Chapter 33: Working Together—The Epidemic Is Under Control!
The hospital was shrouded in gloom.
More and more patients were being brought in.
Almost everyone was infected, showing symptoms of fever. The medical staff were holding on, working while sick themselves.
But the epidemic was spreading too fast!
Without medication to suppress it, the virus was wreaking havoc on people’s bodies.
Some with stronger abilities could still hold on.
But those with weaker abilities, or those who were already physically fragile—elderly, women, and children—were slipping into high fevers and unconsciousness.
Physical cooling methods were ineffective. Even in the midst of an ice-cold winter, the hospital felt stifling due to the heat radiating from the patients’ bodies.
“Director, most patients have now entered the second stage—internal organ damage and blood coughing.”
“And General Shi Hai’s grandson has already reached the third stage. If the virus completely destroys his body, he will…”
Liu Yun coughed up blood as she reported.
Her blood stained the electronic medical report, and she hurriedly wiped it away.
As the first doctor to treat Shi Yan, she had already entered the second stage herself.
The hospital director was in no better condition. Several senior physicians, all top-tier healing ability users, were helpless against this situation.
They were infected as well, barely managing to hold it at bay!
With a heavy heart, the director walked toward Shi Hai.
“Old friend… you must prepare yourself…”
Shi Hai’s eyes were empty. He was burning up with fever and understood how deadly this virus was.
He looked at his grandson being wheeled out of the emergency room.
The child’s entire body was flushed red, convulsing unconsciously.
Shi Hai took one look and didn’t dare to look again.
Helplessness spread through him, and his heart ached with sorrow.
He had already lost one grandson—was he about to lose another?
Just moments ago, the child had been calling him “Grandpa” so sweetly…
“Oh heavens, please show your mercy… I am willing to trade my life for my grandson’s!”
He knelt down.
As a man, as a grandfather, he bowed devoutly, praying to any unknown gods.
Everyone around him understood and remained silent.
Some people sobbed, unable to suppress their grief, as if they could already see their own tragic fate.
No divine presence responded.
The gods had abandoned them.
Shi Hai gradually fell into despair.
But just then, the hospital doors burst open, and a group of soldiers rushed in carrying boxes.
“The medicine is here! The Savior has sent medicine!”
One sentence lit up hope in everyone’s hearts.
Shi Hai stood up at once.
The Savior!
Yes, how could he forget? There was still the Savior!
The gods may have forsaken them, but the Savior had not!
The once listless senior doctors suddenly moved with more energy than anyone else.
They opened the boxes like people grasping at a lifeline!
“Ibuprofen! This is a fever reducer! Quick, give it to the child first!”
“He’s already unconscious—use an ability to deliver the medicine directly into his system!”
“Let me do it! My healing ability is water-based—it will help the medicine integrate into his bloodstream faster!”
An elderly physician enveloped the medicine with his power and infused it into Shi Yan’s flushed skin.
Everyone held their breath.
Even the patients who had resigned themselves to death gathered around silently, watching with bated breath, not even daring to cough.
It was as if they were witnessing a miracle.
And the miracle, as expected, happened.
As the medicine took effect, Shi Yan’s burning body began to sweat. The redness of his skin started to fade.
“His fever is dropping! The medicine is working!”
“Now give him the antiviral drug—use Lianhua Qingwen!”
After testing several antiviral options, the doctors selected Lianhua Qingwen.
The elderly physician dissolved the capsules and infused them into the child’s body.
Another doctor, using their abilities to monitor the internal changes, suddenly exclaimed in excitement:
“This is incredible! These medicines are miraculous! They’re working so fast—the virus is being completely suppressed! These are the medicines of our ancestors!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Shi Yan’s eyes fluttered open.
The child was weak, but he could recognize faces.
“Grandpa…”
Shi Hai’s tears streamed down his face, as if he had just returned from the gates of hell.
He wanted to hug his grandson but was afraid of being too rough.
“The child is still weak, old friend. Give him some vegetable porridge first.”
The city lord had prepared well—soft, nourishing vegetable porridge had already been delivered.
“You should take this antiviral liquid first. Your condition isn’t too severe, so drinking this will be enough.”
The hospital director handed Shi Hai a bottle of antiviral oral solution.
Shi Hai’s hands trembled as he took it.
Meanwhile, the doctors quickly distributed fever reducers, Lianhua Qingwen, and other antiviral drugs.
Those who had been sick for a long time received an extra dose of antibiotics.
Since their bodies were different from modern humans, the dosage was adjusted accordingly.
Soon, everyone’s fevers subsided, and the virus was brought under control.
“This medicine is amazing! I feel so much better—before, my whole body ached, but now I’m just a little weak!”
“Of course! This is the Savior’s medicine! It’s even sweet!”
“Mom, can I have some more of that medicine?”
“Don’t be silly! We’re better now, so we don’t need more medicine!”
Having been pulled back from death’s door, everyone’s mood lifted. No longer resigned to their fate, they regained their appetites and began enjoying their porridge.
“Although the situation has improved, as long as the virus isn’t completely eradicated, the risk of transmission remains.”
Liu Yun, who had also taken the medicine, could clearly feel the changes in her body.
“The Savior’s medicine is highly effective, but there’s too little of it.”
“Besides, I suspect many infected individuals are still hiding instead of seeking treatment. If they continue to spread the disease, the epidemic will return with a vengeance!”
Liu Yun was deeply worried.
“That is also my concern,” the hospital director agreed.
Other experienced doctors shared the same thoughts.
Would the Savior send more medicine?
Meanwhile, Gu Man was waiting outside a warehouse for the next batch of medicine to arrive.
It was deep into the night.
“Hey, come check this out! Isn’t this that viral car from the internet? Lucky us!”
“Dude, unlock it! Let’s take it for a spin!”
“I’ll take pictures, haha~”
A group of rowdy young men and women, slightly intoxicated and out of their minds, spotted Gu Man’s car parked on the roadside and decided to mess with it.
One of them, skilled at picking locks, fiddled with the vehicle for a while but couldn’t find the door handle.
“This car is weird… There’s no way to open it.”
Unconvinced, another young man tried again but found the same result.
The entire car was seamless, like a single piece of solid metal.
Frustrated, they grew impatient.
“If we can’t open it, let’s smash it!”
A girl smoking a cigarette grinned wickedly.
“Uh… I don’t know, this car looks expensive…”
One of the guys hesitated.
“What’s there to be afraid of? Everyone knows this area is under our control! If I can’t drive it, then it doesn’t deserve to exist! Smash it! If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility!”
A drunk young man, reeking of alcohol, ordered the others.
The group excitedly ran off to find tools—bricks, pipes—anything they could use to vandalize the car.
They were thrilled at the idea.
“Imagine how mad people online will be when they see this!”
“Haha! Let’s take pictures and upload them—watch them freak out!”
They felt like heroes, as if they were doing something grand.
Normally, Gu Man wouldn’t bother with people like this.
She preferred to avoid unnecessary trouble.
If money could solve a problem, then it wasn’t a big problem.
But tonight, she was already in a bad mood.
And right now, she absolutely could not tolerate this.
