Chapter 46
Wei Shian withdrew his hand that was about to help: “It’s a ten-minute drive.”
“So close? Isn’t it just in the new district?”
Wei Shian started the car: “Yes, the wedding house is in this area.”
Lu Jiu carefully placed the paper bag with the bouquet on her lap: “That’s pretty good. It’ll be convenient for commuting.”
Wei Shian glanced at the girl beside him, feeling satisfied: “Since we’ll be living closer, it’ll be easier for you to see me.”
“Can’t it be that you want to see me?” Lu Jiu instinctively retorted.
Wei Shian smiled: “Yes, I’ve always wanted to see you.”
“You…” Lu Jiu didn’t quite realize she had been teased again.
But as it happened more frequently, she had learned not to engage: “Do you think… Forensic Doctor Lin will like the flowers I prepared?”
Offering to prepare the bouquet wasn’t entirely due to her admiration for Forensic Doctor Lin’s profession. It was more because there was no intersection between the two parties, and they wouldn’t be accepting her gift money.
However, not sending anything in return for free food and drinks wasn’t Lu Jiu’s style.
“Don’t worry. My colleagues are all nice, and the flowers are beautiful.” Noticing that his girlfriend was nervous, Wei Shian reassured her gently.
Lu Jiu’s eyebrows softened. Just as she was about to say something more, her phone rang.
Wei Shian glanced at his pocket: “Help me answer that.”
Since it was inconvenient to take a call while driving, Lu Jiu leaned over: “It’s a person named Luo Wei calling you.”
“It’s probably a reminder. You take it.”
“I… me?” Lu Jiu’s eyes widened.
Wei Shian smiled: “Yes, it’s a good opportunity to get used to it.”
Although she was internally complaining about the need to get used to it, Lu Jiu answered the call.
As soon as the call connected, Luo Wei’s loud voice came through: “Boss, where are you and your Wife? Officer Yan has to start picking up the bride in half an hour, and the bouquet isn’t here yet. Hurry up… could it be sister-in-law won’t come?”
Luo Wei was so talkative that Lu Jiu had a hard time finding a pause to respond: “Hello, we’ll be there in five minutes.”
There was a brief silence on the other end, followed by a hesitant voice: “Sister in-law… Sister in-law?”
Lu Jiu blushed: “Hello, Wei Shian is driving, so it’s inconvenient for him to answer the phone.”
“It really is the Sister in-law? Hello, hello, I’m Luo Wei… beep beep.” Mid-sentence, the call was abruptly ended. Luo Wei grumbled to Wei Ping beside him: “It must have been the boss who hung up, so stingy.”
The good-old man Wei Ping just chuckled silently.
Luo Wei didn’t need a response and cheerfully continued: “The Sister in-law’s voice sounds really nice and gentle. The boss is so lucky. I wonder what she looks like?”
Wei Ping calmly replied: “We’ll find out in a few minutes.”
“True, but with the boss’s conditions, she must not be ugly.”

Early 2000s.
Wedding banquets were mostly held at home.
But Forensic Doctor Lin and Yan Hanhai were both busy with work and didn’t want to trouble the elders, so they decided to hold it at a restaurant.
However, they would only go after picking up the bride.
So, at this moment, the groom’s relatives and friends were gathered at Yan Hanhai’s home, preparing for the final stages of the wedding.
With enough hands on deck, Luo Wei and Wei Ping waited downstairs for their team leader.
Luo Wei had always known.
His team leader was excellent in many ways, and his family background seemed good as well.
The kind of person who could capture his heart had to be someone who matched his status and was equally outstanding.
But just a few minutes later, when he saw the stunning beauty walking alongside his team leader, Luo Wei’s hands trembled, and he clutched his chest.
Not only Luo Wei but even the usually composed Wei Ping was astonished.
Wasn’t this the girl who had given the team leader food and drinks during the Zhao Dashan case?
Thinking this, Wei Ping stepped forward with a smile and greeted, “Captain Wei, is this your girlfriend?”
Wei Shian handed the bouquet to the suddenly mute Luo Wei before introducing, “This is my girlfriend, Lu Jiu.”
He then turned to the girl beside him, his voice noticeably gentler, “Lu Jiu, this is Deputy Captain Wei Ping, and this is Luo Wei, who spoke to you on the phone earlier.”
Lu Jiu smiled and greeted, “Hello.”
Since the bride and groom were the main focus of the day, she wore only a simple down jacket and a skirt, and didn’t wear any makeup.
But her stunning appearance couldn’t be hidden.
Wei Ping admired his team leader first before smiling warmly, “Hello, I’m Wei Ping. Just call me Old Wei. I hope you don’t mind if I call you Little Deer?”
Lu Jiu shook her head, “I don’t mind.”
Seeing that Luo Wei was still stiff, Wei Ping nudged him with his elbow.
Returning to his senses, Luo Wei glared at the boss and then nodded at the beautiful woman: “Hello, sister-in-law. You can call me Little Luo or Old Luo.”
Addressing someone as “sister-in-law” face-to-face made Lu Jiu a bit embarrassed, and her cheeks turned red.
Seeing this, Wei Shian shot a warning glance at his team members and then looked at his girlfriend: “Let’s go inside first.”
Lu Jiu breathed a sigh of relief: “Okay.”
Luo Wei quickly grabbed the bouquet and followed his team leader, lowering his voice as if he had been emotionally betrayed: “Boss, you’re too unkind. When I advised you to pursue her, you had that deadpan expression and seemed uninterested in her.”
Lu Jiu, with her fairly sharp hearing, curiously turned her head: “When was this?”
Wei Shian…
Luo Wei…

Chapter 23
“…Ahem… Boss, sister-in-law, I’ll deliver the flowers to Officer Yan. He said he must pick up Xiao Lin before 10 o’clock, and he has asked several times.”
Wei Ping put his hands behind his back and followed with a serious face: “I need to scold him for running off after causing trouble.” After saying that, he gave Wei Shian a look that said “good luck.”
Watching the two of them hastily leave, Lu Jiu, who wasn’t actually angry, couldn’t help but laugh.
It’s good that you’re laughing…
Wei Shian’s tense nerves gradually relaxed: “What Luo Wei mentioned was the time you returned the book.”
Lu Jiu remembered and asked with curiosity: “Did you really give me a cold shoulder back then?”
Wei Shian clenched his fists at his sides, feeling a bit annoyed: “No, we weren’t close at that time. I didn’t want to discuss too much and just ignored him.”
