Chapter 75: Remarriage
As Shen Yunhe was thinking, he heard soft crying. His heart ached, and he walked over to the window to hold Jiang Banyue in his arms, kissing her.
“Wife, don’t cry, it hurts me.”
Jiang Banyue, feeling wronged, couldn’t control herself. She cried as she hit him.
“I hate you. When you weren’t home, Liu Juan would often come to see me and talk about our issues. I kept telling myself not to believe her, to trust you, I had to believe you. But over time, it was hard not to feel uncomfortable, to doubt, and I didn’t dare ask you. Sometimes, I really hate myself for feeling this way.”
Shen Yunhe felt a sharp pain in his chest. He had never realized that Jiang Banyue was carrying so much inside her. She was introverted and sensitive. Neither of them was very expressive, which had led to a lot of misunderstandings between them.
“Wife, I promise you, I haven’t done anything to betray you. I only love my wife. You are the only one in my heart, no one else. Trust me, I love you.”
Tears fell from Jiang Banyue’s eyes, and she was deeply hurt by the thought of the divorce. “Why did we get divorced?”
Shen Yunhe didn’t know how to answer and didn’t want to lie to her. Seeing his silence, Jiang Banyue, in her frustration, pushed him away and ran toward the door.
“Wife…” Shen Yunhe hugged her from behind, but she struggled to break free.
“Let go of me!”
“I won’t let go. I have to tell you everything,” Shen Yunhe said, his throat tight as he choked on his words. “When you were sick, there was another Jiang Banyue inside you. As soon as she appeared, she insisted on a divorce. At the time, I didn’t realize that your body was going through problems. She insisted on the divorce, and I could only agree. Wife, I’m so sorry. It’s my fault. I didn’t care for you enough, and I didn’t notice the problems with your health earlier.”
“Is everything you’re saying true?” Jiang Banyue couldn’t believe it. “What exactly is wrong with my body? Why is there another person inside me?”
“You have dissociative identity disorder. I’m looking for a psychologist to treat you, and you will get better.”
Jiang Banyue calmed down in his arms. “What is the other me like?”
“She’s just like you, very gentle, but sometimes has a bad temper. She suffers from depression and her mental state hasn’t been good. Over the years, she has been the one taking care of the kids. She’s very tired. She runs a bakery on her own, waking up at five in the morning to make cakes, while also taking care of the three children. She’s been busy from dawn until night, never having a moment to rest. The kids can also be mischievous and cause her a lot of stress.”
Shen Yunhe’s heart ached as he spoke. In his heart, all three versions of Jiang Banyue were the same person—his wife.
Jiang Banyue listened, feeling heartbroken. Tears uncontrollably flowed from her eyes as she pressed her hand to her chest, feeling a heavy, painful sensation.
“Was she not happy? Why isn’t the other me happy? Yunhe, my heart hurts so much!”
Shen Yunhe, deeply pained, hugged her tightly.
“She’s happy. She has three kids to accompany her, and she’s very happy. Also, inside your body, there’s a happy version of you, named Su Jian. She lives life joyfully, loves going out to play, enjoys all kinds of delicious food, and when someone bullies her, she fights back. She never lets anyone push her around.”
“Su Jian?” Jiang Banyue felt the name was familiar but couldn’t recall where she had heard it.
Shen Yunhe held her closely, gently lowering his head to kiss her.
“Wife, how about we go and remarry tomorrow?”
Jiang Banyue pushed him away. “How could I possibly get married when I can’t even control my own body? It’s better that we stay divorced, so I won’t burden you.”
“Why would you think like that? We’re married. You’re the mother of my children, you’re my wife. It’s my duty to take care of you and look after you. You’ve never been a burden. You are the person I love the most.”
“Let’s wait, okay? Wait until I’m back to normal, and then we can remarry.” Jiang Banyue thought about her unstable condition and directly rejected his proposal.
“Wife, I can’t wait. I want to remarry you now. Even for the children’s sake, we can’t drag this on any longer.”
“But I…” Jiang Banyue was torn inside, wanting to remarry but full of concerns.
Shen Yunhe hugged her, pressing her head against his chest, and lowered his head to kiss her. Jiang Banyue had no choice but to lift her head and kiss him back.
“Wife, will you marry me again?”
“Mm.” Jiang Banyue’s face turned red, and she wrapped her arms around his waist, burying her head in his chest.
Shen Yunhe happily picked her up and spun around. “Really? You agreed? This is wonderful!”
Hand in hand, they walked outside, where Jiang Mother and the children gathered around. Jiang Banyue released his hand and hugged her mother.
“Mom, I’m sorry for worrying you. I’ve decided to remarry Yunhe, and after that, I’ll go with him to follow the army with the children.”
Jiang Mother smiled in relief.
“Good, that’s great! It’s about time. From now on, live a good life. No more causing trouble.”
“Got it.”
The children happily ran up, eager to hug their parents.
“Are you really going to remarry, Mom and Dad? That’s awesome!”
“From now on, we’ll be with Mom and Dad, and we’ll never be separated again!”
Jiang Banyue and Shen Yunhe hugged their three children, laughing and making a joyful scene.
The next morning, bright and early, Jiang Banyue and Shen Yunhe rushed to the Civil Affairs Bureau to handle the remarriage procedure. Shen Yunhe had been too excited to sleep the night before and had faint dark circles under his eyes.
Jiang Banyue gently pressed her finger on his dark circles, her face flushed as she lightly scolded him.
“I told you not to stay up late last night. Now you look tired for the photo.”
Shen Yunhe, filled with joy, was in high spirits. He tightly held his wife’s hand, lowering his head to talk to her.
“Who’s tired? I feel great!”
The staff at the front desk called out their names, and the two of them walked forward hand in hand. Behind them, a divorced couple started arguing and accidentally bumped into Jiang Banyue.
“Ah!”
“Wife!”
Shen Yunhe quickly pulled her into his arms, and Jiang Banyue’s head collided with his chest. She pressed her hand to her head and closed her eyes, feeling dizzy. When she opened her eyes again, she looked around the Civil Affairs Bureau with a confused gaze.
“Where is this?”
When Shen Yunhe heard her question, his heart sank. The feeling of suffocation and suppression overwhelmed him. His voice trembled as he asked,
“Who are you?”
Jiang Banyue raised her head. “Shen Yunhe, why is it you? I’m Jiang Banyue!”
Shen Yunhe closed his eyes in pain, clenched his fists, holding back his emotions. His throat tightened.
“Why did you have to appear now? Why couldn’t you have waited a little longer? Because of you, my wife and I were forced to divorce and couldn’t stay together. Now, after all the difficulties, we’re finally remarrying, and you come out to stop us!”
Jiang Banyue was confused by his shouting, and she was also angry. “What are you talking about? I don’t understand a word of it.”
Shen Yunhe knew that the remarriage was no longer going to happen. He pulled Jiang Banyue back, but she was so angry that she struggled to break free.
“Shen Yunhe, what are you doing? Let go of me!”
