Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains
Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 150 — The Fisherman Reaps the Rewards

The old tiger standing at the door of the Taoist temple’s rear hall saw three young wolves enter the temple, its eyes full of murderous intent sweeping over them.

Then, without holding back, it let out a deafening roar that pierced through the mountains and forests, striking fear into the hearts of anyone who heard it. In the wilderness, having its territory invaded was absolutely intolerable.

At the same time, a ball of fire, roughly the size of a soccer ball, shot from the tiger’s mouth. The fireball agilely split into three in midair, each targeting one of the three wolves entering the temple’s backyard.

Seeing that the wolves’ fur was about to be ignited by the searing fireballs—

Three water balls, identical in size to the fireballs, suddenly appeared out of thin air, dousing and extinguishing the tiger’s attack.

The tiger seethed with rage at seeing its supernatural ability so easily neutralized.

That cunning white wolf! If it weren’t for the treasures hidden in the cave behind the mountain that allowed it to level up so quickly, how would a mighty king of the forest like himself have reason to fear them?

And now even the wolf’s subordinates, these useless minions, dared to act arrogantly in front of him, as if the forest king was a joke.

The tiger’s whiskers quivered. With a fierce roar, it leapt forward at lightning speed, lunging at the nearest gray wolf.

Sensing the tiger’s intent, the gray wolf stopped advancing and dodged just in time. But it was still a step too late. Although it narrowly avoided death, the tiger’s sharp claws left several deep gashes on its body, cutting down to the bone.

Landing after the successful strike, the tiger swiftly spun around, its furious roars echoing as its attacks grew even faster and fiercer — clearly determined to tear apart these three foolish wolves.

Even with the wolf king outside the temple shooting out ice blades to help, the three young wolves were still no match for the tiger, the true king of the forest. Within just five minutes of fighting, the three wolves had been heavily wounded and thrown to the ground, barely clinging to life.

“There are wolves trying to climb over the back wall into the temple,” the eagle reported.

As he spoke, two wolves had already scaled the temple’s back wall and slipped inside.

At the same time, three strong wolves charged through the front gate to draw the tiger’s attention, creating a diversion for their companions.

The three wolves and the tiger faced off in the courtyard in front of the rear hall. The wolves bared their teeth, ready to pounce, while the tiger growled low and threateningly — yet neither side rushed to act.

Meanwhile, the two wolves that had slipped in earlier took advantage of the standoff and sneaked into the rear hall where the people from the electrical factory were hiding.

The Fu family, who had just relaxed a little because of the eagle’s presence, changed expressions the moment they saw the wolves enter.

The children’s fearful crying grew louder, and the two wolves began deliberately launching fireballs and wind blades, forcing the people to retreat toward the doorway.

The eagle’s family had no choice but to follow the crowd toward the exit.

Outside in the courtyard, even though it was three against one, the tiger still managed to maul one of the wolves and throw it to the ground.

Hearing the tiger’s thunderous roar shake the whole mountain, the little animals in the distance that had been hopping about joyfully all scurried back to their dens in fear.

Driven out of the hall by the wolves, the electrical factory workers were then trapped by the tiger in the courtyard. They huddled under the eaves, not daring to move — trapped between wolves and tiger, unable to advance or retreat.

Fu Chao, the eagle’s elder brother, and his childhood friend tightly shielded their parents between them, frozen in place by fear at the sight in front of them. Even the children and women who had been crying moments ago were now too terrified to make a sound.

“The wolves… aren’t trying to fight?” The eagle said uncertainly.

If they intended to fight, they wouldn’t have gone about chasing people away so sneakily. But then again, doing things this way seemed a bit foolish too.

Nan Muran, who had been observing the Taoist temple and the surrounding area, shook her head. “The wolf king is about to make his move.”

Sure enough, the pure white wolf king leapt down from a nearby hilltop and strode elegantly into the temple, heading straight for the backyard to confront the tiger.

Wolf King: Return all the food, and we will leave.

Tiger: Fine — if you give up the mountain cave behind the mountain.

Wolf King: Absolutely not.

Tiger: Then it’s survival of the fittest. One mountain cannot have two kings — especially not you.

From their brief exchange, it was clear: both sides were determined to settle things with a final battle.

Ice blades and massive fireballs began flying across the small backyard.

The wolf king’s snowy white form glowed silver under the moonlight. The tiger’s golden fur shimmered like flowing sands. Besides their supernatural attacks, the two mutated beasts also began relying on their natural instincts, pouncing and biting at each other viciously.

The people from the electrical factory watched the brutal scene with numb expressions. Unable to control their fate, they could only cower in the corners, shivering, and waiting for the outcome.

“Judging by the situation, it looks like the wolf king might not be able to beat the tiger,” said Jiawu, who was usually silent, watching through a pair of binoculars with some curiosity.

“Did you notice,” Nan Muran said with a hint of amusement, “why the young wolves around the edges, and those two mutant wolves outside the temple, haven’t moved?”

The eagle thought for a moment and then looked at Nan Muran with disbelief. “Those three strong young wolves earlier — they sacrificed themselves to distract the tiger.

Now the wolf king is fighting just to wear down the tiger’s supernatural energy? After the powers are exhausted, they’ll rely on physical strength — and then the wolf pack will launch a wheel battle. No matter how strong the tiger is, two fists can’t beat many hands. The tiger will definitely lose.

Damn, this wolf king is really clever!”

Nan Muran smiled without saying anything. She couldn’t help but marvel herself — once she realized the plan, she had to admit: this wolf king was a formidable strategist.

As expected, when both the wolf king’s and the tiger’s supernatural energy was almost exhausted, the wolf pack that had been lying in wait outside swarmed into the backyard.

However, two Level 3 mutant wolves still remained stationed outside the temple.

“Why are there still lookouts outside?” the eagle frowned.

While packing his things, Si Ye replied grimly, “There are still mutated rats in these mountains.”

“Meticulous,” the eagle muttered, wishing he could give the wolf king a thumbs-up. Its command ability was seriously impressive.

Inside the Taoist temple, with both sides drained of supernatural power, the one-on-one battle turned into a ten-on-one siege.

“They’ve fought to this point — it’s our turn now,” Nan Muran stood up, signaling the others it was time to move.

Si Ye shouldered his packed bag and casually handed Nan Muran the one he had packed for her. “Zip your jacket properly — it’s freezing cold in the mountains.”

“Yeah, we didn’t notice it while huddling together, but now it’s getting brutally cold,” Nan Muran said, slinging her backpack over her shoulders with a smile.

The others, accustomed to their dynamic, also began packing up their things.

When the snipe and the clam fight, the fisherman benefits.
Now that the tiger and the wolves had exhausted their powers, it was finally time for them to step out and reap the rewards.
