Chapter 127: The Second Letter
“So, the best course of action is to do nothing?”
Yagi Miyuki, walking slowly and distractedly towards the classroom, pondered Ninomiya-senpai’s suggestion, which seemed quite feasible. However, if he could actually do that, he wouldn’t have gone to comfort Michako last night.
“So annoying—” Yagi Miyuki pulled at his hair in frustration, inadvertently causing several strands to come out, which left him momentarily stunned.
“Lately… I’ve been losing quite a bit of hair.”
Yagi Miyuki let his hand fall, “Better not think too much about it, or I’ll go bald before forty… Huh?” Muttering to himself, he suddenly caught sight of a familiar flash of gold and instinctively turned his head to look.
“Sakura Manyu?”
Seeing the girl with slender legs covered by pure white knee-high socks, a petite figure, and strikingly bright, shoulder-length, slightly curled golden hair, Yagi Miyuki greeted her without much thought.
“Hmph—”
However, instead of the sweet voice of his childhood friend, a clear, cold snort was the response. “Uh…”
Yagi Miyuki was taken aback as he watched Sakura Manyu stop, turn her head slowly, glance at him with an almost indifferent look in her sky-blue eyes, and then continue walking past him.
“What’s going on?”
Yagi Miyuki was confused.
Just a few days ago, she was fussing about marrying him, and now she was acting cold and indifferent, as if saying, “Stay away from me.” Did something happen to upset her?
“No, I haven’t done anything to make her angry, have I?”
Yagi Miyuki was bewildered, scratching his head in confusion.
Since the day Sakura’s uncle came to “force their marriage,” he hadn’t seen Sakura Manyu. He hadn’t had the chance to upset her.
And…
“Why does it feel like she’s a completely different person?”
Yagi Miyuki frowned, looking back at the retreating figure of the golden-haired girl, who soon disappeared around the corner. He found himself deep in thought.
That indifferent look she gave him brought back a feeling he hadn’t experienced in a long time. No, it wasn’t because he was a masochist, but ever since he started dating a girl in middle school, Sakura Manyu had been treating him with that attitude for two whole years, until half a month ago.
“This is so confusing.”
Yagi Miyuki shook his head, no longer wanting to ponder further, and continued towards the classroom.
…
“Umm… I guess I should also avoid going to Narase’s place for now. I’ll just continue giving her lessons via text. After all, she’s capable of studying on her own now.”
After school, as Yagi Miyuki packed up his things, he muttered to himself, his expression awkward.
Ever since he gave that overly dog-like mermaid a lesson in health education last time, the expected distance hadn’t occurred. Instead, it had the opposite effect, making her even more clingy.

Of course, he admitted, the reason for Narase Mero becoming so clingy was largely due to him treating her like a pet at first because of her overly naive personality. But now that things had come to this, he could only try his best to make amends.
…
“I’m home.”
Returning home exhausted from his shift at the café, Yagi Miyuki used his key to open the door and immediately saw the girl neatly kneeling in the entrance, causing a wry smile to form on his lips.
He suddenly found himself wishing that the irresponsible couple, his parents, would come back soon. If his dad were at home, Michako wouldn’t dare to act like a newlywed wife.
“Welcome home, brother.”
Michako greeted him with a sweet smile, stood up to approach him, and took the briefcase-style backpack from his hands. She then fetched a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet and placed them at his feet, gently saying, “Brother, the hot water is ready. Are you hungry? Do you want a late-night snack?”
“No, thanks.”
Yagi Miyuki shook his head and smiled, “I’m going to take a bath and then head to bed. Michako, you should go to sleep too. It’s almost ten o’clock.”
“Mhm.”
Michako obediently nodded, then seemed to remember something, “Oh, brother, a letter for you came earlier. I’ve put it on your desk in your room.”
“Huh?”
Yagi Miyuki was momentarily surprised, but then he regained his composure, rubbed Michako’s head, and said, “Got it, I’m going to take a bath now. You should rest soon, Michako.”
After speaking, Yagi Miyuki turned and walked towards the bathroom, his mind and body so tired that he immediately forgot about the letter. It wasn’t until after his bath and when he returned to his room that he noticed the pink envelope on his desk.
“Sending a letter is such a hassle. Who is it from, anyway? Couldn’t they just call to sort it out?”
Yagi Miyuki grumbled, picking up the envelope from the desk. After examining it, a strong sense of déjà vu hit him. “There’s no sender information? Wait a second!”
He suddenly realized, opened the desk drawer, and pulled out an envelope identical to the one in his hand.
“Could it be from the same person who sent this one?”
Yagi · Detective · Miyuki discovered that the matter was not as simple as it seemed.
If it weren’t for the fact that this letter also lacked a signature, he wouldn’t have remembered the nonsensical “love letter” he received a week ago.
In that letter he received last week, besides the phrase “I like you,” he couldn’t understand what it was trying to express.
Reading it again, it was still the same:
“It seems you’re doing well. Even though there was a problem with what I gave you, it doesn’t matter anymore.”

“Just wait a bit longer, I’ll come to find you soon, very soon.”
“I like you.”
The letter was incongruous, with incomprehensible statements at the beginning followed by a blunt “I like you.” It seemed like a prank, didn’t it?
“Forget it.”
Yagi Miyuki shook his head, promptly opening the newly arrived letter, “Let’s check if the handwriting matches first. Who would be so idle to play such a boring prank?”
“Hmm… It really is the same person?”
After just a quick glance, Yagi Miyuki could already confirm that both letters were written by the same person. The handwriting was graceful yet strong, highly distinctive, and appeared to be that of a girl.
“Let’s see what you are up to.”
Yagi Miyuki frowned, spreading the letter out on his desk, and began reading intently.
“I’ve always… been watching you?”
Yagi Miyuki read the first line of the letter aloud, feeling a bit creeped out.
“Hey, hey, it’s not some stalker, is it? I’m not that handsome, am I?” The more he read, the more furrowed his brows became. Soon, his eyes widened in disbelief!
“How can this be… No, impossible! Absolutely impossible!”
