Chapter 20: Stay Behind

After the Shen family left, the shop became quiet again. The nanny was feeding the babies formula, and Shen Yunhe walked over to Jiang Banyue, who was sitting at the front desk, her head down, calculating.

“Banban, I regret divorcing you. Please give me another chance, okay? I will definitely cherish you.”

Jiang Banyue looked up at him. “If you’re asking to remarry because of the kids, you don’t have to. I won’t stop you from being involved with them. You can visit them anytime.”

“No! It’s not because of the kids, it’s because of you.”

Shen Yunhe hurriedly explained, sweating in his panic, afraid Jiang Banyue might misunderstand him.

Jiang Banyue sneered, mocking him.

“I can make my own money, and I have three lovely children. I couldn’t be more comfortable. Why would I remarry you? Do you know, after we got married, Liu Juan came to our house to look for me? Right in front of me, she was being affectionate and calling your name, acting like you were so concerned about her, treating her like a sister. She even knew everything you did, she understood you so well.

But me, your wife, I felt like an outsider, completely clueless. If someone didn’t know better, they’d think she was your wife and I was the outsider!”

As Jiang Banyue thought about this, her anger flared up again, and she looked at Shen Yunhe with increasing contempt.

Shen Yunhe looked at her in shock, urgently trying to explain.

“I don’t know that woman at all! How could I treat her like a sister? We have no relationship whatsoever. Believe me, I swear, I have been completely faithful to our marriage, and I haven’t done anything to betray you!”

Jiang Banyue calmed down, feeling confused by her own anger. What was she so angry about? She wasn’t the one married to Shen Yunhe, so why was she so upset?

“You can leave. I won’t remarry you.”

Shen Yunhe, feeling frustrated, pinched the bridge of his nose and looked at Jiang Banyue with determined eyes.

“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of Liu Juan. She’s the one who caused our divorce, tore our family apart. I will never let her get away with it!”

Jiang Banyue didn’t want to hear anything about the main couple, coldly replying:

“Just leave. I don’t want to see you!”

Jiang Banyue turned and walked over to the babies. Shen Yunhe stood there, watching her back, a wave of bitterness rising in his chest. He clutched his chest, breathing heavily, trying to hold back his emotions. He forced a smile, but it wouldn’t come.

After a long silence, he walked slowly toward the babies, holding them tightly. His lips trembled.

“Babies, be good and listen to mommy. Daddy still has things to do and will be gone for a while. When daddy is free, I’ll come back to see you.”

The second and third babies sensed the sadness in his voice and began crying in his arms. The two nannies quickly came over to comfort them.

Jiang Huaijin stayed quietly in his father’s arms, understanding that his mother was making his father leave, but he couldn’t blame her. Everything she did was to protect them.

As Jiang Huaijin was tightly held by his father, a tear fell onto his neck, cold to the touch.

“Babies, daddy loves you, and he loves your mommy too.”

Jiang Huaijin felt his father’s pain but didn’t know what to do. Shen Yunhe steeled himself, gently putting his son down before turning to leave. Jiang Huaijin’s heart ached, and tears fell from his eyes.
