Chapter 100: Are You Close with Him?
The Beta doctor was dissatisfied. “If he doesn’t get scolded, how will this brat remember?”
Shen Yu replied, “The priority is still the treatment. If this happens again, we’ll both punish him.”
His expression remained indifferent, his delicate and cold features untouched by emotion. He was sharp like snow—pale and enigmatic. Just the way he uttered the word punish carried an invisible pressure.
It seemed Shen Yu still despised Alphas as always. If Ji Laili had caught his attention, then this brat was bound to suffer. Thinking this, the Beta doctor decided to stay out of it.
Still unaware of this conclusion, Ji Laili grinned brightly as he was finally let off the hook. The doctor sighed and waved him inside. “Go in, get ready to start.”
“Got it, Doc!”
Ji Laili’s eyes curved in a smile. He turned to Shen Yu, beaming. “It won’t take long.” Then he darted into the room.
“…Won’t take long?” The Beta doctor twitched. “Don’t Alphas usually want to last as long as possible?”
“By the way, Shen Yu, why are you here with him? Did Aiger send you to find the kid inside?”
The Beta doctor continued casually, “If so, you’ll have to wait a while. He made it sound easy, but just one round takes more than half an hour. Without pheromone assistance, that’s actually pretty impressive.”
He sighed with jealousy. “To be conservative, this time will probably take even longer.”
Shen Yu’s ears burned red. His gaze flickered toward the door Ji Laili had entered. Just imagining it sent his heart into turmoil. His long eyelashes trembled as he hastily looked away.
Then, suddenly, a file was shoved into his hands.
“Since you’re here, help out. Memorize this kid’s records. Once he’s done, update them. No problem, right?”
Shen Yu lowered his eyes. It was a detailed report of Ji Laili’s physical condition.
The Beta doctor waited for a response, but after a long pause, Shen Yu remained silent. Puzzled, the doctor glanced at him, only to see the pale nape of his neck.
Unaware of Shen Yu’s inner turmoil, the doctor didn’t see the flush blooming on his face or how his fingertips nervously fiddled with the corner of the paper.
An unfamiliar sensation surged up.
The notoriously aloof Shen Yu almost fled on the spot.
Forcing himself to endure the strange reaction, he took a deep breath, his forehead damp with cold sweat.
“What’s wrong?” The Beta doctor noticed something off.
Shen Yu pursed his lips, his chest rising and falling twice before he spoke. His voice was hoarse for a moment. “…Nothing.”
Before the doctor could comment on his odd tone, Shen Yu quickly adjusted, his voice returning to its usual calm.
In a controlled tone, he asked, “You want me to take notes?”
“Yeah.” The doctor nodded. “We’ve already lost some time. If you take notes, I can focus on analyzing his other stats, including yesterday’s pheromone response.”
“I mainly need to determine what types of pheromones this Alpha isn’t repulsed by.”
For some reason, as soon as the Beta doctor finished speaking, Shen Yu’s expression turned even colder. His grip on the file tightened.
The doctor suddenly worried that Shen Yu might tear the report apart—that was his hard work!
Feeling uneasy, the doctor recalled that Shen Yu wasn’t known for having a good temper. Alphas usually avoided him.
So… was he angry?
The doctor hesitated. “If you don’t want to—”
“I’ll do it.”
“…Huh?” The Beta doctor looked at him in surprise.
Shen Yu’s gaze was steady. “If it’s about Ji Laili, you can always come to me.”
“I’ll adjust my schedule and accompany him here for treatment until he gets better.”
“Whatever support you need, I’ll give it my all.”
The Beta doctor was stunned. He’d never realized Shen Yu was such a dedicated person.
“…Anything urgent that needs immediate attention?”
“Yeah.” The doctor replied sincerely, “I need that brat inside to hurry up—I want to get off work.”
Shen Yu: “……”
He instinctively looked at the timer.
Ji Laili had been inside for five minutes.
His gaze remained calm—until he actually saw the numbers on the timer.
Then, like a tidal wave, his emotions surged.
A strange reaction began to stir within him.
Just by thinking about it, he felt like he was developing an early susceptibility period.
Shen Yu barely managed to suppress it, quickly realizing that taking on this responsibility was a mistake.
To record the data, he had to keep staring at the timer.
The Beta doctor had even emphasized the importance of tracking time down to the second.
Looking down, he saw Ji Laili’s precise physical stats and a real-time performance report.
Looking up, he saw the ticking timer.
The stricter the rules, the more his rebellious brain tried to fill in the gaps.
Shen Yu suddenly caught the faint scent of his own pheromones—a cold iris fragrance seeping out.
For once, he was grateful the Beta doctor couldn’t pick up on it.
He forced himself to keep watching the timer. As the doctor predicted, the session dragged on.
At 46 minutes and 18 seconds, Ji Laili finally emerged.
His curly bangs were slightly damp with sweat, a few strands clinging to his brow. His face was tinged with an unusual flush.
He coughed lightly. “…Done.”
He didn’t look at Shen Yu.
Shen Yu, after a brief glance, also looked away.
Both turned to face different directions, their awkwardness palpable.
The Beta doctor blinked, feeling like something was off.
The Beta doctor glanced at the two of them but, in the end, his desire to finish work quickly won out.
After skimming over Shen Yu’s recorded data, he said, “Since the data is logged, let’s move on to the next step. I’ve extracted the pheromone factors you don’t reject, so let’s conduct another pheromone resistance training session.”
At the mere mention of pheromone resistance training, Ji Laili’s nose already felt uncomfortable.
“I refuse to believe we can’t get this done today. Oh, and I’ve already contacted an Omega—are you excited now, kid?”
Ji Laili: Absolutely not!!
He immediately turned to Shen Yu, his curly hair bouncing as he complained, “I’m not happy at all! This is slander!”
Hey! This brat!
The Beta doctor was just about to argue when Shen Yu cut in.
“Laili, I believe you. Go ahead with the treatment.”
The curly-haired Alpha instantly brightened. “Okay! Shen Yu, I’ll be out soon.”
Shen Yu nodded and handed him a spray bottle before watching him happily head inside. Then, he turned back—only to meet the Beta doctor’s deep, scrutinizing gaze.
“…Something’s off about you two.”
That was the Beta doctor’s final assessment.
As if dissatisfied with how plain his remark sounded, he seemed to want to add something else. But before he could, a voice suddenly chimed in.
“Super domestic. Even more O than me! And so good-looking, too!”
A peach-scented Omega suddenly appeared behind the Beta doctor, boldly stepping up in front of Shen Yu and eyeing him curiously.
The Beta doctor jumped. “When did you get here?”
The Omega ignored him, blinking at Shen Yu with undisguised curiosity.
Shen Yu glanced at him indifferently, unwilling to engage. But the Omega wasn’t afraid—he openly examined Shen Yu for a few more moments before exclaiming in surprise:
“So you’re the one he was in such a hurry to see?”
Shen Yu paused. This time, he actually cared about the words. His dark gaze landed on the Omega, its sharp chill making the other instinctively shrink back.
Then, the young man’s voice rang out, cool and composed.
“You and him… are you very close?”
The Omega blinked. “Not really.”
“Is that so?” Shen Yu said, his tone even. “Because I am very close to him. And as a stranger, it’d be best for you to observe proper Federal social etiquette—after all… you two aren’t that close.”
Omega: ???
What the hell did I say to make him think I was close with that Alpha inside?!
