After getting the address, Nan Muran drove straight over. The warehouse was in a rather remote location, but thankfully, it wasn’t in a low-lying area, so she managed to arrive without too much trouble.
Once there, she discovered that aside from a few lingering employees in the staff dormitories, the only person left in the factory area was an old man guarding the gate.
Nan Muran made an excuse about checking on her goods, only to find there were even more items than she’d expected.
The old man explained that the boss felt a bit guilty and had added them as a goodwill gesture.
Taking advantage of the moment when the old man closed the door, Nan Muran quickly stashed everything into her space.
Once done, she didn’t plan to linger and drove straight back to her apartment. But just as she pulled into the underground garage, someone stepped out to block her path—it was Nan Muting.
“Nan Muran, lend me your car,” Nan Muting demanded. She’d seen that viral post online and wanted to go stock up on supplies.
But the sports car she drove had too low a chassis and had stalled not long after she left. Naturally, she thought of Nan Muran’s Kalman King.
When she went to find her, she discovered all the elevator access codes Nan Muran had previously authorized were deleted—no elevator, only stairs.
So Nan Mufeng had climbed all 36 floors to find her and told her to try the garage again.
Not seeing the car in the garage, Nan Muting guessed Nan Muran had gone out and decided to wait at the entrance.
Nan Muran found her unbelievable. “You want to borrow it, and I have to lend it? You really think you’re someone special.”
“I’m just going out to buy things, and you happen to have what I need. We’re family, so why shouldn’t you lend it to me?”
Nan Muran was stunned by the sheer nerve. She couldn’t even be bothered to argue. “No. Now get lost unless you have a death wish.”
Nan Muting’s expression turned nasty. “If you don’t lend it to me, I’ll just stand right here. Run me over if you dare.”
She stood in front of the car, hands on hips, looking like she wouldn’t budge no matter what.
Nan Muran smiled coolly. “You better stand real still, then.” She reversed the car a bit, then slammed on the accelerator without hesitation.
At the last second, Nan Muting’s face went pale as she scrambled to the side, gasping for breath, her hands instinctively shielding her stomach. She could feel it—Nan Muran had really been ready to run her over.
Nan Muran sneered from inside the car. “Coward.”
She knew Nan Muting valued her life, so she’d reversed first just to test her reaction. As expected, she chickened out.
Still, Nan Muting’s words had reminded her: with the city now largely flooded and most cars unable to drive through the water, her own vehicle was far too conspicuous.
To avoid attracting trouble, Nan Muran focused her spiritual power and destroyed several surveillance cameras in the garage. Then, just before heading upstairs, she stored the car into her space.
When she opened her door, a small gray fluffball was already waiting on the doormat, its bright green eyes fixed on her.
As soon as it saw her, the little thing began meowing loudly.
“Why aren’t you lounging somewhere more comfortable?” Nan Muran scooped the kitten up.
She set it down on a soft little cushion on the sofa. It was a long-haired gray-and-white mix, scruffy like a stray but incredibly affectionate. Seeing that Nan Muran was settling in on the couch, it carefully crawled into the crook of her arm and curled up.
“You sure know how to find the coziest spot,” Nan Muran said, scratching its head. The kitten began to purr contentedly.
Just then, her phone rang.
“Muran, are you coming home today?” It was Bai Mei’s voice.
“Not yet, Mei-jie. What’s up?” Nan Muran asked, a little surprised.
“Where are you? I’ll send Wu-ge to get you.” Bai Mei sounded obviously anxious.
Nan Muran paused. “What happened?”
“Listen to me. We just saw a post online saying the apocalypse is coming. Wu-ge reached out to some old contacts to confirm it. Most of what the post says is true. Lately, many elites and officials have been preparing safety shelters.”
Just thinking about the doomsday post made Bai Mei nervous again.
“I got it. Wu-ge doesn’t need to come. Once I’m done here, I’ll head back right away.” Nan Muran had only taken one supermarket so far—she still needed fuel, vehicles, and a lot of other supplies.
Wu-ge suddenly took the phone from Bai Mei, speaking in a low and urgent tone. “Your real shelter is here. Outside is too dangerous.”
“Wu-ge, I know what’s coming. And I know how to avoid it,” Nan Muran said calmly. She could tell from his tone—he had guessed what she was up to.
She had to admit, people who’d served in the military and survived near-death situations had an extraordinary sense for danger.
“Stay safe. Call me if you need anything,” Wu-ge said after a long pause.
Soon after she hung up, Guo Fei also called—he’d seen the same post and was worried.
“Don’t worry, Fei-ge. I’ll be fine. Nanshan Yun Garden has fewer residents, so it’s a lot safer. Plus, a military base will be set up there later. Just wait for them.”
Nan Muran had chosen Nanshan Yun Garden precisely because the military would soon establish a safety base there once the zombie outbreak began.
She didn’t know what dangers she’d face in the future.
But Guo Fei, Lin Jiajia, and their newborn baby Dudu—everything she’d do from now on would be risking her life.
The best choice for them was to wait at the most secure place in the future Huaguo.
Guo Fei was silent for a long time. He didn’t ask how she knew any of this. He just said quietly, “Take care of yourself, Muran. If it gets too bad, just come home. We’ll all be there.”
“Okay.”
On the fourth night of the apocalypse, the rain outside grew heavier. By 1 a.m., the water level had reached waist height. The city’s drainage system had completely collapsed.
By the morning of the fifth day, the water would submerge the first floors of apartment buildings. In lower-lying areas, even the third floors would be underwater. The entire city ground to a halt. Everyone began to struggle for survival.
Nan Muran knew the moment she had been waiting for had come—time for the zero-dollar haul.
Once again, she slipped out of the building under cover of night. Rainwater had already seeped into ground-floor homes in many neighborhoods, and lights were turning on as residents realized what was happening.
On this pitch-black, stormy night, curses and angry shouts rang out amid the howling wind and rain.
Nan Muran waded through the water to the street. From a hidden spot, she took out a jet ski from her space.
The engine was loud, but the storm was louder—no one would hear it.
Her first stop: the nearby Asia Auto Show.
All the vehicles on the first floor were submerged and ruined. Flooded cars were death traps—not worth it.
So Nan Muran went straight to the second floor to find the show’s crown jewel: The Predator, known as the most unstoppable vehicle. She’d had her eye on it since seeing it in a magazine.
After taking The Predator, she spotted a black Hummer H1 nearby—she didn’t leave that behind either.
She also grabbed three standard off-road vehicles. Looking at the endless rows of cars, she couldn’t help but sigh—it was a pity she couldn’t take more.
Then she went up to the third floor where the RVs were. She took a Mercedes-Benz Arocs, a Planet Wanderer, and a couple smaller RVs.
She violently cracked open the key vault, took the keys to the vehicles she wanted, and left the building.
Then she used her notes and phone navigation to find nearby gas stations.
At each one, Little Willow tunneled into the ground and located the buried fuel tanks. Then it enlarged itself and cracked the cement and earth above.
All Nan Muran had to do was touch the tank to store it in her space.
They hit six stations in total. Since these were central city stations, their storage capacity was large—she ended up collecting nearly 450,000 liters of fuel.
Half of one entire level of her space was packed full. That amount was enough for her to drive circles around the Earth without worry.
The fuel tanks were ten meters tall, but her space could still fit them—this gave her a new understanding of its true height. It wasn’t just five or six meters tall—it was unfathomably deep. Now she could stack materials vertically without concern.
After gathering the essentials, Nan Muran headed to the city’s most high-end shopping mall.
She wasn’t interested in most items—but top-tier skincare was an absolute must.
She practically swept each floor into her space. She also picked up lingerie, pajamas, and casual wear from brands she liked.
High fashion, bags, and jewelry didn’t interest her much. But once she reached the watch section, she didn’t hold back.
She grabbed mechanical watches, and especially sought out military watches—brands like Marathon, Luminox, 5.11, Suunto, and IWC. She even followed a map to visit their dedicated counters.
On the way, she spotted a military supplies store and cleaned it out—shopfront, warehouse, everything.
After all, by tomorrow morning everything would be underwater. She wasn’t going to let anything go to waste.
She worked non-stop through the night, finally filling the last two levels of her space. Just before dawn, she returned to her apartment.
She was completely exhausted—couldn’t take another step. But first, she fed the kitten who’d been waiting patiently by the door.
Then she took out some of her favorite foods: pumpkin buns, soup dumplings, shumai, and a few homestyle dishes.
After eating her fill, she and the kitten curled up in bed and fell fast asleep.
While she caught up on sleep, the internet exploded with panic.
Outside, the wind howled. Lightning repeatedly tore through the black night sky. In the distance, the once-glimmering lights along city streets went dark one by one, plunging everything into endless darkness.
