Chapter 4: Stockpiling (2)
After giving the boss the address at Hengshui Bay, Chu Xiao still went over to the rice wholesale market.
“Boss, how do you sell your rice here?” Chu Xiao glanced around at the crowd—some were supermarket owners, others were partner suppliers.
“What’s a kid like you doing here? Get lost, get lost, I’m busy.” The boss gave him a glance, then took a supplier’s order slip and went to handle stock.
Chu Xiao didn’t get annoyed and simply went to another shop.
“If you’re planning to open an online store, you’ll need a license. But if it’s a supermarket, you can take up to 10,000 bags of rice at once—the ten-kilo kind.”
The person receiving him was a middle-aged woman. Her voice was gentle and warm, like she was speaking to her own child.
“How many times at most can I order in a month?” Chu Xiao inspected the rice quality—each grain was full and round.
“Once every two weeks. At most, we can provide 25,000 bags a month.”
That answer already satisfied Chu Xiao.
After all, City A wasn’t the only wholesale base.
“Auntie, please tell me how much deposit is appropriate. Deliver it to this address. Payment upon delivery. Oh, and I see you also have flour—send some along too, same quantity as the rice.” Facing this gentle auntie, Chu Xiao was quite pleased.
“Alright, then I’ll just charge you 30,000 as the deposit. Leave me your phone number so I can arrange the truck and call you ahead of time, so the driver doesn’t make a wasted trip.”
Chu Xiao smiled and gave his number. Though he wanted to warn her of the coming apocalypse, he swallowed the words back.
Some things were better left unsaid.
The wholesale trading market was quite large. After a round, Chu Xiao found a large snack supplier.
In the apocalypse, snacks to kill boredom would skyrocket in value.
A single piece of chocolate could cost as much as 5,000.
“Young boss, what would you like to buy?” The snack supplier’s manager had already heard in the group chat about Chu Xiao, the rich second-generation who spent lavishly.
He was planning to fleece him hard.
“Do you have chocolate?” Chu Xiao looked at the manager’s overly eager smile and felt disgusted.
“Yes, yes! How much does young boss want?”
Chu Xiao glanced at the warehouse behind him, then looked back at the man.
“Forget it. I’ve already exceeded today’s budget. I’ll come back another day.”
There was no one else near this supplier.
Either the goods were bad, or the person was bad.
Chu Xiao waved him off and left.
Seeing Chu Xiao turn toward the daily necessities section, the manager spat viciously.
“Little bastard, you playing me?!”
Chu Xiao couldn’t be bothered with such scum. Anyway, once the apocalypse hit, they’d die sooner or later.
Not even worth dirtying his hands.
The daily necessities area was easier. Most customers were individuals buying small quantities to resell at residential gates.
In the end, Chu Xiao placed orders for 500,000 yuan worth of household paper, and 200,000 yuan worth of toiletries, body wash, and shampoo.
When the apocalypse arrived, a torrential downpour would flood low-lying areas. Once these things were soaked, they’d be useless.
After collecting all the receipts, Chu Xiao drove to the fruit wholesale base.
Compared to rice, flour, and oil, fruits were much easier to buy.
As long as you had money, you could even rent out an entire orchard.
But Chu Xiao didn’t plan to buy directly from the wholesale base. Instead, he heard about a rural orchard.
It covered a full 500 mu of land.
Inside were watermelons, peaches, grapes—every kind of fruit imaginable.
This trip cost him nearly 5.5 million as he contracted the orchard’s entire current stock.
Five tons of watermelon, one ton of peaches, two tons each of several varieties of grapes, plus plums, kiwis…
In the apocalypse, people hoarded everything for survival and leisure.
But fresh fruit? That was a priceless luxury.
Usually only the top elites could get any.
And now, Chu Xiao had blown all his current savings.
The money from selling his company would probably only arrive tonight.
The amount was large, needing tax processing and such, so it was slow.
Holding the orchard contract in hand, Chu Xiao happily drove back toward Hengshui Bay.
The elegant staff were already waiting for him.
“Boss Chu, please come in! It’s hot today—here’s an ice-cold Coke we just prepared for you.”
Chu Xiao parked, took the Coke, but waved off the offer.
“No need, I’ll sign the contract tomorrow. Get the documents ready.” With that, he strode off.
The doors and windows had already been installed; workers were finishing up.
“Boss Chu is here!”
Chu Xiao patted the door—looked good enough.
“Thank you all for your hard work. Have some snacks to fill your stomachs first.”
With that, he went to the storage room.
With a wave, all the snacks from that scummy manager were pulled into his space.
Perfect for giving out now as a favor.
When the storage room was opened, it was piled high with all sorts of snacks and drinks.
The workers hesitated to take any.
“No worries, eat whatever you like. Just sorry, I don’t have chilled water for you.” Chu Xiao was just that kind of person.
Kind-hearted.
Seeing workers labor for him, he could never treat them badly.
But as for that scummy manager—o( ̄︶ ̄)o. Leaving even a single crumb behind for him would’ve been Chu Xiao’s mistake.
Meanwhile, the workers in charge of inventory—and that manager—stared at the empty warehouse, already feeling ready to hang themselves.
After the workers left, deliveries from the wholesale market arrived one after another.
To avoid exposing his space ability, Chu Xiao had them spaced out.
Also, if a batch of supplies was too large, Chu Xiao would split it up.
So in and out, everyone only marveled at how huge the villa and estate were. None noticed that the supplies going into the underground storage kept vanishing batch by batch into Chu Xiao’s space—they just thought the storage never filled up.
Watching the little corner in his infinite space gradually pile higher, Chu Xiao smiled in satisfaction.
By then, the company’s sale money had also come in.
A total of 23.1 billion. After fees and taxes.
By the time Chu Xiao left, it was already dusk.
On his way home, he had already booked his plane ticket abroad.
“Xiao-ge, you’re back!” Jiang Ning was feeding the cat.
Banban purred in delight under Jiang Ning’s hand.
Chu Xiao: This is unfair! Damn lecherous cat!
It never treated him like that!
“Mm, got anything to eat?” Chu Xiao was a little hungry.
“I went out to buy some groceries. How about I make a few home dishes for you? Twice-cooked pork, tomato and egg stir-fry, and seaweed egg-drop soup?” Jiang Ning stood up. Banban, reluctant, followed him step by step.
“Damn perverted cat!” Chu Xiao cursed in his heart.
“Sounds good.” Watching Jiang Ning move deftly, Chu Xiao felt like he’d picked up a treasure.
His cooking was great too!
In the apocalypse, he might actually get to eat food that looked and tasted good.
Once people developed desires, they never stopped.
Just like Chu Xiao now—knowing he wouldn’t have to eat dead rats and garbage in the apocalypse, he hoarded like crazy.
[Note from the author: The numbers are exaggerated for writing purposes, dear readers. Don’t nitpick. Don’t calculate things like how a watermelon costs 0.5 yuan per jin, peaches 1 yuan per jin, and how much per ton. Really, thank you.]
