Chapter 3: The Space
Jiang’s father and mother were caught off guard by their daughter’s actions. Jiang’s mother sighed deeply.
“Why didn’t you discuss it with us? You just divorced without a second thought. You’re a woman, and you’re divorced with a child—what are you going to do in the future?”
“I’ll manage. I’ll earn my own money and raise the kids. I won’t rely on anyone else!”
“It’s easier said than done. You’re pregnant now, and with children, it’s going to be hard to find another partner.”
“I don’t need a partner. Why would I want someone just to have them sit at home and expect me to serve them?”
“You…”
Jiang’s mother was speechless, frustrated. If her daughter weren’t pregnant, it would be easier for her to find a partner. But with children, it was much harder. She was only 20—could she stay single forever? What would happen when the kids grew up and left? Would she end up lonely for the rest of her life?
No. Jiang’s mother paced back and forth in agitation. Both Jiang’s father and grandfather were also worried, sighing repeatedly.
In the evening, after dinner, Jiang’s mother went to her room to lie down. Jiang’s father tried to comfort her.
“Enough, don’t think about it anymore. Our daughter is here with us. We’ll take care of her. It’s not the end of the world. Divorce isn’t the same as life and death.”
“What do you know!” Jiang’s mother sat up, “What makes me angry is that she’s pregnant and still got divorced. If she weren’t pregnant, we could just find her another partner. But with children, it’s much harder.”
“Then what should we do? She’s already divorced.”
“Forget it. Let’s sleep now. I can’t handle this right now. This child is driving me crazy!”
Jiang Banyue closed the door behind her and quickly entered the space. The space was something she had accidentally obtained in her previous world. Inside, there was a large villa. No matter what was put inside, when taken out, it remained the same.
She had always had the habit of stockpiling goods. She had bought a lot of things at the supermarket—food, clothes, everyday items—anything you could think of. She discovered that when things were used up, they would automatically replenish, almost like a portable, personal supermarket.
The villa had a large kitchen, which was her favorite place. Inside the kitchen, there was a giant double-door refrigerator packed with all kinds of food. Next to the fridge, there was a counter where she specifically made cakes.
Nearby, there was an oven, an electric mixer, a cake turntable, and various tools for baking cakes.
The cabinets in the kitchen were filled with all kinds of flour and cooking oil. Since she made so many cakes, she went through flour quickly, so she directly ordered 100 kilograms from a flour mill. She also stocked up on 50 boxes of cooking oil, all stored in the villa’s basement.
In front of the villa, there was a large plot of land where various vegetables and fruits were grown. Once they matured, she could pick and eat them. After eating, they would cleanse the body of impurities, promote longevity, and improve health.
Jiang Banyue picked a peach and ate it bite by bite. After finishing it, her body began to expel dark impurities, which was quite disgusting. She quickly walked into the villa’s bathroom. The bathroom had an enormous bathtub, and beside it were various expensive shower gels and shampoos.
Jiang Banyue stripped off her clothes, turned on the faucet, and slowly filled the bathtub with water. There was also a showerhead nearby. She stood beneath it, slowly rinsing off the impurities from her body. Once cleaned, she stepped into the bathtub.
Her body slid into the water, and she reached out to squeeze some shower gel into the water. She gently stirred it, creating a lot of bubbles. Jiang Banyue’s playful side came out, and she cupped the bubbles in her hands, gently blowing them into the air.
Her snow-white skin was flushed pink from the warm water. After soaking, Jiang Banyue stood up from the bathtub and walked to the mirror. The woman in the mirror had fair skin, a soft, rounded belly, waist-length, jet-black hair, and a chubby face. Her eyebrows were like willow leaves, her large eyes sparkled brightly, and her delicate nose and cherry-red lips made her look even more charming.
After admiring her beautiful face, Jiang Banyue put on a white bathrobe and went to the bedroom to sleep. The large bed, measuring 2.2 meters, was covered with soft, white blankets. She lifted the blanket, lay down, and closed her eyes to sleep.
Meanwhile, Shen Yunhe, who was far away in the army, was on the phone with his grandfather.
“Zhi, where’s my granddaughter-in-law? Let her take the phone,” Shen Yunhe’s grandfather said.
Shen Yunhe sat on the couch, pinching his brow, troubled and unsure of what to do. His grandfather was especially fond of Jiang Banyue. He wondered if his grandfather would come to hit him with a cane when he found out he had divorced her.
The divorce had been swift, but now he regretted it. Why couldn’t he just bear it? After all, it was just an argument. What couple doesn’t argue? He wasn’t young anymore, and he had finally married a wife. Now, it felt like he was back to square one.
“Stupid kid, are you listening? Let me talk to my granddaughter-in-law!” his grandfather shouted.
“Grandfather, Banyue’s asleep,” Shen Yunhe lied helplessly, deciding to let it go for tonight.
His grandfather replied with a grunt, “Oh, she’s asleep. Fine, I’ll talk to her tomorrow.”
With a click, the call ended. Shen Yunhe put the phone down and relaxed, lying back on the couch. He stared blankly at the quiet home, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
He and Jiang Banyue had married because his grandfather had arranged it. When they first met, they quickly married, and after the wedding, Jiang Banyue had moved to the army with him. Their marriage had been arranged and wasn’t like the sweet, newlywed relationships others had. Instead, they treated each other with respect, never interfering with one another.
Even their first night together had been a muddled affair after he drank too much. After that, their relationship had grown more comfortable, transitioning into a life like that of an old married couple.
As he thought about the events that had happened, he realized that every time Liu Juan was involved, Jiang Banyue would get angry and argue with him. He had never had any private contact with Liu Juan, nor had he ever spoken to her in a way that would make her feel there was anything between them. So why did Jiang Banyue always suspect him and Liu Juan of having an affair?
The next morning, after breakfast, Jiang’s parents went to work. Jiang Banyue, after getting ready, took out a piece of paper and began drawing the design for the store renovation. The store would have two levels, with the first floor being the cake shop. She planned to have a large counter there. The second floor would have three bedrooms, with a bathroom.
The renovation workers her father found began working according to the design she had drawn. Jiang Banyue often came over to oversee the progress, as it would be her future home, and she was understandably concerned.
Her mother, worried about her pregnancy, took time off to accompany her. As they looked at the renovation, Jiang’s mother commented, “Why does the layout of this house look so strange? It’s so deep, like a well.” The more she looked, the stranger it seemed. “The house is just tall, so I divided it into two levels. It’ll look nice once the renovation is done,” Jiang Banyue explained.
