Chapter 7: Adapting to a New Beginning
Sister has always been unconventional, she wouldn’t be planning to put a sack over the prince’s head and beat him up, would she?
Jiang Li sighed when she saw the sack: “It was a waste of money to get that old woman to stuff the sack in for me.”
“Did you really have someone put the sack in? What are you bringing a sack in for, Sister?”
“I wanted to put you in the sack and beat you up,” Jiang Li said unhappily.
Douchou looked at her and smiled, her eyes full of reliance.
“Still smiling! I want to beat you up.” Jiang Li said, “I finally got you out, but you had to squeeze back in.”
“I want to be with Sister.” Douchou said, “Without you, my face would be bullied to death. But I’m afraid of pain and can’t bear to ruin it. Being able to come in might not be a bad thing for me.”
With Sister around, she wasn’t afraid no matter where she was.
What she didn’t say was that if Sister was in a precarious situation here, she could protect her.
Sister was clean, but she was covered in dirt.
She couldn’t bear to see Sister get dragged into the mud, but she could.
But even if she didn’t say it, how could Jiang Li, who was so smart, not understand?
“Douchou, be more selfish and take care of yourself first.” Jiang Li said, “If you had been caught today, I wouldn’t have accompanied you. So, you originally didn’t have to come in to accompany me.”
Douchou just looked at her and smiled, without saying a word.
“Forget it, it’s useless to say these things now. I’ll find a way to take you and Zhi Zi out.”
Since she could escape from the Duke’s Mansion, she would definitely be able to escape from here again.
Three years, five years, she had patience.
“This sack,” Jiang Li said, “I originally thought that although the Prince of Ping was under house arrest, the royal mansion’s money should still be there.”
She planned to take some money with her when she left, since the Prince of Ping had no chance to go out and spend it anyway.
As husband and wife, she would reluctantly help him make the money worth something.
Douchou couldn’t help but laugh, “Sister can consider scraping a layer of the ground and taking it away. Otherwise, there’s really nothing to take.”
Jiang Li: “…”
Zhi Zi said softly, “Miss, I’m afraid you’ll have to pay out of your own pocket.”
“Impossible, absolutely impossible!”
Refuse to be a money-losing business, starting with me!
Douchou put the sack back and looked at another fertility bucket, which also had something in it.
This time, without waiting for her to ask, Jiang Li said, “It’s vegetable seeds and grain seeds.”
“Is Sister going to plant vegetables and grains?”
“I’m preparing for both possibilities.” Jiang Li said with a proud look, sweeping away her previous gloom, “I’ve thought about it, if the royal mansion is controlled by people who are snobbish, then we’ll be self-sufficient.”
She had exchanged the two thousand taels of silver she had extorted from the Duke’s Mansion for a thousand taels of small silver notes, so she should be doing well.
If she really had money but couldn’t spend it, then she would grow her own food.
“You guys clean up, I’ll go out and see if there’s any food to eat,” Jiang Li said.
She first went into all the side rooms and ear rooms in the courtyard except for the main room.
It was really bare, and everything had been taken away.
But what Jiang Li was very satisfied with was that there was a small kitchen in the corner of the courtyard.
Food is the most important thing for the people, and eating was too important.
However, the kitchen also looked like it hadn’t been used for a long time, and there was a thick layer of dust on the stove.
Jiang Li touched it with her finger, then shook her head in disgust.
But since no one was using it, it was just right for her.
“It’s so dirty here, Miss, you go out quickly, I’ll clean it up.” Zhi Zi rolled up her sleeves and looked around for rags and a basin.
“I’ll go see where the well is in the mansion,” Jiang Li said.
This body was naturally strong, carrying water and working in the fields,
Not to mention.
Heaven gave her “talent”, and it turned out to be waiting for her here!
Other girls, when they get married, go from household fights to palace fights, or at worst, continue household fights; only she is fresh and refined, going from household fights to farming, focusing on self-reliance, self-improvement, oh yeah.
Douchou wanted to go out with Jiang Li, but she was disgusted: “Go back and put on two more layers of yellow powder for me, and stay honestly in the room.”
“Then I’ll continue to go back and pack things.” Douchou smiled and watched Jiang Li leave.
She turned around to go back to the room, but suddenly saw Jian Lai, holding a sword, standing under the corridor, coldly scrutinizing her.
She didn’t know when he had started standing there.
The smile on Douchou’s face instantly disappeared, replaced by a face like cold frost.
She acted as if she didn’t see Jian Lai and walked straight into her room.
Jian Lai frowned.
This maid was arrogant because of her beauty and was not a good person.
“Get out, get out!” The suppressed and painful scolding of Prince Ping came from the room.
Jian Lai leaned against the corridor pillar and closed his eyes.
Mosheng would never understand that what the prince needed at this time was not care, but dignity.
Such a proud person had now fallen to being paralyzed in bed, unable to move, and when the poison broke out, he was even more undignified, like a stray dog, unable to live and unable to die.
The prince had long lost hope of living.
But there were still old subordinates who had followed him for many years, and they were the responsibility he couldn’t let go of.
After a moment, Mosheng came out of the room, wiping his tears.
Jian Lai glanced at him but didn’t say anything.
Mosheng leaned against the other corridor pillar, standing opposite him, sniffed, and cried, “Jian Lai, what should we do?”
Three years, it had been three years.
What was withering was not only the muscles on the prince’s body, but also their hope.
Didn’t they say that good people are rewarded?
Why did the prince, such a good person, end up in such a state? Heaven was blind!
When would they see some light in this life!
“Zhi Zi, come quickly, I got water and fire.” Jiang Li came in, carrying a wooden bucket full of water in one hand and holding burning firewood in the other.
She had gone to the kitchen outside just now, intending to ask those people for things, but they all ignored her.
Then she could only do it herself.
She took water from the well herself, and drew burning firewood from under the stove. She didn’t need to start a fire when she came back.
Mosheng stared blankly at Jiang Li, who walked in with “light.”
This one was a bit unfamiliar.
But Jiang Li ignored him and walked straight into the kitchen, stuffing the firewood under the stove, and said, “Wait, I’ll go move firewood and get some meat and vegetables.”
When those people reacted later, they might not give them anything.
She had to take advantage of their current confusion to get some things first, take care of their stomachs for the next few days, slowly adapt to the royal mansion, and figure out all the places in the royal mansion.
This pool of water was deeper than she imagined.
But she had encountered so many insolent servants since she traveled here, and she had never been afraid of anyone.
Mosheng rubbed his eyes. If it weren’t for the sound coming from the kitchen, he would have suspected that he was seeing things.
He looked at Jian Lai for help, “Who, who is she?”
This light came so unexpectedly.
The lifeless courtyard now had someone besides him and Jian Lai.
“Didn’t you see the red wedding dress she’s wearing?” Jian Lai said coldly.
“You got married?” Mosheng’s eyes were about to pop out.
He was a bit foolish, and besides taking care of Prince Ping, all other things were automatically blocked by him.
