Chapter 54: Yagi’s Fear
Looking at his innocent-faced sister wrapped in a blanket, Yagi Miyuki clutched his chest as if experiencing a heart attack, finding it hard to cope with the sudden shock.
“Brother, don’t get all worked up so early in the morning.”
Michako, on the other hand, seemed as if nothing had happened. She mumbled, rubbed her sleepy eyes, and moved her warm and soft body towards Yagi Miyuki. She extended her arms around her brother’s waist and lazily murmured, “Let’s sleep a little longer.”
“Sleep, my foot!”
Yagi Miyuki exploded instantly, shouting, “Don’t act so calm about this! Why are you crawling into my bed again? You’re not a child anymore, Michako! What are you making me do?”
“It’s fine.”
Michako hugged her brother’s waist, burying her head into his chest, mumbling, “Because it’s you, Brother, it’s okay.”
“It’s not okay!”
Yagi Miyuki was so frustrated he felt like spitting blood. “What kind of brother would do this? Go back to your own room!”
“I don’t want to.”
Michako didn’t even lift her head, and whispered softly as if sleep-talking, “That’s why… I want to wake up every morning and see you first.”
Yagi Miyuki was somewhat bewildered by his sister’s confession-like words. He paused for a moment before covering his face, “Stop joking around; get up.”
“Hmm…”
The response was a whining noise from his sister.
“Hey, hey.”
Yagi Miyuki felt a headache coming on as he looked at the girl in his arms. He had never realized before that Michako was this clingy.
Just as he was at a loss, Michako’s breathing had become steady and rhythmic, clearly falling back to sleep.
“If you want to sleep… go back to your room…”
Yagi Miyuki had just raised his voice when it involuntarily lowered again, as if afraid of waking up the girl beside him. He stayed silent for a while, finally just pulling at his hair, “What’s going on?”
Looking at his sister hugging him, Yagi Miyuki was at a loss for words. After a while, he gently lifted his hand to stroke his sister’s head, smoothing her disheveled long hair.
“You may be sleeping comfortably, but what about me, you dummy.”
Yagi Miyuki sighed and thought for a moment before lying down on the bed again as gently as he could. Yawning, he muttered, “Let’s sleep a bit more then. Although it’s a bit uncomfortable with my stomach being pressed, I can’t waste this rare day off.”
Thinking this, Yagi Miyuki closed his eyes again. Just as sleepiness was about to overtake him, a crisp notification sound woke him up.
Somewhat discontent, Yagi Miyuki stretched his hand towards the bedside. This time he didn’t touch anything inappropriate and smoothly grabbed his phone.

He squinted his eyes, suddenly becoming alert when he saw the notification on his phone’s screen.
“Dad, is that Dad?”
Yagi Miyuki nervously looked down at his sister sleeping soundly in his arms. If their father saw this, would he definitely send him off to study in Germany?
“Hm? Is it that late already?”
As Yagi Miyuki was about to unlock his phone, he suddenly noticed the time displayed. It was already almost 10:30. He had thought it was only around seven or eight o’clock.
But what really surprised him came next. Upon opening the message, Yagi Miyuki was dumbfounded!
“Holy crap! Dad, you’re too efficient! You’re almost home already?!”
Looking at those unread messages, Yagi Miyuki swallowed hard, feeling like his life was in danger.
8:17
Dad: “Miyuki, are you up? Ryoko and I have already left. We should be home around 10.”
9:34
Dad: “Still sleeping? That’s really unacceptable! Even if it’s the weekend, you shouldn’t have such an irregular schedule!”
10:04
Dad: “Angry.jpg”
10:27
Dad: “I’m almost home!”
Ding!
Another message popped up.
Dad: “I’m at the front door.”
“Michako, Michako!”
Yagi Miyuki, sweating bullets, hastily nudged his sister in his arms, shouting, “Michako, wake up, Dad’s back!”
“Um… so what if he’s back…”
Michako mumbled sleepily, “I stayed up late drawing last night, let me sleep a bit more.”
Yagi Miyuki was visibly annoyed, but at this moment, he had no time to retort—because he had already heard the sound of the door opening!
“If you’re not getting up, can’t I?”
Yagi Miyuki was about to extricate himself from Michako’s clinging arms around his waist when, unexpectedly, she tightened her grip.
“What are you making a fuss about so early in the morning? Let me sleep a bit more.”
“I’m not stopping you from sleeping, just let me go!”
Yagi Miyuki’s face twisted in irritation. He wanted to push his sister away but was worried about hurting her, so he softened his tone, “Can you let big brother go first?”
“No way…”
Still groggy, Michako was uncharacteristically stubborn, muttering, “Hug big brother.”
Knock Knock—!
There was a knock on the door, followed by a heavy voice, “Miyuki, are you still not up? Really, you can’t even make breakfast, how are you supposed to take care of your sister?”

Yagi Miyuki was sweating profusely, not even daring to breathe. He looked down at his sister Michako, who was nestled in his arms like a kitten, and whispered in a somewhat desperate tone, “Michako, get up quickly!”
“Eh? Dad’s back?”
Michako lifted her small head and rubbed her sleepy eyes. It seemed she had just woken up and realized that her previous words were like sleep talk.
“Hm? Miyuki?”
The thick male voice outside the door sounded again, this time with a more severe tone, “Aren’t you planning to get up? I’m coming in.”
“Wait!”
Yagi Miyuki couldn’t help but shout.
“What are you so nervous about?”
As an experienced lawyer who had been through various situations, Yagi’s father sensed something was off. “You woke up and didn’t reply. Are you doing something inappropriate? I’m coming in.”
The door was slowly pushed open, and Yagi Miyuki watched as a stern-faced, middle-aged man in a suit and leather shoes entered. He managed to squeeze out a smile and said awkwardly, “Dad, good morning.”
Seeing his son and daughter on the bed, entwined in an ambiguous posture, Yagi’s father was stunned for a moment. His face then turned ashen, and he said in a low voice, “Hmm, so this is how you take care of your sister, Miyuki?”
In the eyes of his conservative father, the scene before him was quite an eyesore. He felt as if his belt was itching to be used.
Realizing the gravity of the situation from the look of fury in his dad’s eyes, Yagi Miyuki hurriedly said, “It’s not— Dad, I haven’t done anything! Let me explain!”
“What else do you want to do?!”
Yagi Miyuki: “…”
