Chapter 9 The Emperor is Furious
The eunuch nodded, “Yes, Your Majesty.”
The emperor’s face, already flushed from holding his bladder, turned the color of pig liver, and his body trembled violently. “My palace has always been heavily guarded. Who on earth stole things from my palace?!”
The eunuch trembled, “Your servants don’t know. The soldiers guarding last night all fainted. When they woke up, everything was gone.”
“Unbelievable! Useless! All of you are useless!” The emperor clutched his chest, so angry that he almost couldn’t catch his breath.
The eunuch quickly got up and patted his back, “Your Majesty, please don’t be angry.”
The emperor’s brows furrowed into a knot. He pressed his aching chest, his anger burning, “These bandits, how dare they! They are humiliating me! Humiliating me!”
He said, coughing violently.
The eunuch beside him dared not persuade him anymore.
“Someone! Go and investigate! You must find those scoundrels for me! I will have them torn limb from limb!” The emperor was getting angrier and angrier, his body trembling as he slammed his fist on the table.
It was fine before he slammed the table, but after he did, the emperor’s bladder couldn’t hold it anymore. A stream of urine followed the sound of the slam, flowing out with a whoosh.
The guards outside the door all looked at him.
The entire hall fell silent.
The fearless eunuch sniffed and said, “Your Majesty, do you smell something strange?”
The emperor, who had been petrified, was instantly furious. He kicked the eunuch, “Go and investigate! Find those scoundrels within three days! Quickly!”
As soon as he finished speaking, the guards in the palace dared not stare anymore. They quickly responded in unison and rushed out.
The emperor hadn’t had time to change his clothes when he heard the news from Prime Minister Wan, “What? The Fu family has all run away?!”
The messenger lowered his head and replied, “Yes, Your Majesty. Not only have they all run away, but the entire Fu mansion is empty, even…”
The emperor’s face turned pale, and he shouted, “Even what?!”
The guard quickly knelt down and said, “Even a single bed sheet is gone!”
The emperor was already trembling with anger. Hearing this, he ignored his wet pants and stood up straight, shouting with all his might, “Don’t you dare delay! Chase them!”
The guards were startled and quickly responded, “Yes, Your Majesty.”
“They ran away! They actually ran away from me! How dare they!” The emperor muttered to himself, his lips trembling, before collapsing onto the dragon throne.
As the saying goes, “Trying to steal the chicken but losing the rice,” that’s what happened.
Prime Minister Wan, the emperor, and Minister of Rites Chu had originally planned to conspire to confiscate the Fu family’s vast wealth. But not only did they not get a single copper coin from the Fu family, but their own backyards were also robbed.
For a time, the entire capital was in chaos.
The streets and roads were full of soldiers, searching for bandits everywhere. In the end, only a thousand people were left to pursue the Fu family.
They split into three groups and chased after the Fu family.
The Fu family, on the other hand, rode their horses as fast as they could towards Zanyang County, which was dozens of kilometers away.
Marquis Fu had originally wanted to go to Cangshan County, which was a little further north, but at the suggestion of Chu Chenyin and Fu Yanting, they went to Zanyang County.
Zanyang County was known as the land of fish and rice, one of the most prosperous places in the Dayong Kingdom.
Ten days later, fire stones would fall from the sky in the capital, and over ten counties surrounding the capital would be affected by the fire. At that time, the fire would rage across the sky, and people would flee in all directions.
Zanyang County was at least two hundred kilometers away from where the fire stones would land. They could not only avoid the fire there, but they could also stock up on more food.
It’s the closest and most suitable place to settle down for now.
Chu Chenyin and Fu Yanting sat in front of the carriage, driving the carriage and letting the old carriage driver, Li, rest.
The horse had been traveling for a day and a night, breathing heavily, clearly tired.
Chu Chenyin looked up at the distance, a vast expanse of blue sky beyond the dense forest.
Indeed, the ancient environment was better, no haze at all.
She sighed in her heart and turned to Fu Yanting beside her, “General, how much longer until we reach Zanyang County?”
Fu Yanting held the reins and looked ahead, his deep eyes slightly closed, “Soon, we should reach the county gate before nightfall.”
Chu Chenyin breathed a sigh of relief. After being jostled around in the carriage for so long, she was about to throw up if they didn’t arrive soon.
Thinking about it, Chu Chenyin suddenly felt thirsty. She immediately took advantage of the fact that the Fu family was all in the carriage and secretly went to the space, taking two cans of cola from the supermarket on the first floor of the space.
She handed one to Fu Yanting, “General, have some water.”
Fu Yanting looked sideways at the blue can, puzzled, “What is this?”
Chu Chenyin smiled and opened the can, handing the fizzy cola back to Fu Yanting, “It’s happy water from our place. Try it, it’s very refreshing.”
Fu Yanting frowned slightly, puzzled for a moment before taking it from her hand and taking a sip.
After that sip, Fu Yanting fell silent.
Most people are a little unaccustomed to drinking cola for the first time. Chu Chenyin looked at his expression and couldn’t help but laugh, “What’s wrong? Don’t you like it?”
Fu Yanting tightened the reins in his hand, looking ahead while replying, “It’s sweet, like sugar water, but…”
“But what?” Chu Chenyin opened her own can and took a sip.
Fu Yanting, in a more serious tone than usual, said slowly, “But it’s a little spicy on the tongue…”
Chu Chenyin secretly laughed in her heart. Sure enough, ancient people couldn’t get used to this stuff.
However, at that moment, Fu Yanting suddenly picked up the cola and gulped it down in one go.
After finishing it, he didn’t forget to crush the can and throw it into the distance. When he sat down, he raised his eyebrows, “Spicy, but it’s not bad, better than water.”
He then glanced at Chu Chenyin, “Do you have any more?”
Chu Chenyin was stunned by his actions. This man’s adaptability was not ordinary.
It was extremely strong.
She looked at him sideways, silently clutching the cola in her hand, then took a sip, “No more!”
She wasn’t going to let anyone share with her.
Fu Yanting looked ahead and laughed heartily, “Little lady, you’re guarding your food jealously! Your husband won’t drink anymore!”
He said, and continued driving the carriage.
As the carriage continued forward, Fu Yanting’s expression gradually became serious.
“Giddy up!” He tightened the reins and slapped the horse’s back, making the horse run faster.
The carriage jolted violently, and Chu Chenyin swayed, falling onto Fu Yanting. She quickly grabbed his arm and glanced behind her, “Are there pursuers?!”
Fu Yanting frowned slightly and nodded, “Yes.”
