Ye Qingyun was stunned. He could feel the sweat on their palms, sticky and warm. With Gu Shenyuan’s words lingering in the air, the atmosphere became undeniably intimate.
“… Are you joking?” Ye Qingyun asked, incredulously.
If Gu Shenyuan was willing to engage in certain intimate activities with him, even though Ye Qingyun couldn’t imagine what Gu Shenyuan would be like in those moments, he still believed it was possible.
But is Gu Shenyuan kissing every inch of him? That was strange. He couldn’t even imagine it—it didn’t fit with Gu Shenyuan’s aloof, indifferent image!
“This isn’t a joke,” Gu Shenyuan’s voice carried an unspoken intensity in the darkness. Ye Qingyun heard the rustling of the blanket as Gu Shenyuan moved closer, his magnetic voice whispering in his ear, “Ye Qingyun… You’re so sweet.”
Ye Qingyun froze. Before he could say anything, Gu Shenyuan placed a light kiss on his ear and pulled away.
“Go to sleep. Good night,” Gu Shenyuan said.
Ye Qingyun closed his eyes, the warmth on his ear lingering. His mind started to wander.
Was that really how it ended?
Why did he feel a bit disappointed?
It was over—he had changed. He was no longer the same Ye Qingyun who was all-ages friendly. Without realizing it, he had already escalated to a level that was forbidden for minors to watch!
—
When Ye Qingyun returned, Gu Shenyuan didn’t let him wander around aimlessly. Instead, he arranged for a health checkup.
Once all the doctors were present, Gu Shenyuan explained the situation to Ye Qingyun.
Ye Qingyun obviously wouldn’t refuse a free checkup, especially since all the doctors were famous figures in the interstellar world. Ye Qingyun eagerly agreed and followed Gu Shenyuan’s instructions.
After a series of tests, the health report came out quickly. Most of the doctors said Ye Qingyun was very healthy, except for one neurologist.
This particular doctor had been specially invited by Gu Shenyuan and was highly experienced in studying amnesia.
The doctor looked at Ye Qingyun, then at the report in his hand, his expression serious.
“Doctor, what’s wrong? Is there something wrong with me?” Ye Qingyun asked nervously.
Could this memory loss be a sign of some terminal illness?
Ye Qingyun instinctively looked at Gu Shenyuan, and sure enough, Gu Shenyuan’s expression immediately darkened.
“There’s nothing major,” the doctor adjusted his glasses and looked at Gu Shenyuan. “Can I speak with you alone?”
“Why do you need to speak alone? I want to listen too!” Ye Qingyun protested.
The doctor’s words sounded as though he was hiding something from Ye Qingyun, wanting to tell Gu Shenyuan in private, as if Ye Qingyun was about to die, so Gu Shenyuan could explain things and let him live his last days happily.
This was a bit melodramatic. No, he had to understand everything. What if this condition was something he could cure himself?
Gu Shenyuan tightened his grip on his hand and nodded at the doctor. “He will stay here and listen, just say it.”
The doctor cleared his throat awkwardly. “Well, I’ll say it directly. Mr. Ye Qingyun’s brain has suffered a certain amount of impact, leading to some disarray in specific areas of the brain, which caused memory loss. This type of memory loss is reversible, and in previous cases, people who suffered damage to this area and experienced memory loss eventually regained their memories one day.”
Gu Shenyuan didn’t relax. He asked again, “Will this disarray have any impact on his health?”
The doctor quickly reassured him. “Don’t worry, it won’t harm the body. Mr. Ye Qingyun is in good health.”
Only then did Gu Shenyuan completely breathe a sigh of relief.
Ye Qingyun, more curious about the possibility of recovering his memory, asked, “Can I regain my memories? How long will it take?”
“I can’t give you an exact date. There is no fixed time,” the doctor said.
“But based on our analysis, it could be as short as a few months, or as long as several decades. However, there is always a possibility that your memory will return one day.”
Ye Qingyun felt a little disappointed, but quickly lifted his spirits.
Maybe he would recover his memory in a few days. This kind of thing couldn’t be rushed; it was better to let things happen naturally.
But since his memory loss seemed to be in good condition, why had the doctor looked so serious just now?
Sure enough, the doctor spoke again: “However, what I want to talk about isn’t just this, but the additional issues related to memory loss.”
The doctor adjusted his wording before explaining: “This particular brain area is very sensitive to emotions. According to the report, people who suffer damage in this area and experience memory loss, if they have been deceived emotionally during the period of amnesia, will develop a strong aversion to the liar once their memory returns.”
Both Ye Qingyun and Gu Shenyuan fell silent for a moment. Ye Qingyun found this situation hard to believe, while Gu Shenyuan was thinking of more.
Finally, Gu Shenyuan asked in a deep voice, “What do you mean by deceived emotionally?”
“Well…” The doctor glanced at Ye Qingyun again. Seeing that Ye Qingyun had no intention of leaving and Gu Shenyuan didn’t seem to want him to leave either, the doctor reluctantly continued.
“For example, if Mr. Ye Qingyun asked you if you ever liked someone else besides him, and you gave a negative answer when the truth was otherwise, then you would have emotionally deceived Mr. Ye Qingyun, If Mr. Ye Qingyun regains his memory and learns the truth that you lied to him, he will likely develop a strong aversion, one that even he might not be able to control.”
Ye Qingyun: ‘!!!’
Could something like this happen? Does that mean Gu Shenyuan had no choice but to tell him the truth?
Ye Qingyun turned his head to look at Gu Shenyuan, but Gu Shenyuan’s expression remained unchanged, and it was hard to tell what he was thinking.
Gu Shenyuan seemed to recall something and asked, “Do emotional issues like this count?”
“Yes, please don’t hold any hopes of avoiding it,” the doctor said seriously.
Once the consultation ended, the doctor left, and they walked down the long hallway. Ye Qingyun looked around, confirming that no one was nearby, and then nudged Gu Shenyuan’s shoulder.
“Are you scared? Do you have anything to say?”
Gu Shenyuan smiled faintly.
Ye Qingyun thought for a moment and decided to hold back his curiosity and not dig into Gu Shenyuan’s little secrets. “If there’s anything you can’t tell me, just tell me early, and I won’t ask anymore.”
‘Better not to push too much,’ he thought.
‘What if I ask too much and he answers truthfully, revealing something irrelevant but upsetting?’
“Nothing that I can’t tell you,” Gu Shenyuan took Ye Qingyun’s hand gently. “You’re the first and last person I will love. There are no exes, no future partners, no cheating, and I have never changed my heart. This is my promise to you, and it’s the truth.”
Ye Qingyun suddenly heard this string of words and felt his face heat up.
Oh my god, Gu Shenyuan, the type of silent, aloof protagonist who never says much, could say something like this? He, who remained unfazed in the face of countless admirers, actually made him blush and feel his heart race. Times have changed!
Gu Shenyuan looked at Ye Qingyun’s happy expression, smiled lightly, and then quickly lowered the corners of his mouth.
As for Ye Qingyun’s curiosity about his past romantic experiences, Gu Shenyuan had nothing to hide and would tell him the truth.
What he was afraid of hearing, what he didn’t want to hear, was Ye Qingyun’s curiosity about his past feelings.
If Ye Qingyun asked him about how they met, or whether they liked each other after their first meeting, how should he answer?
Should he tell Ye Qingyun that it wasn’t like that, that Ye Qingyun liked someone else at the time, not him?
What if Ye Qingyun still had feelings for that person? Would he have to tell Ye Qingyun everything, including how that person was the one Ye Qingyun loved most, the “white moonlight” in his heart? Would he even rank below that person in terms of affection?
Gu Shenyuan wasn’t the type to peacefully coexist with rivals in love. He didn’t have the temperament of a main wife, and he certainly didn’t have the broad-mindedness to tolerate others.
He hoped that Ye Qingyun would only think about him, only long for him, just like now.
If there ever came a day when he would have to personally tell Ye Qingyun that he still liked someone else, it would undoubtedly be like cutting a piece of flesh from his heart.
… All he could do now was hope that Ye Qingyun would lose interest in his past.
———
Ye Qingyun didn’t know what Gu Shenyuan was thinking. He just felt that they were a perfect match. Neither of them had been in a relationship before, so everything about love was something they could learn together. They didn’t need to worry about ex-boyfriends making the other jealous— it was perfect!
That evening, after dinner, Ye Qingyun leaned against Gu Shenyuan while they watched TV together.
On the TV was a travel show. The location for this episode felt oddly familiar to Ye Qingyun.
On-screen, the beautiful host was delivering her opening lines: “Hello, everyone! Welcome to our weekly travel show. This week, we’re taking you on a starry adventure to the romantic destination of lovers—Romanti Star! I’m sure many of you are already familiar with this place.”
The camera shifted away from the host and began showing the surrounding scenery.
Ye Qingyun did feel a sense of familiarity. Had he and Gu Shenyuan been here before?
The camera returned to the host, who continued, “It’s time for the annual competition at Romanti Star. Can you guess what the grand prize for the winner is? Drumroll— we’ve got the details for you!”
The host stretched her hand out from behind her back, holding several photos, one of which displayed a finely crafted pendant.
The host continued, “The organizers have searched far and wide, spending a fortune to acquire the finest Stone of love, then having it sculpted by a master artisan into this pendant. Legend has it that the Stone of love holds mysterious powers. It is said to bind the giver and the recipient of the stone in eternal love, never parting until old age.”
Ye Qingyun instinctively reached up to touch his neck, but it was empty— nothing was there.
… He wanted that pendant, and he wanted Gu Shenyuan to give it to him in person.
The host went on to explain how to win the pendant: participants would compete, and the strongest contender would win the ultimate prize.
The host smiled as she said, “This year, the number of contestants has reached a new high. I wonder what kind of experts will show up?”
Ye Qingyun was indeed quite fond of the pendant, but as soon as he heard about the competition’s conditions, he immediately gave up on the idea of winning it.
Even though Gu Shenyuan was strong enough to easily crush anyone in the competition, his status was far too high for him to lower himself to participate in something like this. If he did, wouldn’t others gossip about him? Gu Shenyuan definitely wouldn’t want to show himself like that.
It was fine. There would be other chances in the future, and when that time came, he would ask Gu Shenyuan to buy it for him.
Ye Qingyun was about to change the channel, not wanting to hear more praise for the pendant, but before he could, Gu Shenyuan grabbed his wrist.
“What’s wrong?” Ye Qingyun asked.
“You like it,” Gu Shenyuan said with certainty.
“I don’t… okay, I do like it,” Ye Qingyun admitted under Gu Shenyuan’s all-knowing gaze.
“You’re not planning to use your privileges to just get it for me, are you? Please don’t! We should be civilized. It’s just a small ornament, it doesn’t matter if I don’t have it.”
“No need for power,” Gu Shenyuan’s eyes softened. “I will obtain it through the proper channels and give it to you.”
‘Proper channels?’
Ye Qingyun froze for a moment, then quickly realized what Gu Shenyuan meant. He hurried to stop him: “You’re thinking of going to win first place? You don’t have to. You don’t like these kinds of competitions, so don’t force yourself—”
Ye Qingyun stopped himself when he saw Gu Shenyuan moving closer, almost as if he was going to kiss him.
But Gu Shenyuan didn’t kiss him in the end; he just looked at him.
“It’s not forcing myself,” Gu Shenyuan’s dark eyes reflected only his face.
“As long as you’re happy, I can do anything.”
