Annoyed by Zhang Kun’s screams, Nan Muran casually grabbed a towel from the side and stuffed it into Zhang Kun’s mouth. “You’re really noisy.”
The small security guard, who had just finished calming down Hong Jie, stepped into the living room and was immediately greeted with a blood-soaked scene. He instinctively shrank into a corner, trying to make himself invisible.
Tank turned around and stared at Qi Li, who was motionless against the wall.
Nan Muran squatted down in front of Zhang Kun, playing with the dagger in her hand as she asked, “Since entering the apocalypse over a month ago, have your two hands ever done anything good?”
Zhang Kun widened his eyes in terror when he heard her question.
“It seems like not a single good deed. So what are these hands still good for? To continue causing harm?” Nan Muran continued as the dagger in her hand vertically pierced Zhang Kun’s left hand.
The intense pain overwhelmed Zhang Kun, but with his mouth gagged, he could only groan in agony, unable to move.
“The right one’s still fine, but that won’t do. Symmetry is beauty,” Nan Muran said as she swiftly pulled the dagger out and stabbed his right hand.
Watching his blood pool on the floor, Nan Muran couldn’t help but feel a twisted sense of satisfaction.
The thoughts of torturing him further surged uncontrollably, and she proceeded to stab his legs, one after the other, until she grew tired of it.
In her previous life, she could end the lives of insignificant evildoers with one swift blow. But when it came to those more entangled in her life, she couldn’t bring herself to give them a quick end.
The once pristine floor was now stained with blood. Zhang Kun looked at Nan Muran as if he had seen a ghost, his body trembling uncontrollably as he tried to escape with all his strength.
Watching him crawl like a snake on the ground, Nan Muran smiled. “Want to leave? I’ll help you. You two, throw him out the window.”
She glanced at Qi Li, still motionless in the corner, and the small security guard next to him.
The two of them instinctively looked at Zhang Kun, struggling to crawl away, their hairs standing on end, as if they had run naked into a frozen wilderness.
“Quickly, don’t make me repeat myself.” Nan Muran’s voice grew impatient.
The two scrambled to their feet, lifted the struggling Zhang Kun, and threw him out the balcony window.
From the 21st floor, with all those knife wounds, it was obvious Zhang Kun was dead.
Once everything was done, the small security guard collapsed on the floor, too exhausted to move a single step. Though he was physically drained, it was more due to fear than anything else.
Qi Li, drenched in cold sweat, his scalp tingling, and his mind blank, collapsed in a corner of the living room. He desperately wanted to save himself, but his legs were too weak to gather any strength.
“You want to leave?” Nan Muran looked at Qi Li with cold eyes.
“Raran, please, let me go,” Qi Li tried to keep his tone calm.
Nan Muran’s disdain almost overflowed. “Just a while ago, you wanted to use those scumbags to destroy me, and now you beg me to spare you? Don’t you think you’re pathetic?”
“I was wrong, Raran. I was just too in love with you, so I made a foolish mistake. Please forgive me. I understand now. I shouldn’t have been so foolish,” Qi Li trembled all over, his breath quickening, feeling as if someone was choking him, suffocating him with every word.
Nan Muran laughed at his shamelessness. “Qi Li, don’t make excuses for your malice. I never show mercy, and I won’t spare you.”
“You can’t kill me,” Qi Li stared at Nan Muran. “Believe me, you can’t kill me, or you’ll get into serious trouble.”
“Why?” Nan Muran teased, curious to see what else Qi Li had up his sleeve.
“I received an invitation from Dr. Jin’s end-of-the-world laboratory. Soon, mercenaries will come here to find me. If they know you killed me, they won’t let you off.”
“You’re strong, but you can’t fight a group of top-tier mercenaries alone. There’s no chance you’ll win,” Qi Li seriously threatened her.
He was panicking inside; this was his last trump card. If Nan Muran didn’t care and dismissed it, he would certainly die today.
“Dr. Jin?” Nan Muran’s eyes turned even colder at the mention of the name. Her body began to stiffen as a sense of dread spread through her.
In her previous life, she had heard the name Dr. Jin more than once in the underground laboratory. The syringes injected into their bodies back then were developed by this Dr. Jin.
He was also the so-called “mad doctor,” the source of all the evil in the underground laboratory.
Seeing that Nan Muran was interested in what he said, Qi Li eagerly nodded. “He’s a top international medical doctor with his own biochemical laboratory. He’s also my doctoral advisor.”
“Qi Li, recite every word. Don’t stop until I say so,” Nan Muran’s voice trembled as the anger inside her boiled to the surface.
“Recite.”
Hearing Nan Muran’s cold command, Qi Li began reciting non-stop.
Once, twice, thrice, hundreds, thousands of times, Qi Li didn’t know how long he had been reciting. His throat was dry and he dared not stop, until his voice grew hoarse.
“Stop.” Nan Muran suddenly cut in, and the last few numbers she heard matched the hoarse, deep voice she remembered.
So, the man who repeatedly appeared in her nightmares was Qi Li.
Did this mean that this time, she didn’t have to wait foolishly? She could find Si Ye earlier through Qi Li. Nan Muran’s eyes turned red, tears uncontrollably welling up.
Qi Li let out a long sigh of relief, watching Nan Muran’s reaction. He fell into deep thought, sensing something was off about her reaction.
“When will they come to pick you up?” Nan Muran asked indifferently.
“I’m not sure. They contacted me half a month ago and just told me to wait here. Someone would come to pick me up,” Qi Li felt that Nan Muran’s reaction was eerily terrifying.
Nan Muran reached out, pressing her hand on Qi Li’s shoulder. A faint green light streamed from her wrist into his body.
“If they come to find you, notify me immediately. Otherwise, no matter where you run, I will spare no effort to kill you,” Nan Muran said coldly, her eyes locking onto Qi Li’s.
Qi Li felt a chill run through him as he looked into her eyes. “Okay, I’ll remember.”
Nan Muran slowly stood up.
The small security guard, fearful, looked at her, preparing to leave. “Miss Nan…”
“Today, I’ll spare you, but never do evil again, or I will personally kill you. By the way, come to the top floor tomorrow after 10 a.m. to collect the reward I promised you,” Nan Muran gave him a cold glance.
“Thank you, Miss Nan, thank you! You’ve spared me. I’ll definitely be a good person from now on and promise not to do anything evil!” The small security guard bowed repeatedly, grateful to Nan Muran.
Nan Muran muttered under her breath, “Consider this the merit you’ve accumulated from your past life.”
Only when Nan Muran and Tank had completely left the 21st-floor apartment did the small security guard and Qi Li finally exhale in relief.
