Nan Muran clearly heard the words of the person before her. This individual was likely a special-type ability user. The words spoken created a sense of confusion, as if the speaker were right beside her.
There was no doubt—this cloaked person was incredibly powerful.
After carefully investigating, Nan Muran confirmed that this was a level-6 early-stage ability user, and it was this person who controlled the zombie beasts and the entire zombie army.
Nan Muran didn’t show any sign of surprise at their words, as if she hadn’t heard the mocking tone at all. Instead, she reached out and gently touched Si Ye’s hand beside her, then gave his index finger a light squeeze.
Si Ye, who had initially planned to deal with the eagle in the sky, immediately withdrew the ability power he was about to release upon feeling her touch. “Tank, keep an eye on that eagle.”
Tank seemed to sense the tension in the air and immediately moved to block Nan Muran and Si Ye, staring intently at the giant eagle soaring overhead.
“How far is it?” Si Ye lowered his voice and asked Nan Muran.
“You still can’t reach it,” Nan Muran frowned slightly.
Though their conversation was brief, they both understood the deeper meaning of the words.
Si Ye realized that Nan Muran’s actions were a warning that their opponent was strong and difficult to deal with. It was likely that they would have to use their time abilities together to deal with this person.
That was why he asked about the distance—his time ability didn’t have the same range as Nan Muran’s mental abilities. If the distance was too far, he wouldn’t be able to coordinate with her to take down the opponent in an instant.
At the rear of the zombie army, the person in the black robe clearly heard their conversation but didn’t care, as though he had heard a joke. “You actually want to kill me? How cute.”
The ability users following him also laughed, mocking Nan Muran and the others for overestimating their abilities.
Nan Muran, standing on the city wall, also heard the voice. Though her killing intent surged within her, her expression remained cold and composed.
In the moment when no one else noticed, Nan Muran’s left hand subtly shifted, and two thin threads of light began to slip from between her fingers toward the ground, disappearing into the earth.
Nan Muran’s plant abilities had reached level-5 early stage. While she couldn’t fully unleash the combat power of the level-7 mutated plant Xiaoliu and the Treeman, their power under her command was still comparable to that of a typical level-6 mutated plant.
Moreover, Nan Muran had extensive combat experience. If she utilized all her strength, she could even kill a level-7 ability user, albeit with great difficulty.
Xiaoliu: “Ranran, should we pull that person in the black robe directly to the city wall?”
Treeman: “No need to ask too many details, just pull in this direction.”
Xiaoliu: “It’s just strange.”
Listening to their conversation, Nan Muran slowly nodded. “Just do as the Treeman says.”
While they were talking, a wave of Nan Muran’s mental energy followed Xiaoliu and the Treeman as it surged into the zombie army surrounding the city walls.
At this point, it wasn’t just the zombie beasts at the forefront that were climbing the city walls; many of the zombie army had also begun to ascend.
The zombie beasts had been reduced by about half, but seeing more and more zombies climbing up, Chen Jianguo quickly responded.
The ordinary soldiers in camouflage, under organized command, retreated to the high towers on both sides of the city walls. Once inside, they used firearms to continuously deal with the approaching zombie army.
Though the attacking zombies continued to fall, some even piled up into hills of corpses, tens of meters high, as they climbed over each other. But when they looked up, the snowy landscape was still densely packed with black dots, with no end in sight.
The military ability teams remaining on the city walls were growing fatigued from the prolonged battle, and many of their abilities were running out. Once their abilities were exhausted, they would be less effective than ordinary soldiers.
Chen Jianguo surveyed the situation, and an unease spread through his heart. He sighed and approached Nan Muran and Si Ye. “You two don’t need to stay and endure this with us. Go back to the city.”
Nan Muran looked at the grim battlefield, then turned to Chen Jianguo. “Commander Chen, do you trust me?”
Chen Jianguo, listening to Nan Muran’s firm tone, looked at Si Ye, who nodded to him, and spoke his true thoughts. “We’ve only met four times, so it’s not enough to say I trust you. To be honest, I don’t trust you completely.
However, I unconditionally trust the Wild Wolves and the Eagles because they were once members of the Blood Wolves. Once a Blood Wolf, always a Blood Wolf, for life.”
Nan Muran wasn’t surprised by Chen Jianguo’s answer. She smiled faintly. “That’s enough.”
“Please have Commander Han and the others come here and form a defensive circle around us. Have the other ability users protect the ordinary soldiers on the high towers. Tell everyone that holding out for twenty more minutes will be enough.”
Chen Jianguo was taken aback. What did she mean by “twenty minutes will be enough”? The situation here seemed like it could go on for two days and nights without end.
“Commander, trust Ranran,” Si Ye said, already guessing Nan Muran’s intention.
Given the current situation, the forces at the Western City military base were locked in a standoff with the zombies. If they continued like this, the defense walls would eventually become meaningless. The soldiers and ability users on the city walls would only have one option: retreat. Otherwise, they would be doomed.
But their duty didn’t allow them to retreat. Even if it meant dying to survive, retreat was not an option.
If Nan Muran stepped back and observed from a distance, then today, the entire Western City safe zone, and even the entire HB military region, would pay a terribly heavy price.
“Commander…” Si Ye continued.
Chen Jianguo looked at Si Ye, thought for a moment, then turned and decisively issued orders for everyone to cooperate with Nan Muran’s plan.
Xuan Yue, who had been fighting the zombie beasts on the city walls, immediately returned to Nan Muran’s side and, with Tank, formed a protective barrier around Nan Muran and Si Ye.
“Miss Nan,” Han Yingtian, Cheng Cheng, Fifteen, Xiang Xi, and the two new ability users from their team all rushed over as per Chen Jianguo’s orders.
Knowing that they had a mutual understanding, Nan Muran didn’t hesitate to tell Han Yingtian directly, “Xiaoliu has already gone to find the commander of the zombie army. Once it encounters the other side, we’ll be hit with a fierce attack.
I need you to work with Xuan Yue and Tank to counter their every move.”
“I understand.” Han Yingtian didn’t ask further questions. He immediately ordered his team to adjust their position, facing away from Nan Muran’s group to protect them from any attacks.
At the back of the zombie army, the person in the black robe watched the reactions of everyone on the city walls and couldn’t help but laugh, his tone laced with amusement. “Seems like today’s a good day to watch a show.”
