Chapter 90 – Back to the Community
“What? There are two more of them outside?”
Zhang Kaiyang panicked and immediately assumed a defensive stance.
“Those two were already taken care of by Yuan-jie and me. No need to be so nervous.”
Ye Mianmian had also calmed down. She coolly wiped the blood off the dagger in her hand, then handed it to Jiang Yuan.
“Yuan-jie, thank you.
There’s another one outside. I’ll go get it.”
“I’ll go with you.”
“No need!”
Ye Mianmian smiled at her, then turned to Zhang Kaiyang.
“You come with me!”
“Why me? I—I don’t dare… ah…”
Before Zhang Kaiyang could finish, Ye Mianmian dragged him out.
“By the way, how did you guys get here so fast?”
It seemed too soon for them to have arrived already.
“We didn’t go to the other place—we came straight here to find you two.”
Song Yi pursed his lips slightly. On the way over, the more he thought about it, the more something felt off.
Those were two girls—how could he have been so thoughtless? A team should stick together.
While they were carrying things earlier, even Jiang Xingzhi had scolded him several times, so the three of them had changed plans and come directly.
Fortunately, they had made it in time.
Not only was Jiang Yuan bold and decisive, but her actions were swift.
Even Ye Mianmian had grown. Back when they first teamed up, it was mostly because they lived together and shared common interests.
Over time, he’d realized Jiang Yuan was also a smart and capable person.
Zhang Kaiyang had technical skills, and Ye Mianmian had been included just to round things out—mainly so Jiang Yuan wouldn’t feel awkward as the only woman.
But if everyone could hold their own, the days ahead would be much easier.
And he could relax a bit—at least he wouldn’t feel so restrained.
“Good thing you came when you did—otherwise, it would’ve been a tough battle!”
Even if no one else mentioned it, Jiang Yuan couldn’t let it go unspoken—this was a life-saving debt.
Jiang Xingzhi was still shaken. He hadn’t left her side since arriving—he’d been truly terrified just now.
“Let’s start packing things up. There’s a lot of stuff here.”
She took out the large night lamp and set it on the ground—all their supplies were there.
Those three guys had eaten a lot earlier, leaving a big mess nearby. But there was no time to worry about that now—it was already past 2 a.m.
It would still take some time to reach the nearest source of water, and moving everything there wouldn’t be a small task.
Ye Mianmian and Zhang Kaiyang soon returned, the dagger in hand.
“Yuan-jie, here—it’s all cleaned up.”
“You keep it. I noticed you only have that racquet. This could come in handy when it matters.”
“Okay. Yuan-jie, you’re the best!”
Zhang Kaiyang, standing to the side, looked on like a pitiful little wife: “Yuan-jie, I want one too.”
“I only have this one left!”
It wasn’t that she was being stingy—if she kept handing them out like this, she’d empty her inventory in no time.
There were only a few of those daggers, and they had cost her a pretty penny.
“But I think this one suits you better.”
Jiang Yuan bent down and picked up a long knife from the ground—it had belonged to one of the attackers.
“Isn’t this the watermelon slicer?”
“Who cares what it is? In a pinch, it could save your life.”
With that, Ye Mianmian’s words removed all his hesitation. He hurriedly took it from her.
“Thanks, Yuan-jie!” he said sweetly.
“All right, let’s hurry and pack up.”
As Song Yi spoke, everyone got to work.
The supplies needed to be moved out, and the distance wasn’t short.
Jiang Xingzhi brought over a small cart from the entrance—it used to be Qin Yue’s grocery cart.
“Dad, you even brought this? Perfect timing!”
He had been carrying it with him, but when they saw the danger at the entrance, he’d tossed it aside. Only now did he remember.
The cart could fit three woven bags and was easy to pull.
The rest of them didn’t slack off either. Everything had already been sorted—it just needed to be loaded.
“Why didn’t you pack up the inflatable boat?”
Especially the one with the motor—if that got stolen, it’d be a major loss.
“Yuan-jie, we were just too worried about you and Mianmian!”
Well…
Given the situation, she let it go.
No one dared stop to rest. Judging by the weather, the rain and wind might ease up even more tomorrow.
They had to act fast—any delay could bring serious consequences.
By 3:10 a.m., the five of them were back in the inflatable boat.
They had moved everything from the gas station, including the bottled water—only some windshield fluid was left.
That wasn’t very useful. They brought a little back, but there was no need to take it all.
Jiang Yuan had handled the final sweep—there was still space in her inventory, so she hoarded some.
She also went into the supermarket and stored away the shelving units and two massage chairs.
This place was fairly close to Lushan Elegant Garden. By 4 a.m., they had arrived back at the community.
No one dared make a sound. They moved as carefully as possible.
Fortunately, everything went smoothly. Both inflatable boats were fully loaded.
The supplies filled the entire living room of Apartment 2002, spilling out into the hallway and the entryway.
Ye Mianmian pulled the curtains shut. These two trips had yielded a significant haul.
If they went out a third time, the extra supplies would have to go upstairs.
“Jiang Yuan, you and Ye Mianmian stay home and sort through all this.”
“Okay—otherwise we won’t have room for anything.”
She understood Song Yi was being considerate.
After that brutal battle at the service station, the two of them were already exhausted.
Staying behind to organize supplies was much easier than heading out again.
“Sweetheart, you stay. I’ll go with the others.”
Jiang Xingzhi spoke with firm resolve. Jiang Yuan had been about to argue, but now she didn’t know what to say.
“Okay, then all of you be careful. Prioritize your safety above all else.”
Ye Mianmian was worried too—after all, if they headed out again, it’d be dawn by the time they returned.
But if they didn’t go, more people would be out tomorrow. Those supplies might end up in someone else’s hands.
No matter how you looked at it, it would be a loss.
“This is the key to my place. Please help me move the stuff over later.”
Ah… this?
Jiang Yuan understood immediately—this wasn’t the time to be overly polite. Some of the supplies had to be relocated.
But the amount of trust shown in this gesture caught her off guard.
“All right. Don’t worry. We’ll be waiting for you to return.”
With that, the three men set off again.
Jiang Yuan looked down and turned on a night lamp. The apartment had blackout curtains drawn tight.
There was no need to worry about attracting attention.
Grandma Ye was nearby, her eyes bright as she looked at all the supplies.
She brought out hot water for everyone—boiled on the fire.
“Mianmian, stay here for a bit. I’ll go upstairs to check on my mom and daughter.”
“Go ahead, Yuan-jie—no rush.”
“Mm!”
Jiang Yuan didn’t dare delay. The others had all gone downstairs—her mom was probably worrying already.
There was a bag of sanitary pads beside her—found earlier at the service station.
