Everyone was eating high-calorie self-heating hotpots, casually talking about what they had collected.
Putting aside the messy snacks and drinks, Jiang Ning collected the most grains and cereals; Zhang Chao cleared out the local product agency company in the Tibetan area, getting over a hundred jin of yak jerky, rhodiola, saffron, matsutake mushrooms, cheese, and so on.
Lu Yu found a few packs of Wuchang rice; Huo Yishen found a liquor agency company and took dozens of boxes of alcohol.
Counting it all up, the most was bottled mineral water.
That was a necessity they couldn’t throw away—after all, constantly drinking rainwater wasn’t really viable.
After discussing, they decided to first bring back medicine, meat, alcohol, rice, and grains; then the non-perishable instant noodles, spicy noodles, bread, etc., with mineral water and beverages saved for last.
Also, everyone took some things they personally needed.
The assault boat belonged to Jiang Ning, and they also had a Tang Dao sword, a golf club, and skincare products.
Lu Yu took some clothes and shoes.
Zhang Chao collected electronics, game consoles, watches, and the like.
Huo Yishen carried dolls, children’s books, and stationery—clearly for Dou Dou.
Everyone kept track and tried to take as little as possible from the communal supplies.
While moving stuff onto the inflatable boats, Lu Yu chatted, “I found a seed shop, but unfortunately, the seeds were sprayed with pesticides and aren’t edible. Otherwise, we could bring them back just in case.”
As soon as he said this, three pairs of eyes stared sharply at him.
“What, what’s wrong?”
Zhang Chao didn’t know what to say. “The whole world’s flooded. If this really is the apocalypse, seeds will be more valuable than medicine.”
Only then did Lu Yu realize his foolish mistake. “So, should we bring them back?”
Isn’t that obvious? He and Huo Yishen continued loading cargo while Jiang Ning and Zhang Chao went upstairs to carry more.
Going up, they were startled to find it was a branch of a certain high-tech company founded by the great person who fed the Chinese people.
The branch wasn’t big. Most of it was new hybrid rice—several varieties totaling around 500 to 600 jin—as well as many hybrid vegetable varieties, hydroponic technology, and nutrient solutions.
It was extremely precious. Jiang Ning didn’t even leave the data behind; the two of them made several trips back and forth.
On the last trip, she deliberately slowed down a few steps and put the lab computer into her space—it contained precious documents and information that could greatly help restore civilization in the future.
After finishing, it was already past 9 p.m.
The assault boat #1801 was tied to two inflatable boats; Jiang Ning’s had one tied to it. They estimated the power and load capacity and quietly headed toward Jinrong community in the dark.
Jiang Ning piloted the assault boat while Lu Yu sat beside her with binoculars, keeping watch.
The binoculars had night vision, helping them avoid obstacles and watch out for sudden robbers.
Fully loaded, they moved slowly.
When they reached Jinrong community, the two quietly turned off the engines and dimmed their headlamps to the lowest setting. Together, they paddled silently back to their apartment building.
Almost everyone was asleep at this time, but they still had to be careful and move quietly. Too much cargo would attract resentment, so they walked barefoot to avoid making noise.
Zheng Weili came down to help, and it took nearly an hour to finish moving everything.
Fearing Zheng Weili wouldn’t be able to guard the place, Huo Yishen told Jiang Ning to stay while the three of them returned to the office building to finish moving overnight.
The supplies were piled in the living room of apartment 1803—looking especially messy but giving an indescribable sense of satisfaction.
The two of them didn’t rest, sitting on stools to sort and classify everything, dividing what could be shared into four parts, and placing the rest to the side.
They hadn’t finished the second trip yet; many drinks and mineral water remained, which 1801 and Zhang Chao went to fetch.
By the time everything was carried to the 18th floor, it was already 1 a.m.
Everyone divided the supplies overnight. Jiang Ning took plenty of medicine, grains, beef, liquor, 10 jin of Wuchang rice, over a dozen boxes of mineral water, seven or eight boxes of milk, two big sacks of snacks and instant foods, plus many other miscellaneous items.
In short, they wouldn’t need to worry for half a year.
The only problem now was the seeds they brought back.
They knew seeds were precious, but besides Jiang Ning, no one else knew how to take care of them.
Also, with the heavy rain and humidity, improper storage would spoil them quickly.
Jiang Ning thought for a moment and said, “How about I take care of preserving them? Maybe I can manage to grow hydroponic vegetables, and then I’ll teach you all.”
It wasn’t greed; in this post-apocalyptic world with frequent natural disasters, the high and low temperatures weren’t suitable for plant growth. There was basically no chance to plant outdoors, and seeds would spoil if stored too long.
The space could preserve freshness. She sincerely wanted to save these precious items; if scientists could develop suitable planting environments in the future, she could anonymously donate the seeds.
After all, the space only had ten square meters of black soil, and she wouldn’t be able to plant all her seeds even if she lived to the end.
No one objected and even helped carry the seeds into her home. “Aning, the freedom to grow greens depends on you now.”
“I’ll just try; no promises I’ll succeed.”
Exhausted, after showering she immediately fell asleep.
Staying up late harmed her liver; waking up at noon, she still felt dazed.
After eating junk food all day, her mouth was dry and sore, and even chrysanthemum tea couldn’t soothe her.
Jiang Ning took a serving of rice, steamed ribs, and vegetables with wok hei, eating it with indescribable satisfaction. At the end, she even had a bowl of medicinal chicken feet soup—just right!
After eating and drinking, she went into the space, only to be almost frightened by what she saw.
Whoa… whose space is this?!
Jiang Ning was stunned by the sight before her. The supplies were still hers, but the space had expanded.
What was once two bedrooms and a living room had become three bedrooms and a living room.
No, not just three bedrooms and a living room—the area had increased as well.
The master bedroom was about five square meters larger, the second bedroom two square meters larger; the living room, bathroom, kitchen, and balcony all grew bigger. The additional rooms totaled around 10 square meters.
What shocked her even more was that the garden had doubled in size, from 10 square meters to 20!
What did this mean?
Not only could she have freedom to grow greens, but also freedom to grow fruits.
She immediately got a ruler and measured—about 50 square meters more, roughly 150 cubic meters.
Amid the surprise, Jiang Ning was puzzled: how did the space suddenly expand?
Could it be because it was filled to the brim?
No, last time it was almost stuffed full but didn’t expand. There had to be some other unknown reason.
She racked her brain but could only ponder slowly.
With the space larger, would the time allowed inside increase as well?
She excitedly looked at the time counter—it had accumulated over 20 days, but after deducting what had already been spent, only a pitiful 36 hours remained. It was truly heartbreaking.
There was a daily tally, but the time hadn’t increased.
No choice, she could only keep trying.
Rolling up her sleeves, she moved and organized the space’s supplies, filling the extra area in the master and secondary bedrooms.
While tidying, she had a lingering feeling that something was off.
