When Nan Muran and Si Ye stepped out into the corridor, everyone on the sixth floor had come out to check the situation after hearing Liu Mei’s somewhat tragic and suppressed cries.
Apart from their group of nine, there were also Xingchen and Yin Yue.
Upon realizing that Xingchen and Yin Yue were staying on the same floor, they frowned slightly. Were the hotel owner and staff doing this on purpose?
“What’s up with the owner’s voice? It sounds strange,” Eagle said, too lazy to acknowledge the two strangers who had suddenly appeared, frowning.
Han Yingtian nodded. “Indeed, something’s off. It sounds like she’s in pain.”
Jia Wu looked at their reactions and fell into deep thought, uncertain whether it was exactly what he was thinking.
Seeing the confused expressions on everyone else’s faces, Jia Wu shook his head helplessly. As expected, as a mercenary, he had seen a lot.
Suddenly, Liu Mei’s voice rang out again, clearly suppressed but unmistakably filled with pain.
The sound caused Jia Wu to freeze. Had things gone wrong?
But he hoped it wasn’t fatal.
Considering Liu Mei’s kindness today, Nan Muran thought for a moment and walked to the bronze-colored door. She knocked directly. “Liu boss, are you there?”
The painful groans inside stopped abruptly at the sound of her voice.
After a short while, the closed bronze-colored, intricately carved door opened a small crack.
Liu Mei leaned against the door, her face deathly pale with no color left, but she smiled faintly at Nan Muran at the doorway. “It’s so late. Why aren’t you asleep yet, sister?”
“Are you alright?” Nan Muran approached the door, feeling the strong scent of blood from inside. Her tone carried more concern than before.
The most important thing was that Nan Muran sensed the presence of a plant inside the room. It was powerful, yet the air around it carried a strangely eerie aura.
Liu Mei looked at her and smiled, shaking her head, her beauty undiminished. “I’m fine. Thank you for your concern. It’s late now, so you all should go back and sleep.”
Since she said it herself and clearly didn’t intend to explain further, the others exchanged looks before returning to their rooms.
Back in her room, Nan Muran curled up on the sofa.
Si Ye sat beside her and absentmindedly touched her long hair. “Thankfully, it’s dry. Otherwise, with this cold weather, you might catch a cold.”
Nan Muran instinctively snuggled into his arms, finding a comfortable spot. “In Liu Mei’s room, it seems there’s a very powerful mutated plant.”
“Mutated plant?” Si Ye also thought that both the hotel and Liu Mei were quite strange but hadn’t expected a mutated plant.
“And there’s a strong scent of blood. It’s very dark inside too. This situation is really odd,” Nan Muran continued. Even in the post-apocalyptic world, mutated plants still needed photosynthesis.
But Liu Mei’s bronze-colored door obviously had no light source.
Yet inside, there was a powerful plant that needed photosynthesis.
“Do you want to know what’s going on inside?” Si Ye asked with a smile, having guessed her thoughts.
Nan Muran nodded, somewhat helpless. “I can’t help it. I’m really curious about this strange plant that appeared out of nowhere.”
Si Ye tightened his arm around her and nodded. “I understand.”
Nan Muran reached out and gently touched the small Liu and Xiao Bai on her left wrist. “Can you sense the plant’s presence?”
Xiao Liu: I can sense the plant, but I’m not sure. I really want to go see it.
Xiao Bai: I’ll go with you.
Xiao Liu: Muran, let’s go check it out. We’ll tell you what we find when we get back.
Two thin threads of light, like strands of silk, left Nan Muran’s wrist.
Since they needed time to gather information, Nan Muran casually pulled out a tablet from her storage space and tilted her head to ask Si Ye, “Do you have any movies or TV shows you want to watch?”
“I’d like to watch ‘Hell’s Infantry,’ do you have it?” Si Ye made a request.
Nan Muran agreed readily. “I like it too.”
She opened the tablet and found the content she had downloaded before the apocalypse.
The two of them leaned together, sipping on milk tea and eating popcorn, enjoying the show.
Gunshots, artillery fire, tank sounds, explosions… all the elements of war played out—brutality, tragedy, realism, inevitable death.
Meanwhile, behind the bronze door, Liu Mei looked at the motionless, giant figure in the dark, somewhat helpless. “We’re just doing what we need to do. There’s no need to feel guilty.”
After a long pause, the figure moved slightly forward. Its terrifying appearance made one want to scream in fright.
Standing about two meters tall, except for its eyes, its entire body resembled the cracked bark of an old tree.
Even its lips were cracked like hard, dry bark. Most importantly, its head had sprouted numerous branches, which were even starting to bud.
“Sorry,” a hoarse, deep voice sounded. Through the guilt in the figure’s eyes, it was clear the words came from it.
Liu Mei’s gaze changed, showing a hint of impatience mixed with some sympathy. “I told you, we’re just doing what we need to do.”
The figure lowered its head, silent, and Liu Mei stood up, walking straight toward the exit.
Which idiot had arranged for these people to stay on the sixth floor? It was really frustrating.
Suddenly, a dry, old branch shot out and wrapped around her, pulling her back and throwing her into a dark corner.
Liu Mei winced in pain from the fall and angrily yelled, “Are you crazy?”
However, from the sound of her fall, it seemed she hadn’t been hurt. It was more like she had been tossed onto a large bed.
The figure glanced back helplessly before disappearing with her into the deep darkness of the room.
“Don’t touch me…” Liu Mei’s voice was filled with anger as she sensed the figure’s approach.
(Note: A bit frustrating. Due to review restrictions, I had to cut 500 words. Honestly, I didn’t write anything overly explicit.)
In the end, all that was left to say was that it was a thrilling spectacle, though indescribable.
Eventually, Liu Mei, feeling extremely uncomfortable in her body, was left in a state of near tears.
Back in the other room, Nan Muran leaned against Si Ye’s chest, blinking her eyes as she listened to Xiao Liu and Xiao Bai’s strange actions and descriptions. She had no idea what was going on and only felt more confused.
“A tree man with eyes? What happened next? What’s going on?” Nan Muran looked at the two of them, confused.
Xiao Liu: Liu Mei seems to be in a lot of pain. She’s crying terribly, and there’s a lot of blood on her leg.
Xiao Bai: The tree man is pressing down on Liu Mei. They look really strange.
Xiao Liu: That’s a tree man fused with a level seven mutated plant. It’s nourished by a lot of Yin blood, and it’s really strong. I might not even be able to beat it.
