Chapter 6
After arriving in Berlin, Germany, Shangguan Xueying checked into the Regent Berlin Hotel. This classical-style five-star hotel, like a brilliant pearl, stood proudly in the heart of the city. From her room window, she could see the lush greenery and vibrant blossoms of Gendarmenmarkt Square. A gentle breeze carried flower petals like drifting snow, the scenery so beautiful it refreshed her spirit.
Inside, the hotel’s 156 rooms and 39 suites were decorated luxuriously yet comfortably, each furnished with top-quality bedding that made guests feel as if they were living in a dreamlike wonderland. Its dining options were abundant, with the Fischers Fritz restaurant regarded as one of Berlin’s finest, offering exquisite culinary delights.
On her first day, Shangguan Xueying took some time to rest and recover from jet lag. Once her energy returned, she decided to begin her mission. She first familiarized herself with the area around the hotel and was delighted to discover numerous malls and supermarkets nearby—an ideal condition for her plans.
By day, she wandered Berlin’s streets like an ordinary tourist. The breeze gently lifted her hair, and her figure on the German streets looked like a living painting, full of poetry and mystery. The ancient buildings carried the weight of history, their weathered walls whispering of time gone by. Dressed in casual, comfortable clothes and a stylish sunhat, she seemed leisurely, yet her sharp eyes scanned every shop that might hold the supplies she needed.
In a fine food store, she discovered the irresistible Ritter Sport chocolates. Fifteen flavors in total—almond protein, classic chocolate, raisin hazelnut, rum, Alpine milk, and more—each carried its own unique charm. She picked up a raisin hazelnut bar, took a small bite, and savored the perfect blend of rich chocolate and crunchy hazelnuts as it bloomed on her tongue. Nearby, Storck Riesen toffee chocolates caught her attention too: a dark chocolate shell with layered chocolate coating and chewy toffee inside. The smooth, balanced sweetness tempted her into buying several boxes.
Leaving the food store, she stepped into a fragrant perfume shop. The signature “Cologne scent” filled her senses, and with their reasonable prices, she quickly selected several bottles she liked.
Next, an appliance store drew her in with its Krups coffee machine display. With more than 160 years of history, the brand was renowned in professional circles. She imagined brewing a rich cup at home with such a machine, enjoying the indulgence of café-quality coffee. After listening to the staff’s detailed introduction, she chose a high-value model, confident it would let her—though a beginner—experience the art of a professional barista.
Passing a toy shop, she stopped at the sight of adorable Steiff teddy bears. As one of the top three German teddy bear makers with over 150 years of history, Steiff had become a world-renowned collectible brand. She picked out a plump little bear, imagining its comforting companionship.
Further along, she came across the Bahlsen biscuit store. With a heritage of more than 120 years, the company was famous across Europe. Its Pickup chocolate bars, filled with an entire slab of chocolate, left a sweet impression. She bought several packs for later enjoyment.
In a candy shop, colorful Haribo gummies shone with their chewy, tangy sweetness. She grabbed a large bag, especially of the signature gummy bears.
Before she knew it, night had fallen. Berlin shimmered with glowing lights, while moonlight washed over the cobblestone streets in silvery white. But Shangguan Xueying knew her true work was about to begin.
She changed into her night gear—lightweight, blending perfectly into the darkness, and able to conceal her presence almost completely, turning her into a shadow. With her psychic abilities, she could sense every detail of her surroundings: security layouts, camera blind spots, patrol routes.
Following her carefully planned route, she visited the malls and supermarkets she had scouted earlier. At midnight, she slipped in like a phantom, soundlessly transferring the jewelry, food, and goods she wanted into her boundless spatial storage.
In a jewelry shop, diamonds and gemstone rings glittered under the lights. Avoiding cameras and alarms with ease, her agility and heightened senses allowed her to secure several top-tier pieces.
She then entered a gourmet supermarket, targeting Germany’s signature products. She stored away sauerkraut, gingerbread, and Meissen porcelain. The sauerkraut—fermented cabbage rich in lactic acid, vitamins, minerals, and fiber—was a nutritious staple. The German gingerbread, especially the famed Nuremberg variety, enchanted her with its spicy sweetness and decorative tin boxes—collectible treasures in themselves. As for Meissen porcelain, Europe’s first and finest, its craftsmanship and elegance left her captivated.
During her operations, Shangguan Xueying avoided every patrol and camera. Each success was followed by a swift, silent exit, leaving no trace behind.
In a remote border town, under the pale glow of the moon, a secret deal quietly unfolded. The meeting point was an abandoned warehouse, overgrown with weeds, the cries of night birds adding to the desolation. Dressed in a black trench coat, her expression cold and resolute, Shangguan Xueying arrived half an hour early. She used her psychic power to cast an invisible perimeter, ready to detect the slightest disturbance.
Soon, a black van rolled into view. A tall, stern-faced man stepped out—Germany’s black-web broker for the deal. Without wasting words, they confirmed the goods list and payment. Inside the warehouse, dim lights revealed rows of crates: cold, lethal firearms; heavy bulletproof vests; sharp controlled blades like slumbering beasts; and stacks of gasoline, diesel, and engine oil—the vital energy for machines.
The transaction was swift and efficient. She paid in cash, and his men loaded the goods into her designated vehicle. Both sides remained silent, knowing exposure meant disaster.
Driving away, she took the most secluded route, using her awareness to avoid checkpoints and surveillance, her psychic senses sweeping constantly to ensure no one tailed her. Hours later, in a quiet countryside of rolling hills and scattered trees, she stopped. Confirming safety, she raised her hands slightly—and with a shimmer of light, all the weapons, fuel, and supplies vanished into her spatial storage.
Relieved, she exhaled deeply before returning calmly to her hotel. After a quick wash, she lay on the bed, letting exhaustion pull her into sleep. Though the night had been dangerous, she knew she would grow accustomed to such risks.
Over the following days, her routine continued: exploring Berlin by day, enjoying its culture and cuisine, then carrying out her secret operations by night. Her collection of supplies grew steadily.
By the fourth day, she had acquired almost everything she wanted. She spent the day carefully inspecting and organizing her loot in the hotel room, ensuring everything was intact. That night, she made her final sweep.
On the morning of the fifth day, at 10 a.m., sunlight fell like golden dust on her graceful figure. The blue sky arched above, the trees on the streets were lush and green, and birds sang cheerfully. With her luggage packed and her ticket booked, Shangguan Xueying prepared to leave for her next destination—Italy.
Before leaving the Regent Berlin, she cast one last glance back at the city that had given her so many thrills and surprises. Her heart brimmed with anticipation for what lay ahead.
Carrying her harvest of supplies and a spirit full of hope, she embarked on the fourth leg of her journey—Italy. Her Berlin chapter would remain a vivid and unforgettable memory in her life.
