Chapter 34: I Am Her Dog
Lu Hui never expected to see Yan Zhao here, the one she thought was too noble and aloof to associate with the entertainment industry.
The crew knew about the rumors between Yan Zhao and Lu Hui and saw an opportunity for drama, especially considering how Lu Hui had previously ignored his advances.
The directors had anticipated that Lu Hui would be upset, but surprisingly, she reacted with calm indifference. There was no anger, no confrontation. She simply accepted the arrangement.
The director felt disappointed. If they couldn’t provoke a scene, how would they create a hot topic?

The director, trying to stir the pot, asked, “Teacher Lu, you don’t mind, do you?”
Lu Hui saw through their plan, forcing a sweet smile, “I don’t mind.”
The director didn’t look convinced, forcing a smile himself, “That’s good.”
Ugh, they were desperate for drama.
But Lu Hui didn’t follow their script. Once the plane took off, she adjusted her seat, put on an eye mask, and comfortably fell asleep.
The director, peeking through the gap between the seats, was dying to yell, “How can you sleep now?”
She wasn’t just sleeping, she was sleeping soundly, and the soft snoring echoed in everyone’s ears, leaving them with mixed feelings.
Yan Zhao didn’t speak, his brow furrowed in silence, his expression cold.
He hated flying. It was too troublesome.
If it weren’t for the circumstances, he’d prefer to fly by sword.
The flight would take two and a half hours, and the temperature on the plane was low. Other passengers started covering themselves with blankets, but Yan Zhao wasn’t bothered by the cold. He glanced at the sleeping woman beside him, paused for three seconds, and called over a flight attendant to ask for a blanket, gently placing it over her.
The director, who had been dozing off in the backseat, suddenly sat up straight, wide awake. He raised his elbow and nudged the cameraman next to him, whispering, “Quick, get a shot of this!”
This was material for the show.
The cameraman, holding a mirrorless camera, sneaked behind and found a good angle, quietly capturing the moment.
After they got off the plane, the production team quickly posted the photo on the official Weibo account, specially made for fan interactions. The caption read, “Guess which two newbie parents are these~”
The tone was playful and cheeky.
The photo was high-definition, but it only showed their backs, without even a profile view.
Despite this, the long-haired man’s silhouette was still easily recognizable. His cool and superior posture, even from behind, radiated an air of nobility.
“Damn! I know him! He’s a regular on another variety show. How did you guys manage to get this ice-cold handsome guy?”
“Think about it, who else on this show could make the ice-cold guy join in?”
“Show team, how many surprises do you have left? Keep them coming.”
“Quick, air the episode, air it now!”
The audience’s reaction was positive, at least this move had raised their expectations.
—
It was evening when Lu Hui and the production team got off the plane. The director, wanting to stir things up, handed the address of the recording location to Lu Hui along with her luggage. “The address is here. You guys figure out how to get there.”
The recording location was a self-built courtyard in a rural area in the south, slightly off the beaten path, hard to find, and inconvenient for public transport.
The director added, “Mr. Yan is a newbie and doesn’t know much, so please take good care of him, Lu Hui.”
Lu Hui, holding the address, replied, “I can be a newbie too.”
The director laughed awkwardly, “Lu Hui, you’re so funny, you’ve got such a variety show vibe.”
After assigning two cameramen to follow them, the director quickly left in a car.
Lu Hui’s suitcase was quite large, 21 inches, and it was a bit of a struggle to carry. Meanwhile, Yan Zhou had nothing in his hands—not even a phone.
Lu Hui sat on her suitcase, thoughtfully figuring out how to set off.
Yan Zhou didn’t take his eyes off her face. He watched her bite her lip, his throat subtly moved as he swallowed. After a moment, he asked, “Is it far?”
Lu Hui, not eager to talk to her former fiancé, responded coldly, “I’ve never been there, how would I know?”
Yan Zhou, seemingly unaware of the cameras filming them, didn’t appear to be joking. “I can fly you there.”
Lu Hui: “…”
She couldn’t be bothered to correct Yan Zhou’s comments, which would probably make him sound crazy.
One of the cameramen couldn’t help but laugh, shaking with laughter, his camera shaking in his hands.
The mystery was solved.
No wonder such a handsome guy couldn’t get the goddess—his brain didn’t seem to be functioning properly.
Yan Zhou shot a cold glance at the cameraman behind them, who instantly froze, afraid to move.
Yan Zhou extended his long fingers and took the paper from Lu Hui’s hand. He glanced at the address written on it, but even though he had learned the world’s language, he still didn’t know the way.
Lu Hui crossed her arms and enjoyed the show. “Are you going to lead the way?”
After a moment, Yan Zhou nodded. “I have gold, we can take a taxi.”
Lu Hui showed a grin, “Where did you get all that money?”
Yan Zhou, without hiding anything, answered, “I sold the treasures in my storage bag for gold and silver.”
Once upon a time, the treasures that could summon winds and rain in the cultivation world were now just fancy antiques here—useless, but very valuable.
The gold and silver he got would be enough to support his entire life.
He looked at her seriously, “Do you want it? I’ll give it all to you.”
Lu Hui: “I don’t want it.”
The two cameramen were starting to lose patience. This long-haired beauty seemed to have some sort of mental issue, speaking in an old-fashioned, poetic way like he thought he was still living in ancient times.
“Uh, Lu Hui, nowadays, shows don’t encourage flaunting wealth. It can backfire,” one of them kindly reminded her.
Lu Hui naturally understood.
Yan Zhou, treating the cameramen as if they were invisible, turned to Lu Hui and asked, “Do you want to fly with a sword, or take a car?”
His serious expression made it hard to tell if he was joking, “Flying with a sword is faster, but we’d have to have those two fat guys lead the way.”
Lu Hui took a deep breath. “Shut up.”
Just as she finished speaking, a vacant taxi arrived by the side of the road. Lu Hui waved it down and asked the driver to open the trunk. Before she could even move, Yan Zhou was a step ahead, effortlessly placing her suitcase into the trunk with one hand.
The four of them squeezed into the car, and it was a bit cramped.
One of the cameramen reminded, “According to the rules, we can’t use our own money during recording.”
Lu Hui replied, “I don’t follow the rules.”
They were speechless. Lu Hui’s nonchalant move to just take a taxi ruined any drama they had planned for the ride.
Lu Hui asked the driver, “How long will it take to get there?”
“About an hour and a half.”
“Thanks.”
That was quite far indeed. Although Lu Hui wasn’t tired, she decided to take a nap in the car.
She quietly leaned towards the door. Yan Zhou’s shoulder brushed against hers, but he didn’t disturb her, quietly watching her face, pondering whether she would be willing to go back with him.
His obsession with ascension had weakened, but his desire to spend a lifetime with her had never changed.
Lu Hui closed her eyes and soon fell into a deep sleep. The cameraman, still filming, pointed the camera at them. Yan Zhou’s face turned cold as he raised his hand to block the camera, coldly stating, “Stop filming.”
Let her rest.
His intense presence was intimidating, and the cameraman didn’t dare to meet his eyes. After a moment of awkward silence, the cameraman reluctantly closed the lens cap.
The cameraman, a man who can be quite chatty when bored, warmed up to the idea of striking up a conversation with the man beside him. He said, “Bro, you really like Teacher Lu, don’t you?”
Yan Zhao closed his eyes to rest, replying, “Mm.”
The cameraman, feeling chatty, continued, “Bro, you’ve been played.”
He sighed dramatically, “Ugh, we went to Teacher Lu’s place this morning to pick her up, and there was another man there.”
Yan Zhao remained silent.
The cameraman’s tone grew even more mournful, “I can tell you’re not doing badly, you don’t have to hang on to one tree. Don’t blame me for speaking harshly, Teacher Lu clearly doesn’t like you.”
Yan Zhao finally reacted, “Doesn’t like me?”
The cameraman felt like he was doing the right thing, “Yeah! You can tell from her gaze… you know what I mean.”
He couldn’t say it too harshly, as it might hurt the man’s pride.
When Teacher Lu looked at this handsome man, it was like looking at a stranger—she couldn’t even be bothered to raise her eyelids.
Yan Zhao shook his head, “She likes me. She would even give me her heart.”
What a load of nonsense.
This guy not only had a nervous breakdown but also suffered from delusions.
The taxi driver arrived at the location half an hour earlier, and when it was time to pay, Lu Hui didn’t pay a cent, leaving Yan Zhao to foot the bill.
Yan Zhao pulled a gold bar out of his pocket, “Is this enough?”
Lu Hui and the driver: “…”
Yan Zhao was so used to paying with gold that he didn’t even realize how odd it sounded.
In the end, the cameraman reluctantly paid the fare, muttering curses under his breath.
Lu Hui and Yan Zhao were the last guests to arrive at the recording site. Others had already arrived earlier as arranged by the production team.
This season’s new guest, a young rising star, had already established good rapport with the previous season’s veterans in just a few hours.
When Lu Hui entered, they were playing a game, and her greeting seemed to interrupt the fun, creating a bit of an awkward atmosphere.
One of the experienced actors, not fond of Lu Hui’s “promotional” persona, used the excuse of being tired to go upstairs and rest.
Yan Zhao stood behind her, carrying her luggage.
The director, upon hearing that they had taken a taxi, nearly choked on his surprise. Upon looking closely, he saw Yan Zhao, who had previously shown no interest in him, was now carrying Lu Hui’s luggage.
He couldn’t help but silently wonder, Is he really here to be Lu Hui’s dog?
Yan Zhao glanced over at him and replied coldly, “I am.”
Director: ???
Director: What the hell, that scared me to death! How could someone hear what others are thinking? Must be a coincidence. It’s just a coincidence.
