Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains
Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 183: Offering Help

“Wow, this white wolf is so cool,” Chen Dong said, his eyes full of admiration as he watched Xuan Yue.

Tank, noticing the naivety in his expression, snorted in dissatisfaction.

“They’re getting closer,” Si Ye said, holding a pair of binoculars, his gaze fixed on the zombie beasts at the front of the zombie army.

Chen Jianguo also saw them and his face darkened slightly.

He put down his binoculars and turned to the person beside him. “Send the order. Let’s respond as we usually do and see how they react after one round of fire.”

After the order was given, soldiers holding firearms quickly appeared along the city wall. They quickly found cover, guns in hand, waiting for the signal to attack.

As soon as Chen Jianguo gave the command, gunfire and artillery erupted from both sides of the city wall, launching an attack on the zombie army below.

With the intense barrage, the zombies at the front of the army were knocked down one after another. The flashes from the firearms illuminated the scene, and many zombies even caught fire.

However, this devastating loss didn’t stop the tide of zombies from advancing. As long as the zombies weren’t completely turned to ash, they continued to move forward, crawling with missing limbs, and even without heads.

The zombies behind them paid no attention to their fallen comrades and continued their mindless advance.

Chen Jianguo wasn’t surprised by this situation. After all, zombies were emotionless and senseless creatures. But when he saw the zombie beasts darting between gunfire and explosions through his binoculars, his expression grew grim.

It was clear these zombie beasts would be the most troublesome part of today’s battle.

“These zombie beasts are too fast,” Chen Dong muttered, putting down his sniper rifle, his frustration evident. He had missed several shots in a row.

Out of fifteen shots, he had only managed to hit five of the zombie beasts, and even then, none were killed.

As time passed, the zombie army continued to advance, and with tens of thousands of zombies falling, they had nearly reached the foot of the base’s city wall.

Then, they began climbing over the bodies of their fallen comrades, stacking up and forming a slope that gradually increased in height as more and more zombies piled up.

Chen Jianguo sneered when he saw this. It was obvious that the enemy was trying to use the zombie bodies to create a ramp up the wall. It was cruel but clever.

“Han Yingtian, order the fire-type abilities users to use fire attacks.”

Upon hearing the command, the team of ability users led by Han Yingtian on the other side of the wall began throwing fireballs of various sizes at the small slope formed by the zombie bodies, hoping to burn it down.

However, as the fireballs approached the slope, they were immediately doused by waterballs that appeared out of nowhere.

Only a few fireballs made it to the zombie pile, but they quickly extinguished, making little impact.

“There are ability users among the zombie army,” Chen Jianguo frowned. He had always thought that behind this attack was a mutated zombie king, but it was clear that wasn’t the case.

The enemy’s army was made entirely of zombies. They didn’t feel pain and weren’t afraid of death. Tens of thousands of them, densely packed, seemed endless.

But his own soldiers were human, and they couldn’t endure this endless consumption. Since humans were in charge of the attack, the key was to find their commander and, ideally, kill him.

Unfortunately, the situation didn’t give them much time to react. The agile zombie beasts quickly scaled the makeshift slope formed by their fallen comrades and were now rapidly charging toward the city wall.

“Dodge quickly!” Si Ye shouted to the soldiers on the wall once he understood the zombie beasts’ intentions.

“Do what Wild Wolf says,” Chen Jianguo urged when he saw no one moving.

At the command, everyone quickly began to react, but one soldier, unable to evade in time, was thrown off the wall by a charging zombie beast and fell straight into the endless sea of zombies below.

“All units, retreat to the second line of defense!” Chen Jianguo made a swift decision when he saw the zombie pile nearing the height of the wall.

All the soldiers on the wall began to retreat in an orderly fashion. For them, retreating didn’t mean giving up.

Behind them were 150,000 survivors in the Western City Safety Base, their families, friends, and loved ones. They had no way out. They could only fight to the death against the zombie army.

“Watch out, there’s an eagle,” someone suddenly shouted.

Everyone looked up to see a giant zombie eagle rise from the back of the zombie army and fly straight toward the city wall.

It first shot straight up into the air, then screeched and began to circle down, heading straight for its target.

It was only then that they realized it was aiming for Chen Jianguo, who was commanding the battle.

“Commander, be careful!” Han Yingtian, who was facing off against a zombie tiger, turned pale as he saw the eagle’s attack.

“Uncle,” Chen Dong’s face turned pale, and he tried to rush over to block it, but it was too late.

In a split second, the closest person to Chen Jianguo, Nan Muran, stepped to the side and positioned herself in front of him.

At the same time, a giant water chain formed in mid-air, wrapping around the eagle’s claws, and slammed it to the ground.

Then, a sharp blade pierced through its head, pinning it to the ground. Flames erupted, and within moments, the zombie eagle was reduced to ashes.

It was obvious that Si Ye had made the precise and efficient move.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.

After witnessing Si Ye’s handling of the zombie beasts, Han Yingtian and his team, who had worked with Xing Ci before, immediately understood the key. They began reminding the ability users at the safety base to follow suit and deal with the zombie beasts that had already climbed the wall.

Chen Jianguo, watching the slender figure standing in front of him, unexpectedly felt a sense of reassurance.

He exhaled deeply and, his voice still cold and firm as steel, said, “Thank you.”

Nan Muran turned with a slight smile. “Commander, you can’t get hurt. Our business at Qihuo hasn’t even started yet.”

Hearing this, Chen Jianguo chuckled. He had seen many battles and long ago put life and death aside, but that didn’t mean he was indifferent to his own passing.

He was grateful for Nan Muran’s timely rescue and for her casual ease after saving him.

Xuan Yue, who had been standing obediently by Nan Muran’s side, noticed the eager zombie beasts and understood that among them was the King of the Forest, his most coveted opponent.

After a moment of contemplation, Xuan Yue nuzzled his fluffy head against Nan Muran’s hand.

Xuan Yue: “Ran Ran, I want to fight.”

Nan Muran, feeling the warmth on the back of her hand, instinctively patted Xuan Yue’s soft head and heard his thoughts.

After glancing at the zombie tiger fighting on the wall, she immediately understood Xuan Yue’s desire. “Go ahead, but be careful.”

A moment later, a huge, snow-white figure appeared on the city wall, shooting like a streak of light across the battlefield.

Xuan Yue’s method of dealing with the zombie beasts was simple: he bit their necks and with a sharp jerk, decapitated them.

Seeing this, the fifteen nearby quickly condensed fireballs to help burn the zombie beasts to ash.

Upon seeing the humans’ actions, Xuan Yue paused for a moment. He was quite pleased with their understanding, and together, the human and wolf began to work seamlessly, growing more and more powerful with each battle.

“Fifteen has awakened a new ability,” Nan Muran remarked casually. She wasn’t surprised—Fifteen’s talent had been exceptional even in the previous life, and it was no wonder that he had become one of the top ten combatants of the apocalypse.

Si Ye smiled lightly. “Looks like everyone’s working hard.”

As they spoke, a larger zombie eagle appeared in the distance, heading toward them.

Si Ye immediately focused, preparing to handle the descending zombie eagle.

Meanwhile, Nan Muran concentrated her mental energy, scanning the back of the zombie army.

With her mental energy extending, she finally saw the one commanding the battle at the rear of the zombie forces.

Unfortunately, the figure was cloaked in black, and it was impossible to make out their features.

“You’re much stronger than I expected, to have found me,” the figure said, their voice laced with amusement as if sensing Nan Muran’s mental presence.
