After the Millennium Flower Demon Villainess Awakens Chapter 48

Chapter 48

In the afternoon, he helped her with her seatbelt, and she was so nervous she could hardly handle it. Kissing… kissing someone as intimidating as Officer Wei? She couldn’t even imagine it.

—

City Public Security Bureau

Wei Shian was in a similar situation as his girlfriend.

No, his was even more serious.

Seeing his colleagues gathered in a circle around his desk, he twitched his mouth: “You all seem very free?”

Luo Wei was the first to snort, “It’s break time, boss. Now that you’ve found such a great girlfriend, shouldn’t you treat us to a meal?”

The others chimed in:

“One meal isn’t enough, at least two.”

“Officer Wei is really something, I’m so jealous. Wasn’t your girlfriend the beautiful woman who came to the bureau before the New Year to bring you something?”

“Oh right, I didn’t get to see her at the time, but I heard she’s even more beautiful than a celebrity. I thought it was an exaggeration.”

“Officer Wei, tell us how you two met.”

“Yeah, we’re all still single.”

When men start gossiping, the noise level can be just as overwhelming. Wei Shian felt his head buzzing and raised his hand, “Alright, I’ll treat you to a meal. You pick the place.”

In truth, everyone was just having fun with him, although they were indeed quite stunned by how stunning Lu Jiu was.

Now that Officer Wei was being so generous, everyone laughed and gradually dispersed. But before they left, they didn’t forget to add: “Make sure to bring your girlfriend along.”

Bring along Peony?

Wei Shian took out his phone, found their text message thread, and smiled as he scrolled through a few pages before starting to type.

But halfway through, he deleted the message.

He let out a shallow sigh, placed the phone on the desk, and picked up the files to start organizing them.

He decided it would be better to finish his work quickly and invite her in person.

—

Over the next few days.

The young couple’s schedules never aligned.

If Lu Jiu wasn’t busy visiting relatives, then Wei Shian was rushing between meetings and moving house.

So, they could only stay in touch through phone calls and text messages.

Until the eighth day of the Lunar New Year.

At around six in the evening, just as Lu Jiu finished balancing the accounts and was about to get off work, her phone rang.

It was her boyfriend.

Lu Jiu smiled as she answered while walking towards the parking lot: “Hello?”

“Off work?”

Lu Jiu: “Yes, I’m on my way to the parking lot.”

“In a hurry to get home?”

Lu Jiu stopped in her tracks: “Why? Do you have time now?”

“Yeah, I just finished my work and wanted to ask you out for dinner.”

This man… always eager to see her, even right after finishing work… Lu Jiu felt a wave of sweetness in her heart: “Okay, should I wait for you in the car?”

“I’ll be there in two minutes.”

“That fast?”

“Yeah, I left the station before I called you.”

Lu Jiu blinked, then asked excitedly, “Are you saying you’ve already moved to the new address?”

“Yes, Peony, it’ll be much easier for us to meet from now on.”

Of course, it would be easier—less than a five-minute walk. Hearing the increasingly rapid footsteps over the phone, Lu Jiu’s mood began to soar.

How wonderful—her Officer Wei was rushing towards her…

Suddenly, just as she was about to open the car door, Lu Jiu sensed something was wrong.

Before she could turn around, she was forcefully yanked backward, falling to the ground. Fortunately, she reacted quickly, breaking her fall with her hands.

It was then that she saw her assailant—a man with his face covered.

The man, dressed in black with only his sinister eyes visible, gripped a knife in one hand while grabbing her bag with the other, threatening menacingly, “If you value your life, let go, or I’ll kill you.”

From the phone on the ground, she could vaguely hear Wei Shian’s anxious voice.

Lu Jiu ignored it because she had already picked up on the sound of rapidly approaching footsteps.

So, she cooperatively took off her bag and put on a terrified expression, saying, “Here… take it.”

The man was surprised at how easily he had obtained the bag.

He yanked it away, hastily opened it, and, seeing a good amount of cash inside, confirmed he hadn’t stolen the wrong item.

He briefly considered doing something more, given how attractive the woman was.

But time was against him—he could already hear the footsteps getting closer.

There would be other opportunities; there was no rush.

With that thought, he gave the terrified woman on the ground one last lecherous look before turning to run.

But just a few steps in, a powerful force struck him from behind.

He fell to the ground, curling up in pain.

He couldn’t understand who had attacked him, but he could clearly feel his back burning with pain, making it hard even to groan.

Lu Jiu had kicked the man down. Once she was sure he was in too much pain to get up, she kicked the knife away.

But as she picked up her bag, still fuming, she gave him one more kick.

The man howled in agony.

At that moment, Wei Shian, nearly a blur from how fast he was running, arrived.

He quickly handcuffed the writhing figure on the ground, then pulled his girlfriend into his arms, anxiously checking her over. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”

Lu Jiu wasn’t scared at all, but seeing Officer Wei so worried, she instinctively wanted to be coddled.

She raised her hand, showing a few fingers. “He tried to grab my bag earlier and squeezed my fingers—it hurts a little.”

Wei Shian looked at her hand and saw that her usually pale, delicate fingers were noticeably red.

He instinctively took her hand in his, gently kissing it before comforting her, “I’ll get you an ice pack later to help with the pain.”

Lu Jiu…

Chapter 24

He… he kissed it?

Her fingers, which had only been mildly sore, now felt as if they were on fire.

Feeling overwhelmed, Lu Jiu stammered, “Shouldn’t I call the police first?” After all, they needed to file a report, right?
