If they let headquarters take over, all they would get was some points at best. As supplies became scarcer in the future, prices would skyrocket, and those points wouldn’t be enough to cover the losses.
“How about contacting Jiang Anan from Team B? To be honest, I really don’t want to see that woman, but her mutation is also space-related, and they say her space is huge. If we store it with her, we’ll have to give her fifty percent, but at least we still get the other half. If we hand it over to headquarters, all we get is points.”
It wasn’t that they weren’t loyal. The problem was that headquarters was a mess right now, with different factions scrambling to hoard supplies. If they didn’t keep some for themselves, the future would be tough. No one wanted to starve while working.
Chen Xiaofei had a real headache, but after he finished speaking, his eyes landed on Xu Duoduo. His face lit up instantly, and he greeted her sweetly, “Hello, little squad leader! We meet again! As expected of our little squad leader—even as a zombie, you’re different. You’re the most beautiful one among all zombies!”
As he spoke, he even winked at Xu Duoduo and gave her a thumbs-up.
Xu Duoduo: …
Qin Luo couldn’t help but burst into laughter at her awkward expression. “She’s disgusted by you, hahaha.”
This little thing was too funny.
Chen Xiaofei scratched his head. “Ah, that’s really embarrassing.”
They were always putting on a show.
Xu Duoduo was dumbfounded, and at that moment, Bai Shu returned. “There are three storage warehouses with canned goods—two with meat, one with fruit.”
He habitually reached up to adjust his glasses, only to grasp at empty air. Then he seemed to remember he didn’t need them anymore and chuckled.
Bai Shu used to wear glasses—a well-mannered, scholarly student. Now, he didn’t need them anymore. His mutation had affected his eyes, which wasn’t particularly useful, but combined with his role as a sniper, it was surprisingly perfect for him.
“Let’s go take a look and figure out what to do with it.”
Qin Luo carried Xu Duoduo as if she weighed nothing—sometimes holding her in his arms, sometimes under his arm, sometimes slung over his shoulder, as if she were just an accessory.
Chen Xiaofei hopped alongside them. “Qin Ge, can’t the little squad leader walk on her own? You keep carrying her. Why not let her walk a few steps? I want to see if she walks differently from other zombies.”
Other zombies walked with a clumsy, dragging gait. If they spotted a human, they’d turn bloodthirsty and sprint forward in a frenzy.
But their little squad leader? She was obediently clinging to Qin Ge’s neck.
Her face was pale as snow, but she was spotless and clean, still wearing her soft pink bunny pajamas.
Qin Luo took long strides while glancing down at Xu Duoduo, who was curiously looking around. He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but her neck seemed to be getting more flexible. “Who knows? I’ll put her down and see later.”
For now, they needed to hurry.
Bai Shu glanced at Qin Luo holding Xu Duoduo like a doll and smirked. “Well, of course. Someone’s holding on like he can’t bear to let go. No need for her to walk—you can just carry her the whole way.”
Qin Luo’s ears visibly turned red, and he snapped at Bai Shu to shut up.
Chen Xiaofei immediately burst into quiet laughter. “Qin Ge, don’t be so thin-skinned.”
The three of them bickered all the way to the warehouse. But when it came to business, they instantly became serious. Chen Xiaofei remained on alert while Bai Shu unlocked the door. Qin Luo walked in first, followed by the other two.
The warehouse was at least several hundred square meters, filled with towering stacks of canned goods, all neatly packed in boxes.
“There’s quite a lot.”
Qin Luo glanced around. Indeed, only a spatial ability user could store this much. But according to the future predictions from their team’s precognitive ability user, the total number of spatial ability users worldwide wouldn’t exceed a thousand in the later stages.
That showed just how rare this ability was.
Their country’s top-ranked spatial ability user, codenamed “Taotie,” was currently the strongest known spatial ability wielder. His space could even be partitioned.
Each of the four members in Qin Luo’s squad had a storage space card embedded in their wristbands. As the captain, Qin Luo’s was 180 cubic meters, while Wang Weihu, Bai Shu, and Chen Xiaofei each had 100 cubic meters.
But their spaces had to hold weapons and some food, making it difficult to hoard large quantities of supplies.
These storage space cards were essentially independent spaces separated by Taotie. However, they weren’t truly private—Taotie could see everything stored inside.
This was a precaution set by headquarters to prevent betrayal. No matter how much they stored, it was all transparent.
Even so, these storage space cards were rare. If their special operations squad hadn’t been so strong—especially with Qin Luo developing a lightning-based ability—they probably wouldn’t have gotten their hands on four of them.
Chen Xiaofei sighed dramatically. “So many canned goods… If only they were all ours! Why don’t we have a spatial ability user on our team?! Supplies will only dwindle from now on, and thinking about that survival manual saying we’ll have to live on nutrient fluids makes me wanna cry.”
He looked heartbroken, staring at the mountain of cans like a child deprived of candy.
Bai Shu thought for a long moment. “This area has relatively low contamination. As time goes on, supplies will only get scarcer. I suggest keeping as much as possible.”
Qin Luo was also considering it. If they reported it to headquarters, things were so chaotic right now that someone might intercept and steal it. It would be safer to keep it in their own hands.
Xu Duoduo’s thinking process was slower now—some information took her longer to process—but she understood their conversation. More importantly, she knew she needed value to survive.
Her unique state of being different from other zombies was the reason she was still alive. If she had behaved like a normal zombie, she would have already been shot dead by Qin Luo back in the residential district.
There was no way she’d be getting this VIP treatment, being carried around in someone’s arms.
So, Xu Duoduo patted Qin Luo and pointed toward the stacks of canned goods. “Ah wu, ah wu.”
The moment she heard herself babbling nonsense, she quickly shut her mouth.
Chen Xiaofei noticed her first and exclaimed, “Holy crap! Qin Ge, the little squad leader just spoke! Damn, that was so cute!—Ow!”
Bai Shu smacked him on the head. “Is it your place to call the little squad leader cute?”
Qin Luo ignored the two idiots and looked down at the tiny figure in his arms. “What are you doing? You want to go to the canned goods? You can even eat canned food?”
He was shocked.
Xu Duoduo’s expression was complicated. How could their thought process be so ridiculous?!
Ignoring them, she kept tapping Qin Luo, signaling him to move. Qin Luo sighed and gave in, walking toward the cans. “What exactly do you want to do?”
Zombies being interested in canned food? He’d never heard of that before.
Until—
The moment Xu Duoduo touched the cans, an entire row of them vanished into thin air.
…
Silence.
A sudden, stunned silence.
And then, in unison, the three of them yelled, “What the hell?!” their faces filled with shock.
