The winter morning sunlight was gentle, but when Nan Muran woke up and looked at Si Ye lying beside her, she felt an immense warmth.
She reached out and gently touched his brows and eyes. He truly had an irresistible face—his high, arched eyebrows, the hump of his nose, full, petal-like lips, and the perfect proportions of his face, including the ideal ratio of length to width, jawline, and side angles of his cheeks. His entire face seemed enhanced, like it had been touched by a special effect.
As an art student, Nan Muran was sensitive to the proportions of people’s faces, and she found no flaws at all.
If this face were paired with his broad shoulders, narrow waist, and slim physique, combined with his perfect 1.9-meter height, he could easily break into the entertainment industry, maybe even dominate Asia and move on to conquer the world.
“Is it that good-looking?” Si Ye’s voice had a hint of restrained amusement.
Nan Muran nodded. “From the perspective of an art student, it’s perfect.”
Si Ye smiled and pulled her into his arms, covering her with the blanket to keep her warm. “Are you getting up?”
Nan Muran shook her head. “I’ll get up in a bit.”
“Si Ye, do you remember when we first met?”
“Not clearly, but I vaguely recall that you were a cold-hearted little bald head back then, and I was like a walking corpse.”
Nan Muran sighed lightly. “Yeah.”
Si Ye’s memories weren’t complete; they were more like fragmented moments or fleeting images. Nan Muran helped fill in the gaps.
They lay face to face in bed, chatting, and what had once been their painful past now became something they could talk about and even laugh about.
Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted their conversation.
“It should be Eagle. Probably in a hurry.”
“Let’s get up.” Nan Muran stretched lazily.
Si Ye helped her sit up.
Before they had parted the night before, they had already agreed to head to Eagle’s hometown today.
When they were ready to leave, they found out that Han Yingtian and the others had already left overnight.
“Little sister, I…” Liu Mei looked at Nan Muran, wanting to speak but hesitating.
Nan Muran frowned slightly. “Do you want to see the tree man?”
“I just wanted to ask you, back then, it…” Liu Mei faltered, thinking about the torment and humiliation she had suffered, unwilling to let it remain unresolved.
Hearing this, Nan Muran immediately understood. After thinking for a moment, she said, “It’s almost eleven now. Let’s leave after we have lunch.”
Eagle’s pupils slightly dilated. So, they were going to openly have a meal together.
Liu Mei smiled when she heard this. “I’ll treat you to this meal.”
“That’s just what I wanted.” Nan Muran had no intention of being polite.
But in the end, Si Ye and the others stayed in the main hall while Nan Muran and Liu Mei went into a private room.
Looking at the table full of meats, vegetables, fruits, and rice, Nan Muran couldn’t help but ask, “This hotel seems to have everything.”
“As long as I stay in this hotel, I have an endless supply of ingredients. They replenish automatically every day. As for why, I can’t really explain,” Liu Mei admitted honestly.
Having seen all sorts of strange things since the apocalypse, Nan Muran didn’t ask further.
“Little sister, Huai Feng said that tree man…” Liu Mei trailed off.
Nan Muran put down her chopsticks and quietly looked at her. “Do you really believe what he said? That the mutated plants were the ones who tormented and hurt you?”
Liu Mei’s heart ached, and tears fell.
“Even if plants are mutated, they’re still pure and simple. It’s difficult for them to have human emotions, let alone abuse a person,” Nan Muran continued, leaving no room for doubt.
Liu Mei, who had been crying, suddenly smiled, her smile painful and full of sorrow. “Actually, I’ve thought of it, but I didn’t want to believe that Huai Feng would treat me that way. Ten years of affection.”
Nan Muran knew Liu Mei needed to vent, so she quietly continued eating and waited for what was coming next.
“These men in the hotel, I need them, and I’ve been entangled with them. But what I truly need are their sperm and embryos, to maintain our current way of life.”
Nan Muran stopped suddenly, incredulously setting down her chopsticks. “Is it what you need, or what Eternal Night needs?”
“Eternal Night needs my embryos to nourish it. As long as Eternal Night survives, I can have everything I have now. I can’t bear to see Huai Feng cast into the forest, completely devoured by the trees. I also can’t endure the hardships of the apocalypse. I can only live here in filth, keeping him alive as well,” Liu Mei said, taking a big gulp of wine, bitter and helpless as she spoke.
Nan Muran continued eating from her plate, remaining silent. Surviving in the apocalypse was hard for everyone, and she didn’t feel qualified to judge others’ choices.
“Do you think I’m disgusting too?” Liu Mei looked at Nan Muran, her usual charming and proud gaze now tinged with a hint of insecurity.
“Before the apocalypse, everyone lived hard, let alone now. Being alive is good enough. As for the methods and posture we use to survive, that’s not as important,” Nan Muran replied faintly.
This was the first time Liu Mei encountered someone who faced her actions so indifferently—without criticism, without blame, and without approval.
But oddly enough, this attitude made all the entanglements in her heart unravel in an instant.
“Can Eternal Night move around?” Nan Muran suddenly asked.
“It can,” Liu Mei answered instinctively.
“Don’t confine yourself here. Go wherever you want. You have food, drinks, and handsome men to sleep with—why not live a carefree life?” Nan Muran teased as she looked at Liu Mei.
Liu Mei’s former despondency and helplessness were instantly swept away by Nan Muran’s words, and she smiled through her tears. “With you flattering me like this, I’ll cover the dry rations for you guys.”
“Forget the dry rations. Your cooking’s not bad. Make me more cooked meals. If you need anything, I’ll pay you in exchange,” Nan Muran wasn’t the type to let others get the better of her.
Liu Mei looked at Nan Muran. “I don’t need anything else, just some skincare products and some clean, nice clothes.”
Nan Muran smiled. “That’s easy.”
With a wave of her hand, several sets of international top-brand products appeared on the table.
Liu Mei was stunned. “Are you a space-type ability user? You’re amazing!”
“I guess I’ve played the role of a genie for you.”
“Little sister, you’re so generous. Don’t worry, I’ll have the kitchen prepare all the ingredients they can find today for you,” Liu Mei smiled brightly, all her emotions gone.
Nan Muran casually took out some clothes for her, even including matching jewelry and high heels.
Liu Mei looked at everything in front of her and couldn’t help but adore it. Naturally, she was extremely gracious.
In the kitchen of Eternal Night Hotel:
Nan Muran looked at the two hundred portions of food prepared by the chef and couldn’t help but feel her eyebrows twitch. The most precious thing in the apocalypse was food. She had exchanged a pile of skincare products and clothes for so much food—she had made a great deal. “Since you’re so generous, I won’t be polite.”
As she took all the food, Liu Mei smiled warmly. “I’ve decided. I’ll settle in the Lan City base.”
Nan Muran didn’t say much. They were just passing acquaintances, and because they were both women, they had a bit more sympathy for each other, helping each other out.
But that was all. There was no need to get involved too deeply.
