Chapter 51
Lu Jiu arrived at the store an hour later than expected.
Fang Jingjing had been playing solitaire on the computer for quite a while.
When she saw her friend, she quickly put down the mouse and circled around her.
Seeing that Lu Jiu looked healthy and had a rosy complexion, she finally relaxed and had the energy to tease her, “You’re so late! Auntie must have given you quite the lecture, right?”
Lu Jiu, thick-skinned as ever, retorted, “No way! My mom was so worried; she was comforting me in every possible way.”
Fang Jingjing rolled her eyes. “Do you really expect me to believe that?”
Lu Jiu snorted, “Believe it or not.”
The two best friends bantered back and forth for a while, in a conversation that wasn’t particularly meaningful but still fun.
At this point, Zhao Lanlan and Xiao Yuanzi, who had sensed something was off, also came over to check in.
Lu Jiu briefly recounted the events of the previous night and reminded them to be extra cautious when going out, suggesting they avoid carrying bags whenever possible.
“How many cups of Milk tea are you planning to buy?” Fang Jingjing suddenly remembered to ask when they arrived at the Milk tea shop and saw the long line ahead.
Lu Jiu replied, “I asked Wei Shian, and at first, he didn’t want me to buy any. He said he would treat everyone to a meal instead. But I thought that wasn’t quite right, so I suggested buying 20 cups for them to share. Oh, by the way, there are 10 people in Wei Shian’s team.”
“You did the right thing. He’s him, and you’re you. You two aren’t married yet, and besides, Milk tea isn’t that expensive. They won’t feel uncomfortable about it.”
“That’s what I thought too. I also brought some pastries that the housekeeper made. They’re really delicious, so I hope they’ll appreciate the gesture,” Lu Jiu said, lifting the paper bag in her hand.
Fang Jingjing playfully pinched her beautiful daughter’s cheek. “Oh my, time flies so fast. My dear Peony actually knows how to navigate social situations now. My kind big-sister heart… Wait a minute, you’re dating Officer Wei now, so why do you still call him Wei Shian?”
“He’s only a month older than me; what kind of big sister does that make him?” Lu Jiu brushed off her friend’s teasing hand and muttered shyly, “If I don’t call him by his full name, what should I call him?”
“Even if he’s just a minute older, he’s still your elder.” Fang Jingjing responded out of habit, then added with mock frustration, “What a waste! If I had a boyfriend, I’d be calling him ‘darling,’ ‘baby,’ ‘sweetheart’… anything to flirt with him. If that doesn’t work, just calling him ‘An’an’ would be cute too.”
“Are you kidding me?” Lu Jiu rolled her eyes at her friend. Just the thought of calling him ‘An’an’ made her want to laugh, considering how manly Officer Wei’s face was.
Besides, that man was full of clever tricks, hardly the type to suit such an innocent nickname.
Fang Jingjing looked serious. “Of course I’m not kidding! I may not have been in a relationship, but I’ve seen a lot—TV shows, novels, college roommates… they all do it.”
As the line in front of them began to move, Lu Jiu pulled her chattering friend along, taking a few steps forward before replying, “We’ve known each other since we were kids. Do you think I don’t know you by now? You only talk tough. We’ll see if you dare when you’re actually in a relationship.”
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“Heh…”
10:30 AM.
Wei Shian received a text from his girlfriend.
His eyes softened, and he stood up, addressing his colleagues in the office, “My girlfriend bought Milk tea for everyone. It’s at the service desk. Who wants to come with me to pick it up?”
“Me!” Luo Wei was the first to respond, immediately putting down the paperwork that was driving him crazy, and jumped to his feet.
After answering, he realized, “Wait, did sister-in-law buy us Milk tea? I thought it was you, boss.”
Guessing it was to thank them for what happened last night, Wei Ping chuckled, “We were just doing our job. Lu Jiu is too polite.”
“She said it was to thank you all for your help yesterday,” Wei Shian said as he picked up his phone and headed out.
Seeing this, Luo Wei quickly smoothed down his messy hair and followed.
Both men were tall, with long legs, and they hurried to the service desk in no time.
“Peony,” Wei Shian called out as he approached his girlfriend. Seeing her rosy cheeks and bright eyes, he knew she meant it when she said in her text that she wasn’t scared. She really had slept well, despite how delicate she looked… You truly couldn’t judge a book by its cover.
There were quite a few people at the service desk, and Lu Jiu, feeling a bit self-conscious under their glances, just wanted to leave quickly. She pointed to the Milk tea on the counter. “You should get back to work. I need to go now. Make sure to share the Milk tea and pastries with everyone, and please thank them for me.”
“You’re leaving already?”
“Yes… Oh, I almost forgot. This is my childhood friend, Fang Jingjing. We grew up together, I’ve mentioned her before.”
Only then did Wei Shian look at the girl standing beside his girlfriend and politely nodded. “Hello.”
Fang Jingjing withdrew her curious gaze and replied just as politely, “Hello.”
This was Fang Jingjing’s first time meeting her best friend’s handsome and good-looking boyfriend.
He had a great figure—narrow waist, broad shoulders, tall.
His skin was a bit tanned, and his gaze was intense when he looked at people—dark and fierce.
How to put it… He was indeed handsome, but not at all what she had imagined.
Especially the term ‘good-looking,’ which, in Fang Jingjing’s mind, was reserved for men like Han Fengming.
Who would have thought that her childhood friend actually liked someone so… masculine and tough?
And besides, the size difference between the two of them was pretty noticeable. In the future… hehe.
Wei Shian had no idea what wild thoughts were running through Fang Jingjing’s mind. After politely greeting her, he turned to his girlfriend again. “I have something to tell you.”
Lu Jiu tilted her head up, “What is it?”
Wei Shian glanced at the door, “Can we talk outside?”
“Sure.” Lu Jiu then looked at her friend, “Jingjing, wait here for me.”
This was Fang Jingjing’s first time at the police station, and she was curious. She pointed to a nearby bench, “Go ahead, take your time. I’ll wait there.”
Wei Shian turned to his teammate, “Luo Wei, can you keep her company?”
“Got it.”
After watching the couple leave, Luo Wei grabbed a disposable cup and headed to the water dispenser.
He planned to ask his boss’s girlfriend’s friend exactly how the boss had managed to win over such a beauty.
