Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 28: Someone Knocks on the Door

“Go in and check the situation first.” Nan Mu Ran whispered.

The young security guard obediently followed her instructions and took a quick glance inside.

In the entire building, only the security captain’s room and the rooms of a few guests had permission to use electricity at night. Everyone else was forbidden from turning on the lights.

So, at midnight, everyone was asleep.

There were supposed to be seven people in the break room, and all of them were sound asleep.

For those who were fast asleep, Nan Mu Ran couldn’t be bothered to waste bullets.

She directly took out a knife and entered the room, one by one slashing their throats. The only thing that irritated her was the disgusting smell in the house.

The tank, following behind her, clearly felt deflated. It seemed like he had come to watch the excitement, but hadn’t really helped at all.

Back in the living room, Nan Mu Ran looked at the young security guard.

“Only those two women and Zhang Kun are left,” the young security guard said, his voice trembling, but he still honestly reported the situation to Nan Mu Ran.

Nan Mu Ran had intended to find a place to sit in the living room, but the surrounding situation disgusted her, and she lost the urge.

She took off the night-vision goggles for herself and the tank, then turned to the young security guard. “Turn on the living room lights.”

The young security guard was clearly stunned. “There are still people inside.”

“I know. Just go ahead and turn them on,” Nan Mu Ran ordered calmly.

Seeing that she insisted, the young security guard went to the door and switched on the living room lights.

The entire living room instantly lit up, but the previously neat, light-luxury style decoration had turned into a mess.

Disposable cups were crammed full of cigarette butts, and the coffee table was littered with instant noodle boxes and various food wrappers, inside which were used tissues.

Nan Mu Ran disdainfully walked towards the floor-to-ceiling window and stood there quietly, not speaking.

“Who the hell is it, damn it, can’t you just leave? Now you’re turning on the lights!” Zhang Kun’s irritable voice cursed from inside.

Perhaps because he didn’t hear a response from the outside, he casually put on his underwear and stormed into the living room.

When he saw the situation in the living room, he was clearly taken aback. A tall, beautiful woman in a gray-black tactical outfit was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.

The girl had fair skin, a tall figure, and her hair tied into a long ponytail. She casually wore black shorts, revealing her long, slender legs.

The most notable feature was her boots—black military boots. Although her outfit was odd, the beauty of the woman gave it a unique charm.

“Wow, where did this rare beauty come from?” Zhang Kun, who was naturally lustful, was drooling at the sight of Nan Mu Ran.

“Kun Ge…” The young security guard, while observing Nan Mu Ran’s expression, cautiously reminded Zhang Kun.

Zhang Kun then noticed him. “Xiao Wang, is this the Miss Nan from the top floor you were talking about? Truly impressive.

This time, you’ve really earned my gratitude. Don’t worry, I’ll apply for a double share of all the supplies for you this week.”

The young security guard, hearing these dangerous words, felt his legs go weak. He regretted trying to remind Zhang Kun in the first place.

Nan Mu Ran coldly glanced at the young security guard but didn’t speak.

But that one glance made the young security guard feel like he was as good as dead.

At that moment, a woman suddenly walked out of another room.

She was the first to see Nan Mu Ran by the window, and her gaze immediately changed. Unconsciously, she pushed out her chest and spoke to Nan Mu Ran in a hostile tone, “Who are you, and how did you get here?”

Seeing Nan Mu Ran standing there silently, the woman snorted and then turned to Zhang Kun. “Kun Ge, this woman outside looks like trouble. I suggest you not take her seriously. Who knows what she’s been up to?”

“Get the hell out of here with your nonsense, you old worn-out bus!” Zhang Kun, without even blinking, looked at Nan Mu Ran, clearly irritated with the woman’s remarks.

Unable to listen to any more of their filthy words, Nan Mu Ran looked at Zhang Kun and calmly asked, “Zhang Kun, when you were committing your crimes, did you ever think about how you would die?”

Zhang Kun, as if he had heard a joke, laughed manically. “Little girl, if you serve Kun Ge well, Kun Ge will treat you right.”

The woman beside him also sneered at Nan Mu Ran, mocking her.

Before Nan Mu Ran could respond, Tank, unable to tolerate the noise, began barking fiercely at the woman.

Zhang Kun finally noticed the tank, who had been quietly sitting beside Nan Mu Ran.

Before he could react, Tank, after scaring the woman away, lunged at Zhang Kun’s face.

Zhang Kun immediately sidestepped, narrowly avoiding Tank’s vicious attack, but three deep red claw marks appeared on his face.

“Damn you, beast, looking for death!” Zhang Kun cursed as he began to guard himself against Tank.

After his first failed lunge, Tank wasn’t deterred. He quickly adjusted his position, crouched, and prepared to make another jump for an attack.

Zhang Kun, seeing the over-a-meter-long German Shepherd in front of him, was starting to feel anxious.

He had encountered many dogs, but this one was clearly different. Not only was it larger and stronger than a typical German Shepherd, but it was also more vicious. Most importantly, it radiated a murderous aura.

This dog had received special training and could kill a person directly. It was comparable to a military dog, far more terrifying than an ordinary police dog.

The woman, who had been mocking Nan Mu Ran, was so scared by Tank that her face turned pale. After looking around the living room, she chose to hide behind the young security guard.

Seeing her move, the young security guard, furious, thought, “You’re scared? Am I not scared too?”

At that moment, Tank lunged again, even faster than before. This time, its fangs aimed straight for Zhang Kun’s neck.

Zhang Kun couldn’t dodge in time, his face changing drastically. He immediately dropped to the ground and began to crawl toward a room nearby to escape.

Tank knocked him down from behind and, without hesitation, bit down on his ear.

Blood sprayed everywhere, and Zhang Kun’s anguished screams filled the air.

Nan Mu Ran quickly approached and kicked him into unconsciousness.

Her military boots struck without mercy, and Zhang Kun’s skull was immediately bleeding.

“Get a chair and tie him up,” Nan Mu Ran instructed the young security guard.

The young security guard quickly complied, going over to the dining table to bring out a chair. He then found the toolbox and took out some rope.

After tying Zhang Kun securely to the chair, he stopped.

“Wake him up,” Nan Mu Ran ordered.

The young security guard thought for a moment, then went to the bathroom to get an empty bucket.

When he returned, he filled the bucket with rainwater, then poured it into a basin, and without hesitation, splashed it onto Zhang Kun’s face.

Unfortunately, Zhang Kun didn’t wake up, but suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

“Go open the door. No matter who it is, let them in and handle them properly,” Nan Mu Ran gestured for the young security guard.

She had a bad feeling that whoever was knocking on the 21st-floor door at this hour wasn’t a good person and was likely involved in some shady dealings with the security.
