Day 18 of the apocalypse. Temperature: 56°C!
Today was the first day of scheduled water and power restrictions.
As soon as Jiang Yuan woke up, her bedroom felt like a sauna.
Everyone knew the blackout was coming, but no one expected it this early—they hadn’t even had time to prepare.
The residents’ group chat for the complex was filled with cries of anguish, with everyone cursing the bizarre weather.
On forums and video platforms, similar chaos was playing out.
Footage showed firefighters rescuing collapsed pedestrians in the streets.
Many government workers, trying to repair transformers or ensure basic power supply, were seen collapsing from heat exhaustion.
Posts under those videos were full of likes and shares, with comments like:
“There’s still compassion in this world!”
“So proud to live in China!”
One pinned post in the Doomsday Forum had already received over a million likes, featured at the top of the homepage.
A lot of people had already bought generators, so today they could use their air conditioning openly.
Jiang Yuan’s family still had plenty of leftover food from their previous batch, and her mom finally got to take a break.
Some folks even posted photos of their meals in the group chat, inviting neighbors without generators to come over and enjoy the A/C.
Once one person started, others followed.
Suddenly, a wave of posts filled the feed:
“Cooking at home! Not adding burden to the country!”
Everyone acting like selfless heroes.
People in the complex really did start gathering for meals—before long, photos of these mini feasts were circulating.
Jiang Yuan chuckled to herself:
“Idiots.”
In an apocalypse, trust was dangerous.
She wasn’t about to invite wolves into her home.
This was already far better than her last life.
Back then, without a generator, she and Xiao Nuan had to soak in water all day just to stay cool.
At night, she’d fan the child while she slept—life was exhausting.
Suddenly, a video notification popped up.
Someone had gone outside and come back with extreme skin itching.
Scratching caused large red patches and even small red blisters to form.
In her previous life, she’d been too focused on battling Xia Chaoyang and Mengmeng to notice news like this.
She had no memory of it happening.
But as she clicked into related videos, her jaw dropped.
One clip showed a man whose entire body was covered in dense red blisters—
Just looking at it made her skin crawl.
Touching them caused them to ooze blood.
Even people without trypophobia would feel queasy.
She definitely didn’t want her family to catch that.
Scrolling further, she found that this had actually started a few days ago,
But had only circulated in small circles—
Now it was going viral.
What was this? Sunburn?
No.
It had to be a bacterial infection, and it was clearly related to the extreme heat.
Ding~
Her phone vibrated.
She opened it—another message from the residents’ group.
Unit 1301 had shared a similar video, warning everyone to stay alert.
The group chat instantly blew up.
Jiang Yuan wondered the same, but no one replied.
The message just kept getting bumped up the chat.
Then the building manager finally spoke up:
“Everyone please don’t panic.
Try to stay indoors these two days.
Disinfect your homes and take out trash promptly.
Don’t spread rumors—wait for the official notice.”
Jiang Yuan closed her phone and immediately called over her parents.
She gave them a quick summary, then the three of them began deep cleaning.
Every corner had to be covered.
After tidying, they sprayed disinfectant everywhere.
Trash was moved to the doorway for evening disposal.
They washed their hands every hour, then applied floral water (a kind of Chinese mosquito repellent and skin refresher).
Those red blisters were horrifying—she wasn’t going to let her family catch them.
She even went out into the hallway and sprayed disinfectant into every corner—
Including the entrance of Unit 2102.
If this truly was a bacterial or viral infection, then if he got infected, they’d be at risk too.
She understood that “when the lips are gone, the teeth feel the cold.”
This problem was definitely linked to the extreme weather.
Skin exposed to that kind of heat wouldn’t end well—
No amount of sunscreen could stop that.
She remembered seeing a medical book yesterday that had a chapter on skin diseases.
She made a mental note to study it later.
“Click—”
The door to Unit 2102 suddenly opened.
Jiang Yuan quickly stepped back.
The strong scent of disinfectant rushed out.
The man at the door visibly frowned at the smell.
“You need help?”
“No, thanks. Lately a lot of people have come down with skin infections—likely bacterial.
I’m disinfecting the hallway.
Also, from now on, let’s not leave trash out too long, okay?”
“Sure, no problem.
Thanks.
If you ever need anything, just knock.
I’m home during the day.”
During the day—
Which meant he wasn’t home at night.
This man had too many secrets.
Better to keep distance.
She wasn’t going to trust anyone anymore.
Day 20 of the apocalypse. Temperature: 60°C.
Water and power supply had now been cut down from 4 hours a day to just 2.
The residents’ group chat exploded again, with people tagging the building manager non-stop, trying to fight for more access.
But the manager had completely vanished—
Not a single message in reply.
Many elderly and children were suffering.
Throughout the day, the sound of ambulances in the complex never stopped.
Qin Yue didn’t dare open the curtains.
She and Xiao Nuan just sat on the floor near the dining table and tried to stay cool.
Then, the worst fear came true.
The red blisters were now officially named:
“Striped Red Vesicular Rash”,
Common in people with sensitive skin,
Caused by excessive sun exposure.
Potentially fatal.
A skin rash that could kill—
The jump from harmless bumps to death was too extreme.
Many people couldn’t handle the shock, especially since so many were already infected.
And not just those who had gone outside—
Even people staying at home weren’t immune.
Officials urged citizens to stay indoors,
Practice strict self-sanitization,
And wait for updates as experts rushed to develop a vaccine.
At the same time, since the virus transmission method was still unknown,
Many public venues began entering a state of “silent lockdown”.
More and more regions lost water and power.
After a full day of complaints and chaos,
Lushan Garden Complex finally lost power too.
There was no prior warning.
By 9pm, electricity still hadn’t returned.
People in the group chat were starting to panic.
Some called property management—no answer.
Others posted questions—no response.
After half an hour of heated debate, someone finally shared useful info.
0902 messaged:
“The property’s generator ran out of fuel.
They can’t leave the compound to resupply,
So there’s no way to restore power.”
Actually, Lushan Garden had already held out longer than most.
Other places had lost power long ago, especially older buildings, where things were even worse.
Once power is gone, water follows.
Thankfully, Jiang Yuan’s family had planned ahead.
They filled every container in the house,
And kept refilling as soon as one was emptied.
Not to mention—
They still had tons of bottled purified water.
