Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 137: Entering Lan City

Si Ye was not at all surprised that Nan Muran would ask them this question, and naturally, he had no intention of hiding anything from her. “Commander Chen took his position.”

“What kind of person is he?” Nan Muran remembered that in her previous life, this old man died on the battlefield fighting against the zombie army.

The reputation of the Western City safety base was very good, so it didn’t make sense for him to be a bad person.

“An old soldier who came down from the battlefield—upright, honest, wise, and quick-witted. After leaving the Blood Wolf Special Forces, he went to the WJ Corps as the overall commander.

To be honest, from what I know of him, I can’t believe he’s someone who would help a tyrant do evil.” Si Ye had one hand around Nan Muran, who was leaning against him.

With the other hand, he skillfully opened his backpack, took out some alkaline water bread and a bottle of water, and handed them to her.

They had been busy all day and had only eaten breakfast, so Nan Muran felt a little hungry.

While chewing on the bread, she spoke to the others: “I saw quite a few prisoners in the buildings outside the valley. Among them were the superpowered people that Zhou Ling had brought from the Lan City safety base. But it looks like they haven’t suffered much harm, apart from being deprived of freedom.”

“Are they Qi Yangfan’s group?” Eagle still remembered these people.

At the Lan City safety base, only two of Zhou’s superpowered people were qualified to be team leaders: one was Qi Yangfan, and the other was Ling Yuan, who had followed Zhou Ling.

So, it should have been another superpowered team led by Qi Yangfan that ran into trouble.

Nan Muran nodded and didn’t elaborate further.

The group didn’t continue the conversation, as they all understood that, given the situation just now, they could not have gone out to rescue anyone.

“It’s safer for them to stay there as prisoners than to be released in this situation,” Eagle commented frankly.

After all, if they were released, their abilities wouldn’t allow them to escape the encirclement of the reinforced battalion, and they could be killed instantly. It was better for them to stay alive as prisoners.

In the apocalypse, surviving was the most important thing.

Suddenly, Xiao Liu reminded Nan Muran: “Ranyan, they’ve realized they went in the wrong direction, and they’re on their way here.”

“The team is catching up with us. Should we abandon the car and head into the mountains, or keep going?”

Nan Muran didn’t make the decision herself.

Since she had Si Ye and Eagle with her, they were the best ones to handle this situation, especially with their experience with former comrades.

“If they come after us, Han Yingtian and the others will be safe,” Jia Wu said, relieved that Qi Jin had followed Han Yingtian. Although they hadn’t spent much time together, Jia Wu treated Qi Jin like one of his own and really liked how the little guy was well-behaved and sensible.

Nan Muran nodded. “But it seems like we need to make more noise on our side.”

“Let’s drive straight into Lan City,” Si Ye said directly to Eagle, who was driving.

“Into Lan City? That will make enough noise. But the problem is, it’s almost dark, and zombies have extremely sensitive hearing and reactions. If we rush into Lan City, we’ll be fine, but the others might not be,” Jia Wu kindly reminded.

He could tell that Si Ye, Eagle, and Nan Muran had no intention of directly confronting the soldiers, and were deliberately being lenient to save their lives.

The reason Si Ye made this decision was that he knew the old commander well. He was betting that the old commander would never allow his soldiers to die in vain. And the rule in the apocalypse was clear: never enter zombie-infested urban areas at night.

“They may not follow us into the city.”

Eagle understood immediately after hearing Si Ye: “That’s true, the old commander is likely to give them a strict order.”

Sure enough, when their car entered the Lan City area, the military vehicles that had been chasing them stopped at the city entrance.

Several dozen soldiers immediately got out of the vehicles.

“Captain, they’ve driven into the city,” one of the soldiers said anxiously. These people hadn’t harmed their soldiers, so they didn’t seem like the worst of the worst. It would be a shame for them to die like this.

“These people really aren’t afraid of death. They dared to enter a zombie-infested city at night,” one of the squad leaders couldn’t help but comment.

The person being called “Captain” sighed and said solemnly, “Send a squad to report back, and the rest of you stay here.”

Soon, two military vehicles turned around and headed back to the base in the valley.

Meanwhile, after Nan Muran and the others entered the city, they immediately found that the city was swarming with zombies. They crashed through several zombies that came too close, but they couldn’t travel much farther.

“Wow, this is like fighting leeches,” Eagle said, his scalp tingling as he watched the zombies draw closer.

“Find a taller building to hide in first, and then look for a way out,” Nan Muran gestured to Jia Wu, who was driving.

At night, it was best not to fight zombies, or they would get swarmed and overwhelmed.

“There’s a commercial building on the left rear,” Jia Wu said, pointing to a high-rise building with a glass curtain wall in the distance.

Luckily, the distance wasn’t too far, and there weren’t many zombies on the road.

Jia Wu quickly reversed the car, managing to park in front of the commercial building before they were fully surrounded by zombies.

The group quickly got out of the car and dealt with the zombies that got too close. But they didn’t linger, immediately entering the building.

Nan Muran also made sure to store the car in her space—good, another off-road warrior added to her collection.

They ascended the stairs in the commercial building, blocking the stairs with cabinets, sofas, and other random debris from the lobby to prevent zombies from following their scent.

They first went up to the second floor.

The second floor was large, with characteristic sofas and tables. Before the apocalypse, it must have been a high-end café. There were a few zombies wandering around in standard uniforms.

Jia Wu casually dealt with a few of the wandering zombies, collected their cores, and tossed the bodies into a corner.

Si Ye casually set the bodies on fire, and soon, the bodies turned to ash.

Nan Muran was surprised to see how the fire barely created any flames or smoke. It seemed Si Ye’s control over his abilities had become even more refined.

“I looked closely just now; this building is a connected complex with a bridge leading to the other side of the building,” Eagle said, scanning the area ahead.

Although the soldiers wouldn’t enter the city, they couldn’t just sit here and wait to die.

“In about an hour and a half, the main force will arrive. Once they block the main roads of Lan City, we won’t be able to leave,” Si Ye said, taking out a map from his backpack.

Eagle moved a table over at the right time, and they quickly spread out the map. Jia Wu also came over, and the three of them rapidly planned the route to leave Lan City.

They were deep in discussion when…
