Chapter 117: Reconciliation
“I see you as my dear sister, yet you wish to marry me…”
In the dining room, Yagi Miyuki was scratching his head in distress, unsure of what to do.
He was facing a difficult problem now – his sister liked him too much. As a brother who considered himself a bit of a sis-con, it was naturally a joy to be liked by his sister. But he never fancied the idea of marrying her.
Yagi Miyuki’s face showed guilt. His current emotions were as complex as a tangled ball of yarn. He was also wrong yesterday for telling such a dismissive lie, which might have been too hurtful.
“Anyway… I should first go and comfort Michako. I can’t ignore her in this state,” Yagi Miyuki thought, recalling the heartbroken expression on Michako’s face as she turned away.
Of course, accepting Michako’s feelings was out of the question. Aside from the fact that their father would probably send him to Germany to study if he did, he couldn’t get past his own inner barrier about it.
Thinking this, Yagi Miyuki tidied up the dining table and washed the dishes, then headed to Michako’s room.
He knocked gently on the door and softly said, “Michako, can brother come in?”
There was no response from inside the room, which made Yagi Miyuki frown. He continued softly, “Don’t you want to talk to your brother?”
Again, silence ensued.
“Well… I’m coming in now,” Yagi Miyuki said, shaking his head and pushing the door open.
The room was dark, as the thick curtains were fully drawn, making it nearly impossible for the faint evening light to penetrate, giving the room an appearance of nighttime.
“Michako?”
Standing at the doorway, Yagi Miyuki could barely make out a small figure curled up in the corner of the bed, seemingly asleep.
But before Yagi Miyuki could speak, the small figure in the corner trembled slightly, and a voice, seemingly suppressing tears, broke the silence: “I’m sorry, brother, I can’t be calm right now. Can you give me some time? Just for tonight, I’ll be back to how I was before by tomorrow morning, please.”
Back to how she was before? Did she mean like half a month ago or earlier?
Yagi Miyuki rubbed his head, not saying a word, turned on the light switch on the wall, and gently closed the door behind him.
He walked slowly to the bed and sat down, looking at the small figure in the corner, only a head visible outside the blanket, turned away from him. He sighed softly.

At that moment, Yagi Miyuki decided to switch his role from a brother to a father-like figure. His daughter with problematic thoughts needed soothing before considering any discipline.
“Michako,” Yagi Miyuki said gently, caressing his sister’s head as if petting a cat, softly speaking, “Are you angry with your brother?”
There was no response from Michako, who didn’t seem to acknowledge him at all. Yagi Miyuki, unfazed and patient, continued, “I was wrong yesterday. I shouldn’t have lied to you. I’m sorry.”
Michako trembled slightly under his touch, then shyly withdrew, avoiding his hand. After a moment, her voice cracked, “Please… turn off the light.”
“Alright,” Yagi Miyuki quickly obliged, turning off the light switch, plunging the room back into darkness.
When he returned to the bed, Michako’s soft, fragile body squeezed into his arms. She wrapped her slender arms around his waist, transferring her warmth to him through the thin fabric. Yagi Miyuki, surprised at first, eventually wrapped his arms around her, patting her back in comfort.
“Brother, you’re not… angry with me, are you?” Michako, her head buried in his chest, clutched his shirt as if afraid of being abandoned, asked timidly.
Yagi Miyuki felt a tug at his heart and softly replied, “Silly, how could I be angry with you?”
“Really?” Michako’s voice sounded tearful, “Earlier, brother… your tone was so frightening. You were actually angry, right?”
“I told you, I’m not angry,” Yagi Miyuki reassured her, stroking her head. “Michako, such a lovely sister, I like you the most.”
From a family perspective, it was perfectly fine for a brother to love his sister.
“Then… you won’t leave me, right? I thought you hated me earlier… I’m sorry for crying in front of you. If you ignore me… I might think of dying.”
Yagi Miyuki frowned slightly at her words and lightly tapped her head, “You shouldn’t say such things; I might really get angry.”
“I’m sorry,” Michako apologized timidly.
Hearing her apology, Yagi Miyuki’s heart softened, and he hugged her tighter, saying warmly, “Don’t be so cautious, I’m not used to it. And how could I ever ignore you? You’re overthinking, Michako.”
“Okay…” Michako responded softly.

It seems his words had an effect. Michako, who had been tightly clinging to him in his arms, finally relaxed a bit. She gently rubbed against his chest and whispered almost imperceptibly, “I’m so happy.”
Seeing his sister’s mood improve, Yagi Miyuki hadn’t even had a chance to catch his breath when he became alert again to Michako’s actions. Due to the pitch darkness in the room, he couldn’t see what she was doing, but he felt her lift her head from his chest. Then, he sensed her intense gaze fixed upon his face.
Before he could react, Yagi Miyuki felt a fragrant breeze approach, followed by a loss of defense at his lips.
Yagi Miyuki was stunned for half a second. Since this was the second such attack, he was somewhat more composed this time. However, he noticed that Michako’s lips felt unusually cool.
Frowning slightly, Yagi Miyuki gently pushed his sister away, who seemed ready to launch a second round of her onslaught. Without pursuing her misdeed further, he first touched her delicate cheek and then grabbed her small hand, both feeling abnormally cold. He asked in a serious tone, “Michako, are you feeling unwell?”
“Umm… no, just a little,” she responded. “I just washed the dishes and touched cold water, then my abdomen started to hurt more, and my hands and feet got cold. It’s a normal symptom of menstrual pain, don’t worry…”
“Idiot!” he exclaimed.
