“Let’s go to my place first and grab some stuff,” said the guy from Apartment 0902.
Jiang Yuan and Song Yi exchanged a glance but didn’t say anything. They followed him to Apartment 0902.
“Oh, it’s you, big sister!”
The girl from the 11th floor clearly recognized Jiang Yuan.
“You traded with me downstairs at my stall earlier—remember?”
“Oh, it was you! I remember,” Jiang Yuan responded with a smile, showing just enough friendliness without saying too much more.
This girl had once been the original owner of a space (dimension). If she ever found out about Jiang Yuan’s secret, she might demand it back.
Even though that would be a selfish move, in the apocalypse, being selfish was practically a virtue.
The guy from 0902 brought out a backpack, his face beaming with a huge smile. He matched the cheerful personality he showed in the building’s group chat—a true sunny boy.
“Let me introduce myself. I’m Zhang Kaiyang, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I’m great at picking locks.”
Everyone laughed when he said that.
After all, their goal tonight was pretty clear. The mood lightened.
“I’m Ye Mianmian, a beauty livestreamer…”
No wonder she looked so polished and pretty—she was in beauty and makeup.
“Song Yi,” he said briefly.
That was it. Well, it fit his cold and aloof image.
“I’m Jiang Yuan. I used to work in the construction materials business. The four of us are now a small team.
Given the current situation, everyone’s seen how bad things are. No one knows when this extreme weather will pass.
From now on, we rise and fall together.”
She looked around at the other three as she spoke.
Zhang Kaiyang broke the silence first: “I get it. We have to stick together.”
“Exactly—unity is key,” said Ye Mianmian, extending her hand.
It might have been symbolic, but everyone reached out and stacked their hands.
All four of them were pumped up, and with high spirits, they set off.
By the time they got to the first floor, the water was already halfway up the walls—far more serious than Jiang Yuan had expected.
Some first-floor residents had relocated into the stairwell of the fifth floor.
Worried that the second and third floors might not hold out, they’d moved up for safety.
The four of them moved quietly, like they were on a secret mission.
Luckily, it was the middle of the night, and most people were asleep, making it easier to move undetected.
Song Yi lowered the inflatable kayak from a second-floor window.
Zhang Kaiyang jumped down first. Song Yi, still above, held the hands of the two girls, while Zhang caught them from below.
Each person was fairly tall, so getting down was manageable.
The kayak was a good size—roomy enough for the group and plenty of space for supplies.
Without delay, they paddled to the supermarket at the corner—this time, entering through the main entrance.
Because the platform at the front door only had water up to their knees.
Jiang Yuan noticed the water had risen significantly since yesterday. The rain was definitely getting worse.
Zhang Kaiyang got out first and began working on the supermarket’s rolling shutter gate, while Ye Mianmian lit the area with her phone flashlight.
Jiang Yuan and Song Yi folded and stored the kayak—it was a life-saving transport tool and couldn’t be left outside.
“It’s open!” Zhang Kaiyang said with some excitement.
Song Yi handed over a strong flashlight: “Be careful. Let me go in first and check for others.”
He led the way, entering first.
Zhang Kaiyang helped Jiang Yuan drag the kayak inside.
Ye Mianmian, holding her phone cautiously, lit every corner as she crept forward, checking for signs of danger.
Once the kayak was fully inside, they pulled the shutter back down. From the outside, nothing looked out of place.
“Looks like someone’s already been here. Most of the stuff is gone—check the shelves,” Jiang Yuan said.
She couldn’t help but smirk internally—good thing she scouted the place early, or she would’ve had to split the valuable items with others.
“Stay alert!” she ordered sharply, snapping everyone into focus.
They stayed on the first floor. Song Yi soon returned.
“Clear!” he announced.
Everyone relaxed a bit.
The circuit breaker had already been broken, so Song Yi placed a camping light on a glass display counter.
“Someone definitely came by. All the food’s gone. What’s left are mostly daily-use items.”
“What?” Zhang Kaiyang looked disappointed. “So we came for nothing?”
“Not really,” Jiang Yuan said. “These daily supplies are still useful. Everyone can take what they need.
If anyone finds food, we split it evenly. Sound good?”
“No problem,” she answered first—after all, she was here for the gold.
“I’m good with that too.”
“Same here.”
“Alright, let’s not waste time. Split up and move fast.”
“Wait,” Jiang Yuan said. “Song Yi, I remember there’s a storage room in this supermarket. Check it—there might still be food.”
“Got it.”
“Zhang Kaiyang, I need your help.”
In just half an hour, they were already getting along.
Zhang, being naturally cheerful and eager, immediately said, “Sister Yuan, whatever you need, just say it.”
Jiang Yuan climbed over into one of the jewelry counters, doing a mock inspection.
“Can you open this safe?”
“Let me try!”
Zhang Kaiyang perked up—it was a challenge. The higher the security level, the more interesting for him.
Song Yi had already gone, and Ye Mianmian, seeing the two of them busy, also wandered off to look for items herself.
After all, she didn’t come out just to watch.
Zhang Kaiyang worked fast—he opened the safe in just ten minutes.
The safe wasn’t on the ground, so nothing inside had been water-damaged.
The jewelry trays inside were intact.
“Tch, not even a challenge.”
“You’re amazing, bro,” Jiang Yuan praised.
Zhang Kaiyang beamed at the compliment.
“Sister Yuan, wait here. I’ll go open that one too for you!”
“Great. By the way, do you want any of this?”
Zhang Kaiyang thought for a moment. Since Jiang Yuan had found it first, he shook his head.
“Nah. It’s not much use to me—you keep it.”
She didn’t hold back then. Since the other two didn’t come asking, she saw no reason to tell them.
Jiang Yuan took out a wooden box from her pocket and started transferring all the gold pieces from the trays into it.
At first, she planned to use a plastic bag—but that would be a waste of these treasures.
“Sister Yuan, this one’s open too!”
“Nice!”
She finished collecting from the first counter. In addition to gold, there was quite a bit of white gold and K gold jewelry—who knew if those would be useful, but she took them anyway.
The next counter was larger—it belonged to a famous domestic jewelry brand, known for its silver.
The safe was much bigger too. When she opened it, her eyes lit up.
She brought out another box—there were more items here, including a few gold bars and many small gold beads.
The silver and platinum jewelry were packed separately.
It wasn’t a huge haul—but it certainly wasn’t small either.
