With a splash, cold red wine was poured all over Su He, and the room immediately fell silent. The faces of the onlookers on the sofa were filled with various expressions.
Some were quite curious. Zheng San was known in the upper circles of Guangzhou for his audacity, and had long coveted the eldest son of the Su family from Jialai Real Estate, who was exceptionally good-looking. But he had the intent of a thief without the courage, always refraining from acting due to the Su family’s influence.
So why did he dare to splash wine on someone today?
“How about it?” Zheng San, heavily drunk, spoke with disdain and pride in his voice. He put down his wine glass and asked with a slurred tongue, “Have you made up your mind now?”
Su He looked around at the unfamiliar environment, which seemed to be a private room in some club. He wiped the dampness off his face, feeling the cold wine trickle down his neck into his collar, and shivered involuntarily as the air conditioning’s cold wind hit him.
He licked his lips and genuinely grimaced, “A bit bitter, not a good year.”
Zheng San slammed the table and cursed with a slight accent, “Who asked you how the wine was! Stop playing dumb and acting high and mighty here. Dressed so provocatively, you’re just born to be done! I’m still willing to pay to sleep with you, and later you’ll be on your knees thanking me.”
Su He was startled, tugging at his wet satin white shirt, confused…
He had just fallen asleep not long ago and had to get up for work the next day, so how did he end up here as soon as he opened his eyes?
Could it be a dream?
He looked at the reflection in the mirror, his pale face shining brightly under the dim and ambiguous light.
It was still his face, but with subtle differences.
This face was so blatantly beautiful, with deep eyes, full lips, and delicate features, that everyone around felt it was not a loss to have their eyes on him.
“I’ve prepared the room. Are you going yourself, or should I find someone to help you?” Zheng San scanned Su He’s slender waist up and down. Seeing that he wasn’t speaking, he gave a signal to the people beside him.
A few men in black swiftly moved forward to grab him. Su He instinctively took a few steps back, watching them warily.
Seeing that Zheng San was really about to make a move, someone quickly pulled him back and advised, “Alright, Old San, he’s still the eldest son of Jialai, destined to take charge someday. Offending Director Su of Jialai…”
“Director Su?” Zheng San sneered, and his next words were like thunder out of a clear sky.
“Director Su is busy welcoming his biological son. How could he care about this impostor? You guys don’t know yet, do you? He’s just an abandoned son now!”
Zheng San laughed triumphantly, and the crowd immediately began to chatter.
Su He was actually not the biological son of the Su family, so whether this abandoned son lived or died was no longer the Su family’s concern. It seemed this young master Su wouldn’t escape today’s fate!
The person at the center of the storm, however, began to zone out. This Su family, this Guangzhou, these familiar lines, this melodramatic plot…
Su He suddenly realized, wasn’t this the melodramatic business war novel he was reading before he fell asleep?!
Memories slowly returned.
It turned out that the sharp pain in his heart during his sleep was actually a precursor to sudden death, and after he kicked the bucket, he transmigrated into this book!
Business war novels often have similar plots, but this book had a cannon fodder villain with the same name as Su He—
A young master raised in luxury, spoiled and unlikable. After being exposed by his pretty-boy boyfriend as a fake young master, the villain was kicked out of the wealthy family, instantly going from being adored to being ridiculed.
The huge disparity led to the villain’s complete blackening. He turned to the powerful villain boss in the book, was sent undercover to the protagonist’s side, diligently causing trouble for the protagonist, becoming a stumbling block on the protagonist’s path to power. After being discovered by the protagonist, he was hung up, had his limbs broken, and died silently in a big fire.
The current scene was the turning point that changed the original owner’s life.
He had trusted his boyfriend with his identity, only to be betrayed and handed over to Zheng San, who had an old grudge with the original owner. Zheng San then had no scruples, not only raping the original owner but also breaking one of his hands.
Su He calmly closed his eyes. This was bad…
According to the usual trope, he should awaken now, punch the scumbag, kick the unscrupulous wealthy family, and live a cool life of fighting and snatching.
But Su He was a loner who spent his days writing scripts in a rented apartment, with no family above or below, living a life as bland as water.
His life’s motto was that living was fine, and dying was okay too.
Was there really any need to struggle with a life like the original owner’s, where you could see the end at a glance?
Seeing that Su He had no reaction to his provocation, Zheng San was very dissatisfied, his greasy gaze scraping up and down Su He. The more he was like this, the more Zheng San wanted to see him collapse.
Zheng San laughed, “You used to put on airs with me all the time. I’m a big person who doesn’t hold grudges. Call me daddy, and I’ll take good care of you!”
As soon as he finished speaking, a man sitting on the sofa beside him chimed in, “Go ahead, make Director Zheng happy.”
Su He looked over.
The man who spoke was in a suit and had silver-rimmed glasses, looking gentle and reasonable, but the mocking smile at the corner of his mouth exposed his true intent to aid the abuser.
This was probably the original owner’s pretty-boy boyfriend, Lin Jing.
The two of them were singing in harmony, aiding the abuser, making Su He the target of everyone’s criticism.
He blinked and said woodenly, “My real dad died over ten years ago, bankrupt and jumped off a building. Director Zheng, your stocks have been falling lately, taking verbal advantage might cost you dearly.”
“Damn, are you cursing me?”
Zheng San immediately flared up. He picked up a wine bottle from the table and smashed it down with a bang, the loud noise startling everyone.
Su He’s brow twitched. The original owner’s right hand, which was broken by a wine bottle, could it be…
This very wine bottle!
Hiss, whether he dies later or not, it sounds painful. It’s necessary to struggle a bit!
He caught a glimpse of Lin Jing out of the corner of his eye and instantly remembered something, quickly speaking up, “Director Zheng, haven’t you been investigating who leaked your company’s bidding information? Why not suspect your new business partner?”
Upon hearing this, Lin Jing’s expression clearly changed.
He knew very well that the business partner Su He referred to was himself. In the blink of an eye, the aura of having everything under control on Lin Jing disappeared entirely, and the look he gave Su He was downright vicious.
Zheng San hadn’t reacted yet and shouted, “How do you know?!”
Because that’s how you went bankrupt in the book!
Su He was about to say more, but Lin Jing spoke first, cutting him off, “Ah He! What nonsense are you trying to make up now?”
He turned to look, and Lin Jing had already stood up, frowning deeply as he walked around the low table toward him, tall and strong, a whole circle larger than Su He, looking like he was coming to eat him.
Su He wouldn’t just stand there waiting to be silenced. He covered his head and ran around the room, dodging and shouting.
“I’m not lying! You can call the company right now and see if there’s a company called Lin Ke Investment that’s acquiring your scattered shares. The legal person behind this company is Lin Jing!”
This farce was getting more and more bizarre.
Zheng San’s drunkenness was completely gone, and he hesitantly called his assistant to verify.
Lin Jing couldn’t care less about Su He and was about to stop Zheng San.
The others in the private room no longer had the mood to watch the show and have fun, all finding excuses to leave, afraid of getting into trouble.
Su He covered his ears, curled up in a corner, his heart pounding like a hamster trying to protect itself by curling into a ball.
He watched as Zheng San’s face changed after hearing some shocking news, cursing and confronting Lin Jing face to face.
Lin Jing initially refused to admit it, maintaining a serious demeanor, trying to distance himself from the situation, but the argument gradually turned into a scuffle, and the people they brought quickly joined the melee.
The situation instantly reversed!
A conspiracy against Su He turned into a dog-eat-dog fight.
The sound of cursing and the clashing of tables and chairs became a chaotic mess!
Su He held his breath, dodging flying wine and glass shards, minimizing his presence as he slowly moved toward the door.
Suddenly, a pair of broken glasses flew in front of him.
He tilted his head, and Lin Jing, in the midst of the scuffle, glared at him with a bruised face, looking furious. Su He gave him an apologetic smile and quickly opened the door to slip out.
The closing door left the escalating sounds of argument behind.
He quickly left the scene of trouble, returning to the sunlight from the club that never saw daylight. Standing at the entrance of the club, Su He’s heart was still racing.
He slowly exhaled.
He survived…
But soon, he would still die!
Only now did Su He have time to think about his future. Since turning to the villain was what led to the original owner’s death, then he just wouldn’t do it.
He wouldn’t go to the Sheng family, wouldn’t turn to the villain boss, and wouldn’t go undercover beside the protagonist. Everything would be perfectly resolved!
However, the next second, the phone in his pocket suddenly rang. Su He took it out and saw the caller ID—
Secretary Chen (Sheng)
The note “Sheng” referred to the villain that the original owner was supposed to join, the legendary chairman of the Sheng Group.
Su He’s heart skipped a beat, and he slowly pressed the answer button.
“Mr. Su, do you have time in the next few days? Director Sheng would like to meet with you about the matter we discussed earlier.”
Su He was stunned. From the sound of it, the original owner hadn’t just colluded with the villain after this “bar incident,” but had actually planned it all along!?
~
In the southern hemisphere’s Lion City, at the World Challenge Race.
Beep—beep—
After two beeps, five red lights went out, and the cars on the track simultaneously stepped on the gas and started, the roar of engines echoing across the sky.
“The MG team grabbed pole position in the previous qualifying race, giving them a significant advantage in this start. The number one driver is holding the lead, let’s see if he can maintain the advantage… Oh no! I spoke too soon, MG number one just got overtaken!”
The commentator’s slightly excited voice echoed on the scene, and the person lazily sitting in the VIP box straightened his back, frowning.
The commentator shifted his tone, with a hint of regret in his voice.
“What a pity, forgive me for mentioning it, but if it weren’t for MG team’s ace driver getting injured and withdrawing at the last minute, MG would undoubtedly be competing for the top three! After all, the Lion City track record is still in his hands!”
With these words, there was a slight commotion in the audience, and the commentator took the opportunity to look at the big screen playing highlights from previous races, unable to resist saying more.
“It’s said that this talented driver might choose to retire due to his injury. If we don’t see him next season, it will truly be our loss!”
In the footage, the driver in the Ferrari had his entire face covered by a helmet, and with a move of his hand, the speeding car instantly found the best angle to enter the corner, perfectly overtaking the car in front.
Perhaps the director also cherished the face hidden under the helmet, as the next second cut to a podium scene.
The man removed his helmet, revealing a strikingly handsome face.
Countless flashbulbs immediately surged forward.
He brushed back his hair, flattened by the helmet, his features sharp and eyes piercing. His perfect looks, superior performance, and mysterious background had made him a media-favored legendary driver.
At the end of the clip, a row of bold letters flamboyantly displayed his name—
Sheng Jingyu.
After reminiscing about the star driver, the commentator refocused on the race: “MG number one seems to be attempting a line-cutting corner, but unfortunately, the angle isn’t great, blocked by SAT number two…”
In the VIP room.
The MG team manager angrily shouted at the person beside him, “Damn, what’s this kid trying to prove! Trying to play risky like you, without knowing his own limits. You could drive better with one hand!”
“Stop egging me on, I’m an injured person now.” Sheng Jingyu shook his arm.
His hood covered half his face, a bandage wrapped around his forehead, and a brace on his forearm near the wrist, looking quite pitiful. Yet his lazy and composed tone diluted the sense of injury.
The last bit of sunset vanished from the sky.
Sheng Jingyu checked the time on his watch and got up to leave. The manager quickly called after him, asking, “Are you really going back to the country? Will you come back?”
The manager had a hunch that his return to the country to recover was just an excuse, and that once he went back, he might never return.
“We’ll see.”
Sheng Jingyu waved his hand and left the VIP room.
The muscle tissue post-injury throbbed with pain, a fine, constant ache that annoyed him, keeping his brow furrowed in a cloud. As soon as he stepped out, his phone rang incessantly like a death knell.
Sheng Jingyu sneered, expecting it, and answered.
“Is my dad up to something?” he asked bluntly.
Secretary Chen on the other end didn’t expect the young master to be so direct, leaving no room for the prepared pleasantries, and instead said, “Young master, Director Sheng is concerned about your health and asked me to inquire about your flight time. Guangzhou is rainy and the roads are bad, so we can arrange to pick you up.”
It sounded better than it was.
These words spun around Sheng Jingyu’s mouth twice, and he mercifully didn’t say them out loud.
His feud with his father had started the moment he was born and had continued for 22 years, only growing more intense.
“No need, just get to the point.” He had no interest in hearing these flattering negotiations, his attitude blatantly clear.
Secretary Chen had no choice but to be frank: “After you return, you’ll be taking over part of Shengshi’s operations, which will be busy and not conducive to your recovery. Director Sheng has arranged for an assistant to help you share the burden.”
It sounded nice, calling it an assistant, but it was just a 24/7 surveillance camera. Sheng Jingyu knew exactly what his father was arranging.
Like the ancient court where the old emperor planted spies by the crown prince’s side.
No feelings, just calculations.
Sheng Jingyu played dumb, stopping in front of the elevator, and asked, “Don’t I already have Assistant Fang? He can handle it.”
As if anticipating his response, Secretary Chen chuckled and continued to negotiate, “Assistant Fang might not be able to handle it alone. Having another person will help coordinate your work and life, young master.”
Listen to that, how dignified.
The elevator doors reflected Sheng Jingyu’s handsome face under the hood. He raised an eyebrow and snorted coldly, “Fine, then have them warm my bed, that would be perfect.”
