Chapter 47: Mommy is Angry
Early in the morning, Jiang Banyue left the house. She had opened a cake shop and was overseeing the renovations. Shen Yunhe stayed home to take care of the three children.
At seven o’clock, Shen Yunhe called the kids up for breakfast. Jiang Huaijin and Jiang Huaiyu got up obediently, but Jiang Huairou refused to get out of bed, burying herself under the blankets. Shen Yunhe patiently coaxed her while sitting on the edge of the bed.
“Baby, it’s time to get up. If you don’t wake up now, you’ll be late for school.”
Jiang Huairou ignored him and continued sleeping. Shen Yunhe called her several times without success, feeling a headache as he watched his daughter sleeping soundly. Sweat began to bead on his forehead from anxiety.
“Daddy, I’m going to be late for school! Hurry up!” Jiang Huaiyu glanced at the clock on the wall; it was seven fifty.
While his son urged him anxiously, his daughter was still asleep.
With no other choice, Shen Yunhe decided to send the two sons to school first, worried about his daughter who was sleeping alone at home. He dropped the boys off at the school gate and rushed back.
As soon as he entered the house, he saw his daughter was still asleep. He went to the kitchen to wash the dishes and then grabbed a mop to clean the floor.
“Daddy, I’m hungry.”
His daughter’s voice came from the bedroom. Shen Yunhe put down the mop and quickly walked to the bedroom, where Jiang Huairou was sitting up in bed, rubbing her belly.
“Daddy, I want to eat. I’m hungry.”
“Okay, you get dressed first, and Daddy will make you breakfast.”
“Okay.” Jiang Huairou got dressed and went to the living room.
“Daddy, where did my brothers go?”
“They went to school.” Shen Yunhe quickly scrambled eggs in the pan, added tomatoes, and soon made a bowl of tomato and egg noodles.
“Ah! I overslept!” Jiang Huairou exclaimed excitedly, bouncing on the sofa. “I don’t have to go to school!”
Jiang Banyue glared at him, returned to the living room, threw her bag on the sofa, and angrily went upstairs.
“Daddy, I’m scared. Mommy is angry.”
“It’s okay, Mommy is angry at Daddy, it has nothing to do with you. You can play for a while, and Daddy will go up and comfort Mommy.”
“Okay.”
Shen Yunhe went upstairs with a heavy heart, walked into Jiang Banyue’s room, and saw her sitting on the bed, angry. He nervously apologized:
“I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. I haven’t seen the kids for too long and always wanted to please them to make them happy.”
Jiang Banyue coldly reprimanded:
“This isn’t love; it’s harming them. The children don’t understand right from wrong. If you cater to them in everything, it will easily make them selfish and self-centered. Spoiling them is like killing them!”
Shen Yunhe quickly raised his hand and swore, “I promise, this is the last time. There will not be a next time!”
Jiang Banyue finally understood why the three children had developed such personalities in their previous life; it turned out this father was also spoiling them.
Jiang Banyue felt her anger rising. She wanted to kick this man out, but the kids couldn’t live without him, and this house was bought with his money.
She glanced at the clock on the wall; it was past eleven, almost time for the kids to get out of school. She could only suppress her anger.
“You go pick up the kids from school. I’ll go downstairs to cook!”
Jiang Banyue expressionlessly went downstairs, and Shen Yunhe anxiously followed behind. It seemed he had upset her again; what was he to do?
Downstairs, Jiang Huairou was playing with her toys absentmindedly. When she saw her parents coming down, she quickly threw her toy aside and ran to her mother, tugging at her hand and acting cute.
“Mommy, I’m sorry. I was wrong. Please don’t be angry!”
Jiang Banyue looked down at her clever daughter, feeling a wave of frustration. She just wanted to educate the three kids properly; why was it so difficult? This daughter didn’t like studying, was playful, and when she made mistakes, she would act cute and charming, with a whole bunch of issues.
None of the three kids were easy to handle. The eldest had psychological issues, the second was hyperactive and loved to cause trouble, and the youngest was spoiled and willful. What sins had she committed in her last life to have given birth to these three troublesome kids?
The more Jiang Banyue thought about it, the more frustrated she became, and her expression turned heavy and irritated. Jiang Huairou was scared and almost cried.
“Mommy, I promise I’ll be good and go to school. Please don’t be angry.”
Shen Yunhe, watching his daughter’s cautious demeanor, felt a pang of heartache and quickly walked over to hug her.
“It’s Daddy’s fault; it has nothing to do with you.”
Jiang Banyue was so angry she wanted to hit someone, shouting:
“Just keep spoiling them! Sooner or later, you’ll spoil them all! By then, it’ll be too late for you to regret!”
Shen Yunhe anxiously explained:
“I’m not spoiling the kids. Adults have tempers; don’t take it out on the kids. It can easily affect their mental health.”
Jiang Banyue shot him a glare and angrily went to the kitchen to cook. Jiang Huairou quietly cried in her father’s arms.
“Daddy, I know I was wrong. I really know I was wrong. I won’t sleep in anymore; I’ll definitely get up early to go to school. You go talk to Mommy and let her not be angry. I’m scared, woo woo woo…”
Shen Yunhe comforted his daughter with a heavy heart.
“Baby, don’t cry. Mommy isn’t angry at you. Daddy will take you to pick up your brothers from school, okay?”
“Mm.” Jiang Huairou nodded with red eyes.
Shen Yunhe placed his daughter in the back seat of the car and drove to pick up his sons. All the way, he kept looking at his daughter in the rearview mirror. She sat quietly in the car, staring blankly out the window, not knowing what she was thinking.
Shen Yunhe felt a lump in his throat, not wanting to see his daughter so quiet.
At the school gate, Shen Yunhe got out of the car and waited for his son. He stood outside the car, looking at his daughter inside the vehicle.
“Rou, do you want to come down and play for a while?”
Jiang Huairou shook her head. Shen Yunhe sighed and gently patted her head.
“Don’t be upset, your mom loves you very much!”
“Dad, am I too clueless? All these years, mom has been raising the three of us on her own, working hard to earn money and support the family. She’s really tired and has suffered a lot, but I’ve been making her angry all the time.”
“Sweetheart, don’t think like that. You’re all good children. It’s my fault. I didn’t take good care of you and your mom, making her suffer.”
Shen Yunhe felt that he was truly content in this life with these three children by his side. The eldest was well-behaved and understanding, the second was lively and cheerful, and the third was smart and cute. Who else was as fortunate as he was? A son and a daughter—ah! If Jiang Banyue could remarry him, his life would be complete.
The school bell rang, signaling the end of classes. His two sons, carrying their backpacks, came out. Jiang Huaiyu saw his father waiting and excitedly ran over, hugging him.
“Dad! Dad…”
Shen Yunhe slightly bent down, smiling, and picked up his son, then reached for his eldest son’s hand.
“This is my dad. My dad came to pick me up…” Jiang Huaiyu happily introduced his father to his classmates.
The classmates looked up at him enviously. “Wow! Jiang Huaiyu, your dad is so tall! He’s holding you up so high!”
Jiang Huaiyu proudly lifted his chin.
“Hmph! Of course! When I grow up, I want to be as tall as my dad!”
Shen Yunhe laughed, watching his mischievous son, and carried him toward the car under the envious gazes of the classmates.
