Chapter 25: Fighting

Shen Yunhe’s eyes were filled with disgust. He had just returned and hadn’t even had time to deal with this woman, yet she had come looking for him again. Shen Yunhe suspected that this woman had installed a radar on him—how was it that wherever he went, she could always find him?

Without even glancing at her, Shen Yunhe strode forward, determined to deal with Liu Juan as soon as possible.

Liu Juan, in pain, was sweating profusely on her forehead. She raised her head in shame and anger to look at Shen Yunhe’s retreating back.

Several military wives passed by and chuckled. One plump military wife sneered:

“Everyone must keep a close eye on their men. This woman specializes in married men. I’ve seen her go after Commander Shen’s wife and stir up trouble until they divorced. She’s nothing but a vixen!”

“Yes, I’ve seen it too. Back when Commander Shen and his wife were together, this woman ignored his wife and flirted with him. At the time, I thought something was off, but later, when Commander Shen divorced his wife, this woman stuck to him like a leech. Then I realized—she was after him!”

Liu Juan, enraged, cursed loudly, “You bunch of shrews, stop slandering me. I was the one who liked Commander Shen first. Three years ago, before he even got married, I liked him. His marriage with that woman was an arranged one, without any feelings. Now he’s single, so why can’t I pursue him? It’s a new society now, and we have the freedom to pursue whoever we want!”

The plump military wife raised an eyebrow, put her hands on her hips, and pointed at Liu Juan’s nose, scolding her:

“Oh, so you dare call us shrews? Even shrews are better than you, a vixen. It’s one thing to pursue freedom, but you’ve lost all sense of shame! You’ve become a whore and still want to build a reputation? Hmph! You’re nothing but a shameless woman!”

“You… you all… I’m going to fight you!”

This was the first time Liu Juan had ever been called a shameless woman to her face. Coming from someone who had been pampered and cherished her whole life, it was simply unbearable.

Liu Juan ran up and grabbed the plump military wife’s hair to start a fight. The plump military wife wasn’t someone to be easily provoked either. She yanked Liu Juan’s long braid, causing Liu Juan to tilt her head back in pain. Her face contorted in agony, and the other military wives were shocked. They quickly ran to inform the plump military wife’s husband.

The plump military wife’s husband, Luo Yechengg, was twenty-five years old and served as a battalion commander under Commander Shen. He came from a rural background, and his wife, An Xiuxiu, was twenty years old. The two had been betrothed as children in an arranged marriage. Luo Yechengg had married An Xiuxiu out of responsibility, not love.

Luo Yechengg rushed over angrily, shouting:

“An Xiuxiu, are you fighting again?”

Luo Yechengg grabbed An Xiuxiu and then glanced at Liu Juan, who was sitting on the ground, crying uncontrollably. He clenched his fist and coldly scolded her:

“An Xiuxiu, apologize to her!”

“I won’t! She came at me first! Why should I apologize?”

An Xiuxiu, though from the countryside, had been doted on by her family and had never suffered any hardship. However, since she had come here with the military, Luo Yechengg either shouted at her or scolded her. She could tell that her husband didn’t like her; he had only married her because of responsibility.

Liu Juan, disheveled and crying bitterly, suddenly stood up and ran toward the nearby lake, threatening to commit suicide. Luo Yechengg rushed to stop her, fearing that something might really happen and that they would be blamed for it.

However, when An Xiuxiu saw this scene, it infuriated her. Luo Yechengg was holding Liu Juan back to prevent her from jumping, while Liu Juan was sobbing uncontrollably in his arms.

An Xiuxiu, enraged and losing her sense of reason, stormed over and yanked Liu Juan’s hair back.

“Ah…”

Liu Juan, caught off guard, fell to the ground. An Xiuxiu sat on top of Liu Juan and slapped her face hard with both hands, shouting:

“Shameless woman! You vixen dare to seduce my man. I’ll kill you, you vixen!”

“An Xiuxiu!” Luo Yechengg was furious, and with a roar, he pulled her away and slapped her across the face.

An Xiuxiu was stunned by the slap. Her face was left with a red handprint as she stared blankly at Luo Yechengg. The people around them were shocked too. Luo Yechengg looked at his hand, now reddened from the slap, and reached out to help An Xiuxiu up.

An Xiuxiu pushed him away and shouted angrily:

“Divorce! I want to divorce you!”
