Chapter 36
“Wei Shian was injured?!”
When Officer Luo arrived, Lu Jiu had an uneasy feeling.
She hadn’t expected that the person who had just reassured her in the early morning had been hurt.
After a brief moment of shock, Lu Jiu anxiously asked for more details.
Luo Wei quickly reassured her: “It’s not serious. The surgery was successful. As soon as the boss woke up, he asked me to come pick you up.”
After speaking, he realized he had accidentally let slip his informal way of addressing Lu Jiu.
Luo Wei glanced awkwardly at Lu Jiu’s mother and sister. Seeing no signs of disapproval, he discreetly sighed with relief.
Fang Wenyi, who had been frowning, then reminded her daughter: “Peony, go upstairs and get ready. Let your sister take you to the hospital.”
“Okay.” Lu Jiu took a deep breath. Though still worried, she had regained her composure. She calmly greeted Officer Luo and hurried upstairs to change out of her pajamas, which were not suitable for going out.
Seeing that her sister had managed her emotions, Lu Jun didn’t follow upstairs but instead invited Officer Luo for tea and asked about Officer Wei’s injury.
Of course, Luo Wei mentioned the injury while discussing his subordinate, who was injured while saving team members.
Before coming over, Luo Wei knew that Lu Jiu’s family was well-off, given the flashy sports car.
But in reality, it was even better than he imagined!
As a subordinate and a good friend, Luo Wei felt it necessary to boost the female side’s impression of his boss.
Lu Jun naturally picked up on the underlying meaning in Officer Luo’s words but wasn’t bothered by these kind gestures.
Once it was confirmed that Wei Shian would only need a month or two of recovery, Lu Jun relaxed and began hosting her guest.
Lu Jiu quickly changed her clothes and hurried downstairs in just a few minutes.
They took the indoor elevator to the garage. Fang Wenyi, who had come to see them off, reminded: “Wei just had surgery. The hospital food isn’t very nutritious. I’ll have Xiao Liu prepare some soup and other things to send over.”
She also wanted to go and see, as getting shot sounded serious. But since the young man had just had surgery, she feared it would make things worse if she showed up now.
Lu Jiu was looking at the messages from Officer Wei.
Seeing this, Lu Jun said: “Don’t rush. Let me check with the doctor about any dietary restrictions first.”
“Okay.”
In the garage, Lu Jun chose a low-key Audi. Seeing Officer Luo still standing outside, she raised an eyebrow: “Officer Luo, get in the car.”
Luo Wei pointed outside: “I drove here.”
Lu Jiu poked her head out: “It’s a bit far from the entrance. Get in the car, and we’ll take you out.”
The size of their yard was impressive. Before getting in the car, Luo Wei covertly admired the various luxury cars in the garage.
—
Forty minutes later.
The group arrived at the hospital.
The case still needed to be wrapped up, so only Wei Ping was left at the hospital.
When they arrived, he kindly stepped out into the hallway to give them space.
Lu Jiu was extremely anxious. She quickly greeted Deputy Wei and then rushed to the bedside.
Seeing her boyfriend lying on the bed, pale and exhausted, she couldn’t hold back her tears.
Wei Shian, despite his discomfort and pain, tried to sit up to greet her. “Don’t move!” Lu Jiu quickly went to press him back down.
After the anesthesia wore off, Wei Shian was still in a lot of pain and didn’t want to move, so he lay back down, holding Lu Jiu’s hand and reassuring her: “I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
How could he be fine? His face was devoid of color, and he had clearly lost a lot of blood.
With his forehead and nose bridge covered in a thin layer of sweat, Lu Jiu took out some tissues and gently wiped his sweat away.
“Really, it’s nothing serious. No bones were hurt.” This was a small consolation. Wei Shian looked at Lu Jun, and politely nodded: “Sorry for the trouble.”
Understanding that he was unsure of how to address her, Lu Jun first looked at her sister and then replied: “You can call me sister.”
If it were someone else, her tone might have been more formal, but given the relationship between her sister and the future brother-in-law, marriage seemed inevitable, so she was a bit more casual. She figured the future brother-in-law wouldn’t mind.
Wei Shian didn’t mind at all; in fact, he was in high spirits. He smiled and greeted her again: “Sister, thank you for your trouble.”
“No trouble at all.” Lu Jun glanced at her sister, whose cheeks had turned pink, and then said: “Alright, focus on your recovery. I’ll go check with the doctor about your condition and then head to the office.”
Lu Jiu stood up: “Sister, I’ll see you off.”
Lu Jun waved her off: “No need.”
But Wei Shian looked at Luo Wei standing on the other side.
Luo Wei immediately stepped forward: “I’ll see you off. You stay with the boss.”
This time, Lu Jun didn’t refuse. As she reached the door, she remembered something and turned back: “Almost forgot. My mom will come by around noon to bring you some food.”
Seeing her mature and composed future brother-in-law, Lu Jun walked away satisfied.
Wei Shian.
The sister-in-law might be imposing, but she was still a peer.
Meeting his girlfriend’s mother for the first time in a hospital setting, he could only lie down.
Wei Shian felt somewhat suffocated. He looked at his girlfriend and uncertainly asked: “Should I change into my police uniform?” He had heard that he looked especially handsome in it.
No wonder he was sweating again, Lu Jiu found it both funny and frustrating: “Are you really this nervous?”
Wei Shian was also uncomfortable, but some emotions were beyond his control. He suggested a rather unfeasible idea: “How about I ask Lao Luo to bring over the gifts I prepared?”
“And then have them given to my mom in the hospital? Let her carry them back herself?”
After being chastised by his soft-tempered girlfriend, Wei Shian felt his suggestion was indeed silly. He sighed, looked up at the ceiling, feeling a bit dejected. “Forget it.”
Lu Jiu was both exasperated and amused: “Let’s see if you dare to get injured again.”
“Not daring.” Despite some uncontrollable factors, lying in bed and facing the future mother-in-law in hospital attire was a lesson Wei Shian didn’t want to repeat.
Seeing how much it mattered to him, Lu Jiu changed the topic: “Have you told your family about the injury?”
Wei Shian snapped back to reality: “Not yet.”
Lu Jiu frowned, clearly disapproving: “Aren’t you going to tell them?”
“It’s not that.” Wei Shian squeezed his girlfriend’s soft hand, organized his thoughts, and continued: “It’s just that my mom has a rather flamboyant personality. If she comes, she’ll definitely pester you about our engagement.”
This was unexpected for Lu Jiu. She felt a bit awkward about meeting his mother but thought, “Let’s talk about that later. You can’t keep this injury from your family.”
Wei Shian looked at his girlfriend with deep, emotional eyes and smiled after a while: “Okay, I’ll call my mom later.”
“Do it now!”
The soft-tempered girl, with a stern expression, said: “I got a little hurt, so don’t worry. It’s nothing serious. I don’t want to call her either, but you shouldn’t hide things from your family.”
As she spoke, she pinched his arm. Wei Shian smiled at his blushing girlfriend and continued: “You’re right. I’m fine. With Peony taking care of me, you don’t need to come over. I’ll…”
Wei Shian hung up the phone: “My mom hung up.”
Despite his insistence, Lu Jiu was still frustrated but had to remember it for later. She decided to let it go for now: “Alright, stop talking. Rest a bit and regain your strength.”
“Okay.” Wei Shian was indeed very tired. He had been trying to keep his girlfriend cheerful, but now he just wanted to sleep. “Wake me up before Auntie arrives.”
“Don’t worry.” Lu Jiu adjusted the bed to a flat position and then helped him adjust the thin blanket.
He had barely closed his eyes for a few seconds before he opened them again: “Peony, should I still put on the police uniform?”
Though she found his nervousness endearing, Lu Jiu said: “Officer Wei, where’s your usual maturity and composure?”
Wei Shian honestly replied: “Nervousness got the better of me.”
Seeing that he needed some reassurance, Lu Jiu suggested: “Forget the uniform and gifts. How about I shave your beard?”
Wei Shian raised his hand and indeed felt the stubble: “Will you do it?”
Lu Jiu shook her head honestly: “Never shaved before.”
“Then I’ll do it myself. I don’t want to appear disheveled when meeting my future mother-in-law.”
If she weren’t so worried about his injury, Lu Jiu might have given him a few jabs.

On the other side.
After hanging up with her son, Fang Qiuci was both angry and anxious.
Here is the translation:
—
If Lu Jiu weren’t worried about this person being injured, he would have given him a few punches.
On the other side.
After hanging up the phone with her son, Fang Qiuci was both angry and anxious.
She quickly packed up what she needed to bring and drove to the city police station to pick up her husband.
The flower market is a two-hour drive from Haicheng.
When they arrived at the hospital parking lot and got out of the car, Fang Qiuci turned to look at her husband.
Hmm, the fifty-year-old man in a white police uniform looked quite good.
“Not leaving?” Wei Jun was surprised.
Fang Qiuci stepped forward to adjust her husband’s already crisp collar and, feeling uneasy, reminded him, “When we see the in-laws and the daughter-in-law later, smile more. Don’t keep a stern face. If you scare my daughter-in-law… Hmph, just wait until we get back.”
Wei Jun sighed silently, “I understand.”
“Understanding is not enough; you need to act on it.” Fang Qiuci gave one last worried reminder before heading towards the hospital.
At this moment, she noticed a beautiful woman with a food box passing by with a smile, which made her think.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, Fang Qiuci also returned a polite smile.
Everyone was here to visit the patient, and no one had time for idle chatter with strangers.
It wasn’t until they coincidentally ended up standing at the same hospital room door that she realized.
Fang Qiuci excitedly asked, “In-laws?”
Fang Wenyi.
