him.
The footsteps behind her were getting closer and closer, and Su Yiren’s heart couldn’t help but rise.
She thought he would pass her by, but the footsteps stopped behind her.
“Su Yiren.” He called out her name.
Su Yiren pretended not to hear and continued to stretch.
Lu Yunting was helpless, he walked around to the front and stood opposite Su Yiren, his gaze shifted down, sweeping over her purple wrist, his eyes darkened slightly.
“Is your wrist okay?” he asked.
Su Yiren didn’t want to pay any attention to him, she retracted her long legs and was about to walk towards the villa.
Lu Yunting followed her for two steps and stopped her again.
Su Yiren was immediately anxious, she asked coldly,
“What else do you want to do?” She held out her other undamaged hand and waved it in front of him,
“Are you going to break this hand too?”
Lu Yunting frowned, although he was dissatisfied with her attitude, he also knew that he was at fault, so he could only apologize in a deep voice,
“I’m sorry, I was too impulsive last night. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Su Yiren snorted, she stepped aside,
“Then stop bothering me.”
Lu Yunting saw that she was about to leave again, he immediately followed and asked:
“How can you attend the anniversary celebration?”
Su Yiren stopped, her tone calm and composed,
“You’re not qualified to bargain with me anymore.”
“Su Yiren!” Lu Yunting’s voice was tinged with anger,
“How did you become like this!”
Su Yiren took a deep breath, suddenly turned around to face him, and asked back:
“What was I like before? Do you know?”
Lu Yunting opened his mouth, but couldn’t say anything.
Seeing that he couldn’t speak, Su Yiren simply answered for him:
“Obedient, sensible, indecisive, accepting everything, devoted to you, and obedient. Is that right?”
Every word was like a blunt knife, stabbing hard at Lu Yunting’s heart, it wasn’t that painful, but it was very uncomfortable.
“But in the end? You said these are things servants should do.” Su Yiren laughed at herself,
“Since you’re so disgusted with my past self, why are you now starting to dislike my current self? Or, is it that I, as a person, whether past or present, disgust you?”
“That’s not what I meant.” Lu Yunting’s voice was a little pale.
“What do you mean then!” Su Yiren’s voice suddenly rose,
“Lu Yunting!I’ve had enough! I don’t like my past self at all, that wasn’t the real me! I admit that I still can’t let go, but so what? I’m not so pathetic that I would become your slave again because of this ‘can’t let go’, your servant, and listen to your beck and call again!”
