Chapter 69: Fights at the Night Market
Shen Yunhe was driving slowly down the road, anxiously looking around.
“Su Jian, where on earth have you gone?”
On the way, he ran into two human traffickers. Shen Yunhe got out of the car to check, and both men were dead. One was lying on the ground with a deep cut to his neck, blood spilling everywhere. The other was in a van, with a wire tightly around his neck. He was already dead. Shen Yunhe used a phone booth by the side of the road to call the police.
After the police arrived and got the details, he anxiously left and continued driving to find Su Jian.
Meanwhile, Su Jian was walking along and playing. Up ahead, she saw a lively night market, bustling with people. She ran over, her mouth watering as she looked at all the delicious food. Everything smelled so good, she wanted to eat it all.
Rice noodles, vermicelli, all sorts of fried skewers, spicy hot pot, stinky tofu, wontons—seeing all of it made her incredibly hungry.
She patted her pocket, which was even emptier than her face. She squatted down on the side, watching longingly as others ate. At one of the stalls, there were three or five men, looking like troublemakers, eyeing Su Jian with ill intent. They exchanged lewd smiles.
One man, wearing a big gold chain and sporting messy yellow hair, swaggered over, tilting his head and teasing her.
“Little sister, want some delicious food? Big brother will treat you. You come drink with me for a while, what do you think?”
Su Jian wrinkled her nose as she smelled the strong stench of alcohol on him. Frowning, she stood up, took a few steps back, and turned to leave. But a few more men surrounded her, threatening her.
“Little sister, I advise you to listen to Big Brother. Don’t refuse the drink, or it’ll be a punishment!”
Su Jian clenched her fists, her body trembling with excitement. Were these people trying to pick a fight with her? How thrilling! She didn’t want to get into a fight, but bad people always seemed to find her. She had no choice!
Without saying a word, Su Jian took a long knife out of her space and swung it at the man who was blocking her. The man didn’t react in time, and the blade struck his shoulder, causing blood to spill everywhere. He fell to his knees in agony, clutching his shoulder.
“Ahhh… you bitch, ah! I’ll kill you!”
The other men quickly reacted, rushing to their seats to grab long knives and sticks from under the table to attack Su Jian. Su Jian retaliated by slashing back, growing more and more excited as the fight continued. People at the stalls scattered in fear.
“Haha, come on! Keep coming! This is so much fun!”
The man holding the knife spat, tilted his head, and sneered.
“Damn it, where did this crazy woman come from?”
“You’re the crazy one, dare to insult me? I’ll kill you!”
Su Jian wildly swung her knife, laughing maniacally. The men, seeing her frenzied state, were too terrified to approach. A few of the braver ones threw down their sticks and ran away.
The lead man cursed loudly, “Damn it, you cowards, come back!”
The men who were running shouted as they fled.
“She’s a psycho! If I fight her, she’ll be fine, but I’ll be the one in trouble!”
Su Jian had wounded several of the men, and her body was splattered with blood. She casually wiped the blood from her face and happily swung the large knife in her hand.
“Come on, come on! Let’s keep going! This is so much fun!”
The man wearing the big gold chain was also scared out of his wits. Seeing Su Jian’s reckless attacks, his legs trembled.
“Damn it, this crazy woman is really insane!”
At this moment, a police car arrived, and several police officers got out. The surrounding crowd had called the police. The officers quickly subdued the men causing trouble.
The troublemakers yelled in protest.
“Officer, it’s this woman! She attacked us first! Look at the cuts on our bodies!”
Su Jian saw the police arrive, quickly stored the long knife back into her space, and with tears in her eyes, she pitifully complained.
“Wuwuwu… Officer, save me! They’re trying to kill me, it’s so scary!”
“Don’t worry, miss. We’ll arrest them, they won’t hurt you anymore!”
The crowd gathered around, commenting one after another.
“This girl was minding her own business when these men surrounded and harassed her. They’re such bad people!”
“That’s right, even if she fought back just now, it was self-defense!”
The man with the big gold chain was furious, cursing loudly.
“Are you blind? We were the ones being pressed and attacked by her! We’re all injured, and she has no injuries at all! Who’s the real victim here?!”
“Shut up, get in the car!”
The officer coldly glared at him and pushed him into the car. Su Jian was also taken back to the police station to give a statement. After recording her statement and signing it, they informed her to have someone come to pick her up. Su Jian reluctantly gave them Shen Yunhe’s name and information.
Sitting idly in a chair, waiting for him to come, after a while, Shen Yunhe rushed in, pulling her up and checking her from head to toe.
“How are you? Are you hurt?”
Su Jian lowered her head, feeling guilty, and just as she was about to speak, the officer walked over and talked to Shen Yunhe.
“Hello, may I ask, who are you to her?”
“Hello, I’m Shen Yunhe, her husband.”
“Okay, come over here, sign this, and you can take her home.”
“Alright.”
After Shen Yunhe signed, he took Su Jian’s hand and left the police station. Once in the car, he buckled her seatbelt.
“Are you hungry? I’ll buy you some food to take home.”
“You’re not mad at me?” Su Jian looked at him, confused. She thought he would scold her again.
Shen Yunhe sighed helplessly and smiled.
“You want me to scold you? Then you’ll just resist, run away again, and I’ll keep chasing you. It’ll never end, right?”
Su Jian glared at him, not pleased.
“Who says that! I’m not that unreasonable!”
Shen Yunhe shook his head, driving to the night market to buy her food. Once back at the market, Su Jian confidently pointed to the various fried skewers.
“This, this, and this! Give me one of each!”
Shen Yunhe frowned and looked at her.
“You’re going to eat so much at this hour? You’ll get a stomachache.”
“Don’t you want to buy it for me?” Su Jian looked at him with a pitiful expression.
Shen Yunhe patiently tried to persuade her.
“Eat less at night, too much will hurt your stomach. If you really like it, we can come again next time!”
Jiang Banyue never ate junk food like this, so he wasn’t sure if her stomach could handle it.
After buying the food, Shen Yunhe drove back home. It was already past one in the morning, and he wondered how things were at home.
Su Jian happily ate in the car, holding a skewer of grilled gluten in her left hand and a skewer of stinky tofu in her right. She bit into the grilled gluten and then the stinky tofu, savoring the delicious taste.
Shen Yunhe glanced at her and, without saying anything, took a napkin from the car and handed it to her, shaking his head and smiling helplessly.
“Wipe your mouth, it’s all greasy. You’re like a little kid.”
Su Jian put the skewers together, took the napkin, and wiped her mouth carelessly before putting it in the bag.
Shen Yunhe looked over and saw her face covered in grease, even more so after wiping. He pulled the car over to the side of the road, took out another napkin, and seriously wiped her face clean. Taking the skewers from her hand, he put them in the bag and carefully wiped her hands as well.
