Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 173: Returning to the Southern Base of West City

“Xuan Yue, are these two your children?” Nan Muran asked curiously, looking at the wolf cubs. Even though she knew they were wolf pups, they still appeared incredibly soft and adorable.

In the end, Nan Muran couldn’t resist and reached out to gently stroke the heads of the two small cubs.

Her movement startled the wolf pack, and one of the grayish-white female wolves lunged forward to bare her teeth at Nan Muran, but was stopped by Xuan Yue.

Xuan Yue looked at Nan Muran and responded: Yes, this is my mate, and these two are my children. Along with the other wolves, we are a team.

Nan Muran stared at the female wolf, who had light gray fur and silver-gray eyes, and was surprised. The wolf was indeed beautiful, though its gaze toward her was filled with caution. All the wolves, except for Xuan Yue and the two naive cubs, were very wary of her.

“Your mate is very beautiful.”

The female wolf looked visibly surprised for a moment, and Nan Muran could clearly sense the wolf’s thoughts.

Xuan Yue: We have discussed it seriously and want to follow you. Do you agree?

From Nan Muran’s actions earlier, Xuan Yue already had an answer in mind, but it still asked her seriously, as if forming a pact.

Nan Muran smiled lightly at Xuan Yue, enjoying the straightforwardness of this creature: “I have a villa on Nanshan in West City, up in the mountains. I call that place Banshan; it’s large enough, and I consider it my territory. No one is allowed to trespass. You can live there from now on.”

Upon hearing this, Xuan Yue nudged the female wolf’s head. Then, the whole pack began to touch each other as if communicating. After a brief moment, all the wolves seemed to relax and settled down in the various vehicles to rest.

Nan Muran looked at the scene in front of her with a sense of wonder.

Thanks to the air conditioning inside the RV, the temperature was warm and comfortable, a stark contrast to the howling winds outside and the frigid -30°C temperatures.

Sī Yé, who was driving, glanced at Nan Muran, who was drowsily leaning against the bed, and spoke with a smile: “You should lie down and get some sleep. Once we catch up with them, I’ll wake you.”

Hearing this, Nan Muran naturally didn’t hesitate. She took out her bedding and pillow from her space, made the bed, and slipped under the warm covers, immediately falling asleep.

Xuan Yue, observing her, also found a spot to settle down.

The military-green RV cruised along the highway, its pace not fast but steady. The headlights shone on the snow-covered ground, casting dazzling reflections.

Sī Yé caught up with Jiǎ Wǔ and the others around 10:15 p.m.

Since the group had gained over a dozen wolves, Nan Muran decided to leave the RV behind to avoid the wolves needing to run to West City, ensuring a smoother journey.

The Eagle family, curious about the sudden appearance of the RV, didn’t ask questions, assuming the group had simply obtained it from somewhere. After all, money was useless in the apocalypse.

“We should rest ahead. We’ll continue early tomorrow morning,” Sī Yé said, studying the map and noting the two cities they would pass through, worried about encountering a zombie horde.

Jiǎ Wǔ and the Eagles agreed that passing through the city would be dangerous, and they decided to avoid it, even bypassing the outskirts as much as possible.

However, this area was quite desolate, making it unlikely to find any service stations to stop at. After some careful searching, they settled on a village.

The Eagle family, Taozi, and the Eagles set up a campfire in a house and pitched tents to rest.

Meanwhile, Nan Muran, Sī Yé, Jiǎ Wǔ, and the wolves chose to stay inside the RV, where they could monitor the situation outside.

“Ran Ran, will you sleep here tonight?” Sī Yé asked softly, gently pushing aside her long hair.

Because of the warmth inside the RV, Nan Muran had covered herself with a thicker blanket. Her fair oval face was flushed, making her look even more adorable, and Sī Yé couldn’t help but think about kissing her.

As he thought about it, he leaned in and kissed her, his touch sending a jolt of electricity through him.

Nan Muran, drowsy and unaware of his intentions, nodded and gestured for him to lower the partition at the side of the bed. She then murmured, “The couch folds out into a bed.”

Jiǎ Wǔ and Sī Yé followed her instructions and pulled out the couch.

Looking at the large two-meter bed, they exchanged a smile. Nan Muran’s magical space always had endless surprises. It seemed like she would have a good rest tonight.

The next morning, before Nan Muran had even woken up, the four vehicles had already set off again.

The journey along the highway went smoothly, with only the occasional collision with wandering zombies.

By 4:00 p.m. that afternoon, they arrived at the foot of Nanshan, south of West City.

“Wu Ge, take Xuan Yue and the others back to Banshan, and we’ll go to the West City safe base,” Nan Muran said, tossing the RV keys to Jiǎ Wǔ.

Bái Méi was still at the Banshan villa, and Jiǎ Wǔ, eager to return, didn’t really need to go to the safe base.

Jiǎ Wǔ took the keys. “I’ll head back now.”

Watching him drive off, Nan Muran, Sī Yé, the Eagle family, and Qī Jīn boarded the Humvee once again.

The road from Nanshan to the West City safe base had obviously been cleared, so it was quite smooth. Just as they neared the base, they ran into some familiar faces.

“Nanshen, Captain, Squad Leader, you’re back!” Chen Dong, who had been leading a patrol, spotted them as they approached the gate and rushed over excitedly.

“Mm,” Sī Yé replied, getting out of the vehicle.

The Wolf Pack greeted Sī Yé and the Eagles warmly. After the return of Han Yīngtíng and the others, they had heard many stories about the Star刺 team’s achievements, so even though those members weren’t present, they were still greatly respected in the base.

After the greetings, they quickly entered the base to arrange housing for the Eagle family.

Thanks to Guo Fei’s help, the whole process was quick and smooth. In less than 30 minutes, everything was sorted.

Because of the Eagle’s special ability, his family was entitled to either purchase or rent a larger house in the stacked area.

Originally, Nan Muran and the others had planned to stay there, but the Eagle’s parents and older brother firmly opposed, feeling it would be too much of a burden on them.

“Since you don’t want to live there, I’ll arrange a small yard for you,” Guo Fei said, quickly understanding the core reasons behind the Eagle family’s objections.

Nan Muran had no objections, as she trusted Guo Fei’s abilities completely.

The Eagle family, relieved by Guo Fei’s solution, sighed in relief.

When they arrived at the yard at the back of the base, Nan Muran smiled, knowing that once again, Fei Ge had solved all their concerns with his efficiency.
