Lin Jiajia also saw clearly: “It’s Rannan, she’s lost some weight.”
Just as Nan Muran got out of the car and was about to walk into the villa courtyard, the villa gate opened from the inside.
Guo Fei and Lin Jiajia stood excitedly at the door, silently watching her.
“Rannan…” Guo Fei looked at Nan Muran, feeling his eyes well up with tears.
“Feige.” Nan Muran quickly ran over and without hesitation hugged both of them. “Are you both okay?”
Lin Jiajia nodded repeatedly. “We’re fine. Rannan, thank you so much. If it weren’t for you…”
She couldn’t bear to think about what would have happened if Nan Muran hadn’t prepared everything in advance. What would their family of three be like now?
“We don’t need to say such things between us.”
“Come in.” The couple noticed that Jia Wu was following behind Nan Muran, so they hurriedly invited the two inside.
After all, there were zombies roaming outside, and it was not safe.
In the living room, there was a carefully built children’s area. Inside, Dudu had already learned to walk.
“Dudu, call Auntie…” Nan Muran looked at the chubby little one, feeling very happy.
In the previous life, Dudu had not survived the first heavy rain of the apocalypse due to a high fever, and had forever remained at the age of one.
“Rannan, don’t bother him, have some hot tea and warm up.” Lin Jiajia smiled and called her over. Considering the time, it was already November, and the weather outside felt chilly after the autumn rain.
Nan Muran sat back on the sofa and introduced Jia Wu and Guo Fei to each other.
Since she had heard that Jia Wu had been teaching Nan Muran self-defense skills, Guo Fei and Lin Jiajia naturally assumed that Nan Muran had managed to survive the apocalypse so far because Jia Wu had been protecting her.
Out of gratitude, the couple became even more enthusiastic towards Jia Wu.
This made Jia Wu, who was usually cold and hard, feel quite uncomfortable.
“Alright, stop busying yourself with preparations. We can’t stay too long, we have to leave soon.”
“You can’t leave. You must stay for lunch.” Without Guo Fei saying anything, Lin Jiajia, who was standing on the side, spoke with a determined tone, looking at Nan Muran.
Nan Muran nodded. “Alright, just in time, I have something to discuss with Feige.”
“Then, I’ll go cook. You two can chat.” Lin Jiajia went into the kitchen to start working.
Since they were staying for lunch, Jia Wu went outside to bring down the tank and Da Fu from the car.
Dudu, who had been playing alone in the children’s area, had finally found a new playmate. To avoid the two little ones hurting him, Jia Wu had to keep an eye on them.
The chubby Dudu made Jia Wu, usually so cold and hard, soften a little.
In the study on the first floor, Guo Fei looked at Nan Muran and said, “Rannan, is there something you need to say?”
“Feige, what are your plans for the future?” Given the closeness between them, Nan Muran didn’t need to beat around the bush.
Guo Fei froze for a moment. What did she mean by “plans for the future”?
In the apocalypse, societal systems had completely collapsed, and the evil in human nature had been infinitely magnified, with harsh environments coming one after another. Surviving had already been a stroke of luck. What else was there to look forward to?
Nan Muran naturally understood Guo Fei’s thoughts. “Feige, Nanshan Yunyuan will eventually establish a military base. Once the base is built, the troops will begin to search for survivors, and survivors will gather in large numbers. Wherever people gather, disputes are inevitable.”
“Naturally, strong management will be required to maintain the new system under the apocalypse.”
“You want me to be involved in managing the base?” Guo Fei asked, his tone certain.
“Yes, I need you to be strong enough to be my support.” Nan Muran did not hide anything when facing Guo Fei.
The apocalypse had only just begun, but Dr. Jin’s underground laboratory had already existed. This meant there must be a force behind them.
She wasn’t foolish enough to fight alone against such power.
Guo Fei suddenly smiled. “Lower-class people labor physically, middle-class people labor intellectually, and upper-class people labor with people.”
Societal resources, whether before or after the apocalypse, were limited. To obtain them, one had to actively fight for them.
He was very familiar with all of this, so he could understand the deeper meaning in Nan Muran’s words. “Rannan, you’ve really grown up.”
“I promise you, I will do my best to meet your expectations.”
“Feige, I’m sure you can do it.” Nan Muran had complete confidence in Guo Fei on this point.
Because Guo Fei’s path of growth had been one of constant upward mobility.
After reaching an understanding, the two of them left the study. They hadn’t taken many steps when they suddenly heard the chaotic sounds of someone calling for help from outside.
“Help, help us…”
Jia Wu immediately became alert, and Lin Jiajia, who had been busy in the kitchen, rushed out as well.
The four of them instinctively moved towards the villa’s wall-mounted surveillance monitor.
“Is someone being pursued from behind? Are they zombies?” Guo Fei asked, unsure.
Nan Muran shook her head. “There are zombies behind, but it seems like they saw a savior in front.”
“Mu Ge, let’s go out and check the situation.”
Once they left the villa’s front courtyard, they discovered that several military off-road vehicles were parked about two villas down to the right.
“It’s the military.” Jia Wu quickly assessed the situation.
Nan Muran nodded. Based on the timeline from the previous life, they should be a reconnaissance team sent by the HB military.
Their purpose was to find a suitable location in the western city area to establish a military safe base.
“Master, there’s more to this chapter, please click next to continue reading; the next part is even more exciting!”
Several military vehicles came driving over, encountering many zombies along the way, but very few living people. They had just rescued someone who was so scared they couldn’t even speak clearly.
Looking up, they saw a man and a woman just ahead.
The leader of the first off-road vehicle was a colonel, with a square face and a tall stature, looking dignified.
After seeing them clearly, he immediately got out of the vehicle and walked toward them.
Behind him was a younger, somewhat baby-faced security guard.
“Chen Jianguo.” Nan Muran didn’t expect to run into someone from her previous life on this trip.
In the previous life, this man eventually became the leader of the Western City military base.
Chen Jianguo was upright, selfless, and dedicated to the country and its people. That was why the military base in Western City had grown strong under his leadership, with a strict system, making it the safest place in the surrounding region by the end of the apocalypse.
If he had any shortcomings, it would be his coldness and rigidity.
Chen Jianguo took the lead in greeting them. Although he had tried to suppress the killing aura around him to appear more approachable, it still intimidated others. “Hello.”
“Hello.” Nan Muran responded with a smile, unfazed by the pressure he gave off.
“We’re from the HB military district and want to understand the situation in this villa area. Would that be convenient for you?” Chen Jianguo’s reaction made Nan Muran realize that he had relaxed when he saw how she was unaffected by his imposing presence.
Because Jia Wu had positioned himself protectively behind Nan Muran, it became clear to Chen Jianguo that she was the one in charge here, and his words were directed to her.
