After Xuan Yue left, Nan Muran and her group followed the Eagle family back to the residential complex of the machinery and electrical factory.
Even though the place had been thoroughly cleaned, there was still a lingering smell of blood in the hallway outside the Eagle family’s door, a scent that could not have been left by just one or two people. It was clear that, aside from the person left behind by the Eagle who needed to be interrogated by Nan Muran, there had been many others who came seeking food.
Once back home, the Fu family didn’t immediately start cleaning up the remaining items but instead waited in the living room.
The second son said that Miss Nan had a way of figuring out how the eldest daughter-in-law had died. This was the biggest knot in the Fu family’s heart, so everyone was on edge.
During that previous food search, the leader of the group had been a middle-aged man, around forty years old, strong and somewhat fierce.
Now, this fierce man was locked in a small room in the corner of the Fu family’s house, with the window wide open, and cold wind was blowing in. His left hand had lost three fingers, and his right hand had also lost one finger. Despite the cold wind, the room still reeked of blood.
As the temperature in the room dropped, the man’s life force was clearly weakening.
“Are you willing to tell me what really happened at that time?” Nan Muran asked directly as she walked in front of the man.
Her voice was cold, her tone calm, with no trace of pressure, almost magical, making it hard for anyone not to relax.
The already weak man froze, thinking he would face more violent treatment. He never expected this powerful woman to remain so composed.
Of course, Nan Muran’s direct and calm questioning was intentional. She had to guide his thoughts toward that event so she could see his memories.
“I’ve already told them, that woman wandered off by herself,” the man said weakly, looking at Nan Muran, his tone firm.
As the man spoke, Nan Muran saw in his mind the image of a woman in her thirties, with a gentle appearance, being pinned to the ground. In the vision, the woman was struggling wildly.
At the same time, she saw several men of different ages.
In the final moments of the man’s memory, a naked, disheveled woman picked up a knife and stabbed one of the men in the lower body.
In the end, the men joined forces to kill her, and the man she had stabbed was also killed.
The beautiful woman died a tragic death. To destroy the body and erase all evidence, they threw her, completely naked, into the zombie horde downstairs.
When Nan Muran told the Eagle about the vision, the Eagle’s blood froze, and his breathing became labored. His eyes turned red, and his body began to tremble.
Si Ye, Jiawu, and Qijin, who had entered the room, fell silent. This was the scene they least wanted to face.
The man in the corner looked at Nan Muran as if he had seen a ghost. This woman was terrifying. How did she know all of this?
The people who had abused Qiu Qiu back then were all dead.
The Eagle’s eyes were bloodshot as he looked at the man. Without hesitation, he took out a dagger and walked toward him. “You deserve to be sliced into a thousand pieces, beast…”
As he savagely killed the man, none of the four standing by stopped him.
Even the youngest, Qijin, wasn’t scared. Since the apocalypse began, he had seen too much of human nature, and some people no longer deserved to be called human.
When the man was completely lifeless and covered in blood, the Eagle finally stopped but was already in tears.
Si Ye placed a hand on his shoulder, his voice deep and suppressed. “Think about how to explain this to your family.”
Jiawu walked over and threw the man’s body out of the window, while Si Ye set the body on fire, reducing it to ashes.
He then controlled the water, cleaning up the blood stains on the floor and pouring the blood out.
Finally, the Eagle told his parents and brother that it was because his sister-in-law had found more food, and they had fought over it, causing her to be bitten by zombies.
Feeling guilty, they had lied to their parents and older brother when they returned.
“I knew they were lying. Qiu Qiu was always so steady, how could she have wandered off? These black-hearted people really deserve to die,” Fu mother said, her eyes filled with tears.
“Mom, Dad, Big Brother, Taozi, hurry up and pack. We’ll leave soon.” The Eagle, seeing his family in tears, quickly changed the subject.
The Eagle had already told the Fu family about the extreme cold and about taking them to the Western City safe base.
The Fu family didn’t think there was anything wrong with leaving home in the apocalypse, but they were worried about causing trouble for the Eagle. After hearing about the situation in Western City, they agreed to go.
Nan Muran thought for a moment and, without the Fu family noticing, took a bucket of gasoline from her space and handed it to the Eagle.
“Thank you, Sister Nan.” This was exactly what the family needed.
“Do you still need to be so polite with me?” Nan Muran gave him a look.
After packing up all the luggage, Fu mother specially cooked a large pot of noodles and served it to everyone.
Under normal circumstances, such treatment would have been seen as impolite, but in these times, it was the most luxurious meal. The Fu family could hardly afford the noodles, but the Eagle had provided them.
Fu mother’s cooking was excellent, and even Nan Muran, who was usually picky, was very satisfied.
“If you like it, eat more. I’ll get you another bowl,” Fu mother said gently, her care for Nan Muran stemming not just from her respect for her son but also from genuinely liking this young girl.
Nan Muran quickly waved her hand. “No need, Auntie, I’m full. I can’t eat anymore.”
Jiawu, Si Ye, and Qijin each had one bowl before putting down their chopsticks. Since they knew the pot wouldn’t be enough to fill everyone, they couldn’t let their hosts go without.
Seeing Fu mother about to insist, the group quickly stood up. “Auntie, we’ll go downstairs to warm up the car. We’ll leave once you’re done eating.”
Seeing the three adults and one child rush out the door, Fu mother slapped her son. “Second son, you didn’t even try to keep them here.”
“Mom, you don’t need to worry about them. They have food to eat,” the Eagle said, indifferent.
Fu mother sighed. Her son was good, but he lacked social awareness.
The Eagle quickly finished his last bite of noodles. “Dad, give me the car keys. I’ll go start the car.”
“I’ll go with you,” Taozi quickly stood up after finishing his noodles.
He wasn’t blind and had noticed that Fu mother hadn’t given him or his father any noodles, probably because she was worried the younger ones wouldn’t have enough to eat.
Once everyone had packed up their belongings and loaded them into the car, they set off for the Lan City Safe Base.
“Looks like there’s a car following us,” Jiawu frowned and said, noticing a vehicle not far behind.
Nan Muran leaned against Si Ye and found a comfortable position. “It’s other survivors from the machinery factory. Don’t worry about them.”
In this kind of weather, following them out was a risk. They might be heading for safety, but it could also be a death trap. Nan Muran couldn’t be bothered to care about them.
