“The way these people fight is completely reckless — charging forward without thinking about retreat at all. If they die, they deserve it,” the Eagle sneered angrily.
These idiots weren’t just getting themselves killed — they were endangering everyone else too.
Nan Muran glanced at Xi He and Si Ye, signaling them to use their water abilities to extinguish the flames throughout the corridor.
The two quickly coordinated. Water began spreading from the doorway of their room outward in both directions, and soon, the once fiercely burning corridor turned into a dripping, water-curtained passage under their relentless water attacks.
Outside, Liu Mei watched the flames completely die out and couldn’t help but feel a surge of relief at having survived.
When she saw Nan Muran and her group emerge, her charming eyes curved into an uninhibited smile. “I really underestimated you, little sister.”
Nan Muran listened to her teasing, glancing at the bruises marring Liu Mei’s disheveled dress, and raised an eyebrow slightly. “You’re already in such a mess and still in the mood for jokes?”
“From childhood till now, for over thirty years, has there ever been a day I wasn’t a mess?” Liu Mei looked at Nan Muran, bitterness almost spilling from her voice.
She was someone who had survived by selling everything she had — before the apocalypse, and even more so after. Struggling and crawling through hardship.
Lowering her head, she caught sight of the countless scars across her pale skin. Her smile became even more brazen.
Nan Muran turned, pulled a gray tactical jacket from her backpack, and tossed it to her. “Put it on.”
Feeling the stiff concern in Nan Muran’s gesture, Liu Mei suddenly smiled. “Thank you, little sister.”
She quickly put on the jacket, her gaze softening as she looked at Nan Muran.
Because of Nan Muran and her team’s appearance, the two assistants Stardust had left outside immediately became alert. One boss was already hard enough to deal with — now there were even more strong reinforcements. It seemed today’s mission was doomed.
The two exchanged a glance and swiftly made a decision: no matter what, they had to take care of the hotel owner first.
The female ability user quickly gathered her power, sending a sharp wind blade slicing toward Liu Mei’s vulnerable nape.
Liu Mei herself was powerless and had no time to dodge such a fatal attack.
On the sixth floor, the bloodline members of Evernight had already been mostly wiped out by the fire. No one else could step in to save her.
Just then, Xiao Liu shot out from Nan Muran’s hand at a speed so fast it was almost eerie, deftly sweeping aside the incoming wind blade with its willow branches.
At the same time, Xiaobai, who had stayed inside to watch the commotion, also burst out.
The two of them coordinated perfectly, one in front and one behind, charging at the two ability users.
Nan Muran’s plant ability had now reached the peak of level 4. Even with some restrictions, Xiao Liu could unleash the strength of a level 6 mutated plant. Together with Xiaobai, who was at the peak of level 5, dealing with two early-stage level 4 ability users was almost effortless.
The two enemies, facing Xiao Liu and Xiaobai’s onslaught, barely had any strength to fight back.
Since the beginning of the apocalypse, they had been among the earliest to awaken abilities. They rarely encountered beings stronger than themselves. They had even killed many mutated plants for their fruits and had once successfully slain a higher-level mutated plant.
But these two plants were completely different.
The mutated plants they encountered before were often sluggish — even if strong, they couldn’t properly use their power.
But Xiao Liu and Xiaobai not only moved nimbly but even showed actual combat instincts.
When the fire-type ability user hurled a fireball, Xiao Liu simply rolled up water from the floor to extinguish it, leaving the attacker dumbfounded.
What the hell — was this even a mutated plant?
How could a mutated plant be this smart?
Xiao Liu: So dumb. We’re experienced mutated plants, you know?
Xiaobai: They’re so bad! Xiao Liu, can we eat their brains? They’re yellow and look like big treasures!
Xiao Liu: Nan Muran, we want to eat their brains. Can we?
Although they were very eager to munch on the “yellow treasures,” they still waited for Nan Muran’s permission. If she said no, they wouldn’t do it.
Nan Muran nodded. “Up to you. Just don’t make it too bloody.”
Getting her approval, Xiao Liu and Xiaobai fell into a frenzy.
The two little plants began attacking the two ability users without any restraint. The man and woman — who could have otherwise rampaged across the apocalypse — found themselves constantly forced to retreat.
“Stardust, we can’t hold on!” the male ability user shouted toward the inside.
Nan Muran’s pupils narrowed slightly. “So… they want to run?”
“Looks like it,” Si Ye nodded.
Han Yingting sneered. “Fighting alongside teammates like that — what a joke.”
While the battle inside raged fiercely, those two outside were actually thinking of fleeing. Did they not realize that if they abandoned their comrades, the ones inside would surely die too?
“Don’t let them get away,” Nan Muran said coldly.
At the same time, Stardust — who had been locked in battle with the treant — panicked when he heard the shout, instinctively trying to retreat to check the situation outside.
Meanwhile, Xiaobai and Xiao Liu had already finished off the two ability users.
Seeing the yellow treasures right before them, the two little plants were overjoyed. They had already agreed: one treasure each, fair and square.
But just as they were about to snatch their prizes, they watched helplessly as a withered branch suddenly shot out and stole the treasures away.
The opponent moved so fast that both plants were stunned.
“That’s just shameless!” Chengcheng cried out in their defense.
Everyone else froze for a moment too. It was obvious the treant had pulled the trick.
Xiao Liu and Xiaobai wanted to charge in and start a fight but thought better of it and instead pitifully retreated to wrap themselves around Nan Muran’s wrist.
Their meaning was clear: the yellow treasures had to be taken back!
Looking at the two little plants curled around Nan Muran’s wrist again, Liu Mei’s eyes filled with wild joy.
“Little sister, you’re a plant-type ability user too, aren’t you?”
