Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 78: What Kind of Meat Is This?

“That’s their problem, what does it have to do with us?
If they don’t even have this level of vigilance, they might as well go back to the base early, so they don’t cause us trouble.” Si Ye said faintly.

The eagle didn’t say anything.

But he couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous for the special abilities team of the military, those ten or so people. He hoped they weren’t dumb enough to eat something like a two-legged sheep, because regret would come too late.

He wondered if the town chief had done this on purpose—if it wasn’t an apartment, it would be fine, but there wasn’t any furniture at all.

“Damn it, are they doing this on purpose?” The eagle was a bit angry.

Si Ye, like Jia Wu, was dissatisfied but said nothing.

Nan Muran, however, was quite pleased. She didn’t want to touch any of the things those people used.

Scanning the relatively clean empty room, she took out a large camping moisture-proof mat from her space and set it down. She also took out four individual inflatable mattresses and placed them at the corners of the room, followed by thicker bedding that she threw on top.

“Is there anything you want for dinner?” Nan Muran finally set up a picnic table in the middle of the mattresses.

The eagle couldn’t help but laugh at Nan Muran’s confident demeanor. In all the time he had known her, he had never seen her cook.

“Sister Nan, it’s enough if we’re not starving, don’t you think ordering food is a bit too much?”

“Go ahead, order something,” Nan Muran sat down.

“Oil-splash noodles, meat platter with a vegetable platter.” The eagle ordered the food he had been thinking about since the apocalypse.

Nan Muran thought for a moment; it seemed like she did have that in her space. She had bought a lot of it when they passed by.

As the steaming noodles appeared in front of him, the eagle was dumbfounded.

“I’ll have a super beef burger with black pepper pasta.” Jia Wu generously placed his order.

“Barbecue.” Si Ye thought his request was a bit too audacious, considering that before the apocalypse, not many people would have grilled skewers in winter, and even fewer would now.

But Nan Muran didn’t hesitate and set out a large spread of barbecue.

Beef, meat tendons, crispy bones, pork belly, chicken wings, kidneys, eggplant, oil cakes, and toast—well, that was expected. But there was also hot pot with tripe and a good number of vegetables.

The eagle and Si Ye were stunned seeing her take out prepared food from thin air.

“My space has time frozen, so I can preserve cooked food. Eat up.” Nan Muran didn’t want to explain the whole situation, but she didn’t want them to go hungry either.

As all of them were smart people, they didn’t press further.

The four of them gathered around the table, not caring who ordered what, and happily ate.

To prevent the food from cooling, Nan Muran thoughtfully took out a heating stove.

While they were enjoying their meal, the meat, vegetables, and noodles on the large table in the middle of the room began to be served one after another.

Han Yingting, sitting in the corner, watched the abundant food on the table, his brows furrowing deeper. He had already figured out the problem.

But the terrifying thought kept jumping in his mind, and he was reluctant to admit it.

His comrades from the same unit, subconsciously, looked at him, their eyes clearly asking.

Unfortunately, before they could speak, others had already started eating with gusto.

Except for one man, smaller in stature, everyone else from the military special abilities team had picked up their chopsticks and were eating happily.

“This red oil stir-fried meat is so good.” The girl with braids, whose hometown people loved spicy food, particularly enjoyed the largest plate in the middle, filled with red oil stir-fried meat coated in chili and cumin.

The others, hearing her praise, also tried a few bites.

A man wearing glasses, eating while curious, couldn’t help asking, “What kind of meat is this? I don’t think I’ve had it before.”

Everyone else was also curious, “What kind of meat is this, Town Chief?”

“It’s just wild game from the mountains, if you like it, that’s fine,” the town chief said with a smile, starting to serve drinks to everyone.

Han Yingting coldly looked at the town chief sitting opposite him, “What kind of meat is this, really?”

Though the town chief felt a little nervous, he still kept a smiling face, “It’s roe deer meat, a local specialty. This comrade probably hasn’t had it before.”

The man with glasses nodded but said nothing.

Han Yingting’s gaze grew colder, “This isn’t roe deer meat.”

At the same time, a few of the smarter military special abilities team members had sensed something was off from Han Yingting’s expression and hurriedly put down their chopsticks.

“Captain Han, what do you mean by that?” An older man from the military team asked with some displeasure in his tone.

Han Yingting stared at the town chief, asking the question that had been gnawing at him, “Didn’t any of the other women, men, or children in this town survive?”

“You’ve already asked about that before, haven’t you? I’ve answered it clearly,” the town chief said, looking confused.

But after seeing the firm determination in Han Yingting’s eyes, the town chief suddenly seemed to realize something. He then spoke in a regretful tone, “Aren’t you soldiers? You’re pretending, right? Want food? We’ll give it to you, just don’t kill us.”

His sudden change in attitude left everyone in the room confused, wondering what was going on.

But soon, upon hearing the town chief’s shout, a group of men from the yard quickly opened the door, bursting in with weapons and a murderous aura.

“Who dares to steal our things? We’ll fight you to the death!” The first man, a middle-aged man holding a gun, glared viciously at Han Yingting and his group.

The girl with braids, who was about to explain, suddenly felt dizzy and weak, unable to stand.

She collapsed back into her seat.

Soon, the others around her began to feel unwell as well.

“Quickly treat them,” Han Yingting ordered, looking at the closest healer.

The healer boy quickly placed his hands on the teammate with offensive abilities, restoring the man’s strength, and then placed his hands on another person’s arm.

“Third, stop them,” the town chief ordered after realizing the situation inside wasn’t right.

A younger man quickly dashed out of the group toward the healer boy.

Han Yingting shot him a cold glance, and a metal blade appeared out of nowhere, aimed at the young man’s life.

At the same time, the dark-skinned, burly man at the front punched the metal blade thrown by Han Yingting, causing it to fall to the ground. The burly man remained unharmed.

“Fourth, restrict him,” the town chief realized Han Yingting wasn’t easy to deal with and gave another order.

A man in his forties focused his mental energy, binding Han Yingting with some strange force.

Sensing the discomfort in his body, Han Yingting reacted quickly, and a dagger appeared in his hand, flying toward the middle-aged man.

The man, known as the second, once again blocked with his fist, but this time, there was a trace of blood on his knuckles.

The town chief glanced at the fallen military special abilities members in the room, “It looks like this can’t be resolved peacefully today.

Everyone, attack! Kill them.”

Outside, over thirty men began cooperating with the five special abilities team members from their side to attack. The military team had four people who were ready for combat after being treated.

The two sides soon plunged into battle.

The dozens of men who had rushed into the room immediately pulled away a few of the military special abilities members who were closest to the door. This included two girls from the team.
