Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains
Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 32: One Must Rely on Oneself to Survive

When she was dragged into the room by that disgusting man from the 18th floor and forcibly stripped of her innocence, she didn’t feel as fragile as she did now. It felt as if all the strength had been drained from her.

“In the apocalypse, one must rely on oneself to survive,” Nan Muran said lightly as she looked at Qi Qing. “Go change your clothes in the room. I’ll find some fever medicine for you.”

After watching Qi Qing head into the guest room, Nan Muran turned and went to the cupboard where she had previously kept fever and cold medicine in the apartment.

After a while, the muffled sound of painful crying from the guest room reached the living room.

Nan Muran, standing outside, simply sighed. She didn’t go in nor did she intend to comfort Qi Qing with words.

After a long while, Qi Qing, exhausted from crying, cleaned herself up and returned to the living room.

Nan Muran handed her the medicine. “By the way, tell Qi Li that I saved him because he’s still of use to me. Don’t think about trying to pull tricks on me, or I’ll make sure to take his life.”

“Ranran.” Nan Muran’s words clearly startled Qi Qing.

“Just tell him exactly what I said.”

Qi Qing saw that Nan Muran was clearly unwilling to say more, so she nodded. “Thank you, Ranran. I’ll pass on your message.”

“You’re welcome.”

Watching Qi Qing leave, Nan Muran felt as though she was looking at the naive version of herself from the previous life, someone who had foolishly sacrificed for the Nan family.

She didn’t believe that the old lady of the Qi family or Qi Qing’s parents couldn’t guess what might happen when Qi Qing went out to get the medicine.

Yet, they didn’t stop her, because deep down they knew that in this situation, only by getting Qi Qing involved could they get the medicine for Qi Li without paying anything else.

If they had come out to get the medicine themselves, they might have had to pay something more valuable, like food, the most important thing in the apocalypse.

In the eyes of the Qi family, Qi Qing might be important, but she couldn’t compare to Qi Li, and certainly not to food, which was essential for survival.

Sure enough, when Qi Qing returned home with the fever medicine and inserted the key into the door, before she could turn it, she heard her family arguing inside.

“If we hadn’t sent Qi Qing, do you think anyone would have given us the fever medicine?” The voice was Qi’s father’s.

“But Qing’er will be ruined by those scumbags!” Qi’s mother’s voice was full of obvious pain, but it was minimal.

“What’s more important, Qi Li’s life or Qi Qing’s purity? Think carefully,” Qi’s father said, his tone harsh.

The elderly woman of the Qi family, sitting coldly on the sofa, stopped them. “Stop arguing, what would outsiders think if they overhear us?”

“You should be thankful that she could go out today and trade herself for the medicine. When the whole family is on the brink of starvation, she will be able to trade for food, and then we’ll survive. Or do you want to trade our limited food with outsiders for the medicine? Do you think we’ll survive then?” The elderly woman’s voice was cold.

“Will she agree to trade for food?” Qi’s mother asked hesitantly.

“If she can, she will. After all, we’ve raised her for so many years. When the time comes, she’ll have no choice but to go out and trade. If she doesn’t want to, she can go out with the search team and look for food.”

“Who knows what kind of people they’ll encounter out there? Have you forgotten how that food blogger died?” Qi’s father sneered.

The food blogger from the 22nd floor had been taken by a butcher while accompanying the security team. It was said that she was killed on the bed.

Qi Qing listened to their words, each one like a blade cutting into her heart. Her tears flowed uncontrollably, and then she suddenly laughed. She had actually believed they loved her, but in the end, it couldn’t even compare to a few meals.

No wonder Ranran had told her earlier, “In the apocalypse, one must rely on oneself to survive.”

Even she had seen through her parents and grandmother’s intentions, yet she had foolishly thought that everything was just because of her bad luck.

Her heart grew colder and colder until she was sure of it. Wiping the tears from her face, she stood up, grabbed the key, and opened the door. “This is the medicine for Qi Li.”

The three people in the living room were clearly startled by her sudden appearance. Qi’s mother nervously asked, “Qing’er, you just came back?”

“Mm, just got back,” Qi Qing replied, trying to sound casual, as if nothing had happened. “I ran up and down the building a few times. I’m a bit tired, so I’ll go sleep for a while.”

Once back in her bedroom, Qi Qing couldn’t hold back her tears any longer. She began to twitch uncontrollably, the hatred in her mind growing stronger and stronger, so intense that she wanted to destroy everything.

Around noon, an apartment resident who had planned to go out looking for food discovered several bodies of security guards near the stairwell.

Shocked, the person screamed loudly.

The others following behind turned pale, and a few bodies in familiar security guard uniforms lay not far away. “Those are the security guards.”

“There are fourteen bodies of security guards,” one resident started counting seriously.

Soon, someone on the other side of the building shouted, “There are security guard bodies here, too.”

After counting, they found a total of twenty-three male bodies. One of them was the woman from the 21st floor, the one with a sharp tongue and a stunning figure.

This meant that almost all of the bullies from the 21st floor had been wiped out.

“Who did this?” asked a man, trembling as he asked. He was excited that these demons had finally died, but he was even more worried that someone more terrifying than the security team might be lurking in the building.

Another man looked around at everyone. “There’s been one unusual event in this building these past two days.”

“The owner of the penthouse returned the day before yesterday,” a woman nearby immediately thought of Nan Muran, who looked like an angel.

“No way, she just seems like a beautiful little girl,” the man shook his head in disbelief.

“But who else could it be?” A counter-question made everyone fall silent.

“I saw Miss Nan that day.”

“She’s been in the apocalypse for over a month. You didn’t see how she looked. She’s fair and beautiful, clearly hasn’t suffered at all. How could she survive so well without some skills? I’m sure it was her. Plus, she had that fierce dog with her.” A younger man looked at her with admiration.

“Stop talking… She’s here.”

Nan Muran walked down the stairs with her tank, only to be greeted by the apartment residents. She couldn’t help but frown. What was going on? Were these people so idle now? Could they finally get enough to eat?

“Miss Nan, we saw those security guards…” The young admirer looked at her eagerly, pointing toward the security guards’ bodies soaked in rain outside.

Nan Muran understood their reaction. There was no need to hide anything now. “Mm, I killed them last night.”

“Wow, so fierce? You’re my idol!” The young admirer was ecstatic when he heard her speak so casually.

Except for him, the others around her felt a deep sense of fear rising from their hearts.
