Bai Shu pushed his glasses up and smiled at her, “Good morning, little squad leader. Did you sleep well?”
Chen Xiaofei cheered, “Little squad leader, you finally woke up! I’m hungry!”
Wang Weihu cleared away some items, “Be careful, don’t stub your foot.”
Qin Luo set her down beside him.
When Xu Duoduo saw everyone there, her mood lifted considerably. She was very happy, “Good morning.”
Saying that, she quickly went over to the tea table and sat down on the carpet.
After Chen Xiaofei’s loud cry, she took out breakfast: big buns, millet porridge, tea eggs, and a few small pickled vegetables.
Everyone instantly felt happy.
Wang Weihu peeled an egg and said, “Ah, it’s so nice to be at home.”
Bai Shu nodded while putting down his tablet.
Chen Xiaofei eagerly grabbed a seafood bun, “Mmm, shrimp and crab roe buns, absolutely the best!”
Qin Luo was busy taking out a hair tie to braid Xu Duoduo’s hair, “I just learned this skill, it looks really good. I’ll make you a pretty braid, okay? Don’t be mad.”
Chen Xiaofei, munching on the fragrant bun, looked at him curiously, “Huh? Qin Luo, how did you make the little squad leader mad? She’s so nice, how could you bully her? So bold!”
Qin Luo couldn’t help but blush and immediately responded, “Don’t ask! You wouldn’t understand!”
Chen Xiaofei hummed, “It’s just a relationship, who doesn’t understand?”
Bai Shu sipped some millet porridge, “Oh, really? Have you been in a relationship?”
Wang Weihu evenly divided the tea eggs among the four of them and asked, “When did Xiaofei have a girlfriend? I didn’t know about this.”
Chen Xiaofei whimpered and looked at them both, turning his frustration into appetite, and began eating again!
Bai Shu found it amusing.
To be honest, Qin Luo’s skills were improving; he braided Xu Duoduo’s hair into a beautiful twist braid.
For some reason, they all thought Xu Duoduo would really like pink, so all four of them picked pink flowered hair ties, which indeed looked great when she put them on.
“Wow, little squad leader, you’re gorgeous!”
“So beautiful, so beautiful.”
“Definitely!”
Chen Xiaofei and the others clapped, feeling very proud of their beautiful white-haired zombie.
They were the best teammates in the whole of Hua country!
Look at how well they had taken care of their little zombie!
Xu Duoduo didn’t particularly care for pink, but since they all praised it, she wore it anyway. She looked at herself in the mirror.
The white twist braid adorned with pink flowers indeed looked delicate.
It looked nice.
Qin Luo was very pleased, “Tsk, my skills are unbeatable.”
He reached up and patted Xu Duoduo’s head, “Alright, go eat breakfast.”
After washing his hands, he sat down again.
After last night’s antics, he personally helped her into the bathroom to brush her teeth and freshen up, and there were only a few hours left before dawn.
There was no need for another round of washing.
She wasn’t dirty anyway.
Xu Duoduo slowly chewed her bun, enjoying the delicious shrimp and crab roe bun—this was her first time eating one. Before the apocalypse, accumulating crab roe was a hassle, as one crab could only provide a small amount. But after the apocalypse, at the I City base, there were plenty of mutated seafood, and one large crab’s roe could make dozens of buns. She was now eating a mutated crab roe bun.
So tasty!
Qin Luo was also amazed, “This is so delicious! Xu Duoduo, we should make more of these when we have time!”
Chen Xiaofei raised his hand in agreement, “Yes, yes! I agree!”
Wang Weihu couldn’t stop eating, nodding in agreement, “Mm, mm, mm!”
Bai Shu also tasted one, and then he was surprised, “It’s really delicious! The skin is thin, the filling is large, and the freshness of the taste is extraordinary.”
It even oozes juices.
Xu Duoduo nodded, eating happily!
The four of them and one zombie spent a fair amount of time filling their stomachs, especially since they ate so much.
Xu Duoduo also drank several bottles of mutated core diluted liquid as a drink and ate a few mutated cores.
Qin Luo noticed that she wasn’t very happy eating the mutated cores, so he gently opened her mouth to check, “Your teeth seem fine? Zombies shouldn’t need to change teeth, right?”
Xu Duoduo then gloomily said, “I need to eat a lot, and chewing gets tiring.”
No matter how good mutated cores are, like candy, eating too many can become tiresome.
Qin Luo finally understood and couldn’t help but chuckle, “Oh, I forgot about this. How many one-star mutated cores do we have left? We can trade them for some three-star ones. They’ll be easier to eat.”
Xu Duoduo’s eyes lit up, but she also felt a bit annoyed with herself for not thinking of such a simple solution. She sulked for quite a while.
Bai Shu then said, “Lin Qianxing just sent us a message a while ago, asking us to visit. The three dresses are ready.”
Wang Weihu finished eating and said they could go too.
Chen Xiaofei, stuffed from eating, said, “Let’s go! It’ll be a good walk.”
Everyone agreed to go out.
So, they needed to change into outdoor clothes.
Xu Duoduo wore a winter dress and went out with them.
The four of them chattered away the entire time.
The zombie just listened.
Halfway there, they encountered someone in the elevator, and it turned out to be a team heading to Waguo. It seemed that two of their teammates had sacrificed their lives. The four of them fell silent.
They exchanged nods as a form of acknowledgment.
As they got off the elevator, they saw the other team’s dull, lifeless eyes.
Xu Duoduo’s heart sank.
She couldn’t help but tug at Qin Luo’s sleeve, and Qin Luo silently took her hand.
Chen Xiaofei couldn’t help but sigh, “Is this a natural disaster or man-made calamity? On this mission, the highest-level mutated creatures we encountered were only three stars, but so many people died.”
Bai Shu adjusted his goggles, “Life and death are determined by fate, sometimes there’s nothing you can do.”
If the tsunami hadn’t come suddenly, perhaps there wouldn’t have been the mutated creatures’ chaos, and the other teams wouldn’t have panicked, causing the situation to spiral out of control.
If everything had proceeded in an orderly manner, maybe fewer people would have died.
But there’s no such thing as “what if.”
Qin Luo also said, “The judgment of Jin Chuanqiong came out this morning. He’s being roasted online, his name can’t even enter the cemetery. All those things he did have been exposed.”
Even his backstage supporters were dragged out by the headquarters. On the death list, three-quarters of the people were from Jin Peng’s team, all because of Jin Chuanqiong.
Not many from Jin Peng’s team were innocent either—they’d betrayed their teammates.
In the end, it was all bad news.
The surviving two teammates had to redeem themselves, barely maintaining their status as soldiers, but they could no longer participate in major missions, and they lost their chances for promotion.
At least they weren’t executed.
It was still a bit tragic.
Xu Duoduo was a bit shocked because she had been asleep and didn’t know about this, but she also felt that the people from Jin Peng’s team deserved to die.
They didn’t do the mission to save people, but purely for fame and profit.
As long as they saved someone and completed the mission, they didn’t care if the survivors lost an arm or a leg.
It was just inhumane.
